"Bachelor" On Hunt For Human Remains

Former "Bachelor" bachelor Andy Baldwin just got back from the island of Palau in the South Pacific -- not on vacation, on a mission with the Navy. Now let's talk about why we the taxpayers are footing the bill on such BS.

Baldwin was among 20 military types who were on a search mission in the middle of the ocean. What, you ask, were they looking for? A B-24J bomber that went down during the war. Not Iraq. Not Vietnam. No, not Korea. We're talking WWII, as in more than 60 years ago.

Turns out, the military spends $52 million each year to find the remains of missing soldiers -- it's part of the POW/MIA program. That's all well and good depending on the circumstances. But a crash that is ancient history, at a time when the economy sucks and the Federal government is sucking the life out of everyone with taxes??

Baldwin, a Navy medic and diver, and crew found what could be human remains. We're told it's all being tested in the lab and it could take months, even years, to determine identities. At least he got a really good tan.

901. Dude, like the work of TMZ is sooo important they should like be experts at spotting waste.

902. If I made made my living with trivia, I'd be careful about pointing out waste.

903. TMZ - you dropped the ball on this and you must have known you might, thats why there is no author listed. No soldier should be left behind - ever - and if fate forces it to be, then EVERY effort must be made to bring them home with the honors that they deserve as long as its safe for all involved to do so. Perhaps if the "TMZ Staff" had a loved one in the military, they would feel diffently. I'd be on that boat looking for them too if I could. Bravo to all the searchers and may your journey end in the recovery of these lost sons and brothers and fathers.

904. Imagine a world where public schools were fully funded, and the military had to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.

Then imagine Al Queda taking over the government about 6 months later.

Then imagine the boys who daily fellate each other in the TMZ bathroom being hung
from the Rose Bowl goalposts by our new religious leaders.

905. Re: Post 911: Nancy, your post brought tears to my eyes. 64 years...and now they are coming home. Thank you for sharing this and I'm happy for your husband who has his Dad back. This is what it is all about.

906. At no time should the effort to find, recover and return home our fallen heros, from any war, be considered a waste of time or money. These men and women made the ultimate sacrifice so that whomever runs this website have the freedom to do so. To consider the effort to return our fallen to their families, no matter how long it takes, a ridiculous waste is just non-sense. If you think I'm wrong try posting trash like this in Iran.

907. It's my humble opinion you folks at TMZ are out of touch with what is moral and correct, at least on this particular topic. Bear in mind these fallen heroes fought to preserve our freedoms and the right to free speech you now exercise. Contrary to perhaps now common belief, freedom of the press is not bequeathed to us from reporters. Let's show some respect for those that put their limbs and lives on the line for this great republic. Granted, fifty eight million bucks is no chump change, but a drop in the bucket of our overall budget and far less unjustifiable than many earmark, pork barrel projects we unwittingly fund.
God bless America and her veterans.

908. I cannot believe what I am reading. I am not American but i am an ex serviceman who has served alongside US forces and have currently serving friends in the US, Brit and Australian Armies. This is a cheap and thoughtless headline grab. If it is good enough for a nation to send young men and women to foreign battlefields in defence of their nation then you as a nation owe them such a small return as this to recover their remains. In the scheme of the economy as a whole this is a small price to pay to bring solace to the families and relatives of war victims.
I am disgusted you could even raise this issue in the selfish, thoughtless and insular way that you have.
Get a real life and grow up. The real world has so much to offer.

909. TMZ, are you kidding me?
You're saying that if that was your spouse/child/parent/sibling died, you would call it a waste of time to locate their remains? When it happened is irrelevant. These are people who have died far from home and deserve to come home. This is part of what the nation's responsibility to the military and to their families entails. It is the government's, and by extension, the American people's responsibility to care for the people who serve(d) us. That doesn't end just because they die. And complaining about paying taxes to fund them? Is petty.
Why not complain about congressional retirement packages, big agriculture farm subsidies or fragmentation of administrative power? Of all the things you choose, you complain about paying to find the remains of a veteran?

All I can say to Andy Baldwin is that despite my deep distaste for reality shows, he has my deepest respect for doing this. And somehow, I think that the tan was the least of Baldwin's interests.
P.S. WWII? Not even remotely ancient history. My Grandma was alive then and there are still people with tattooed numbers on their forearms who could tell you how NOT ancient it is.

910. As this is the Comment Section, I will do my best to give my impressions. 1) The person who wrote this is most likely under 25 years old. Any one who is older would have more compassion and the mental maturity to show empathy to other peoples pain. 2) The Author is someone who goes with his emotions and does not really think things through. As a result he comes across as hate-filled and reactionary. Does TMZ really want someone like this as a regular contributor? Maybe they do. If so, maybe they are cutting themselves off from a wider audience for the short-term pleasure of spitting venom against those they do not like. 3) The overall tone of this "item" is that of a junior high school gossip groupie who has no life and never will have one.

My reccomendation for the Author of this piece is to get out more and try and learn some History. Not little isolated fact-oids that validate his emotions, but the full scope of true history. Take it all in, warts and all, whether you like it or not. You might then begin to see something beyond your emotions. Others call it the Real World.

You mean the top 1% that pays 35% of all income taxes but earns 17% of the income? Funny, when Clinton was prez 5% unemployment was AWESOME!! Navy brat, you are a LOSER. Anyone whose success depends on who is president is a LOSER, anyone who actually uses the word "peeps" (except when speaking of marshmallow Easter treats) is a LOSER!

912. I find it truly discusting that you people ay TMZ are able to trivialize such a story .Your language and flippant attitude shows your ignorance and just plain stupidity that I guess plays well with your shallow audiance. Shame on you ! Semper FI

913. How much would TMZ spend to get the remains of one of their so called reporters back??? That would be a waste of money if you ask me.

914. It just shows what this world has come to when there are free people with too much to eat and too many things free fuss about finding someone who gave their life so that we can have such people as you that think this is wrong. Thank God, you are still in the miniroity and hopefully getting fewer as we speak. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND WHAT IT REALLY STANDS FOR. OUR MILITARY IS STILL OUR BEST ASSET NEXT TO OUR LORD.!

915. My Dad made it home alive from WW2. His cousin did not. Many of his classmates did not. Those men gave more than tax dollars for their country. The least we can do is try to give their remains an honorable final resting place. Their families deserve closure. Perhaps after someone makes a overly graphic hit movie about what the Japanese did to the prisoners on Palau, TMZ might have a reality check and wake up. The x on a photo my Uncle sent home showed the spot where they burned the prisoners to death with flame throwers.....
