"Bachelor" On Hunt For Human Remains

Former "Bachelor" bachelor Andy Baldwin just got back from the island of Palau in the South Pacific -- not on vacation, on a mission with the Navy. Now let's talk about why we the taxpayers are footing the bill on such BS.

Baldwin was among 20 military types who were on a search mission in the middle of the ocean. What, you ask, were they looking for? A B-24J bomber that went down during the war. Not Iraq. Not Vietnam. No, not Korea. We're talking WWII, as in more than 60 years ago.

Turns out, the military spends $52 million each year to find the remains of missing soldiers -- it's part of the POW/MIA program. That's all well and good depending on the circumstances. But a crash that is ancient history, at a time when the economy sucks and the Federal government is sucking the life out of everyone with taxes??

Baldwin, a Navy medic and diver, and crew found what could be human remains. We're told it's all being tested in the lab and it could take months, even years, to determine identities. At least he got a really good tan.

933. TO TMZ STAFF - the whole reason you enjoy your freedom to write such blather is because we lost american soldiers in WWII after Japan declared war by attacking Pearl Harbor. Are you really that stupid? Oh, I have an idea. Let's take away your rights and torture you and your innocent family by BEHEADING you in front of your loved ones. You are a total idiot for making such comments. Take a walk through Arlington Cemetery outside DC or any military cemetery for that matter, maybe you will get one small idea of the amount of people that fought for your freedom. You make me sick!!!!

934. we are short of doctors at iraq and afghanistan. we are currently at war and every day more soldiers are killed.

since now you are partying and rubbing elbow with celebs, we will send many many more recovery missions 50-100 years later. and, none of them will try to publicize their job and duty like you do. this is a humble experience, not a underwater photo opportunity.

you are disgrace to military and any man with honor and dignity.

935. Spoken as someone who has a spouse that has already served one tour of Operation Iraqi Freedom, for your sorry self...TMZ.This is a great service the government provides.

We are the only military in the world that gives as much honor to our living as to our dead,by searching for their remains.

I can only pray that you will lose someone very close to you,and know the heartache and well earned money it goes to give your family peace.

POW...MIA...YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN

Even if TMZ feels you are not worth the money or the time.

937. My faith in people has just been restored!!!! I am extremely heartened by the reaction on this board in support of the military activity to find our dead/missing soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. Bringing them home to the country they gave their lives for is absolutely the right thing to do---to do otherwise would be a travesty. TMZ, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

938. I can not even believe you would stoop so low as to even make such comments about a group of people who probably keot you from being a uniformed member of the Communist party. These soldeirs died, albeit in WWII, but I bet what they did accomplish saved many lives and helped out.
I am a veteran and now I am ion the National Guard. If I could, I would be looking for wrecks to bring home those who fought and died for your pathetic ass, just so thier families could have peace of mind. I cannot believe you would use the press to put your point of view on something sacred, you wanna bitch about taxes, keep it off the military that continues to loose good men and women daily so you can talk smack about them.

Posted at 6:10PM on Mar 27th 2008 by A soldier who stands up for your pathetic views

939. -Sighs- you want to see a poor use to tax funds...look elsewhere, really. This is the same dribble we hear from the media on and on. Always searching for someone to blame about high prices of items etc etc. Bringing a soldier home despite any cost is military tradition and one of the greatest traditions the military has. No man left behind. This is something a lot of people never fully understand.
There is a scene in BlackHawk Down that, unless you were military or know well of the military most did not understand. The scene where one soldier picks up a hand and puts it in his pocket. That...is part of the tradition...even if it is just a portion of the other soldier, they will not be left behind.
52 mil spent to try and recover those whom willingly died to protect our freedom. In the meantime, perhaps this reporter should post a report on how much gas they wasted this week. Perhaps they should post reports on how much Congressional members waste per week How many millions of taxpayer dollars are going to be used to build new stadiums for the NY Giants and NY Jets? How many millions did a senator waste to build a bridge to an island of less than 50 people who didn't even want the bridge? These are the stories to follow...for they are truly wastes of money. Bringing home a sense of peace for all those family members, and to the members in the military whom remember their friends that died, is well worth the money spent.

940.
Finally - the U.S. is using my tax money on something I can be proud of. I hope and pray that they find the B-24 and bring those men home.

The real waste is Hollywood - period.

941. TMZ I take it that none of you have ever served in any military at any time. Too bad, then maybe you would better understand why I vote for these service men and women to continue searching for the remains of our fallen countrymen. I am the proud mother of a service man and woman. They take pride in what they do and so do I. Go sign up for a real job in the military and stop acting like a bunch of school age children.

942. It's not a waste. I witnessed a recovery back in the 70's. No expense or effort was was spared to recover an aviators body from the wreckage.
Just put yourself in the place of a family of a missing service member. It's money well spent.

SEMPER FI!

943. I think that you guys should stick to running down stars crashing and burning.
These people that are part of our “ancient history” have paid the ultimate sacrifice for you and all of the rest of us. From the first drops of blood at Concord, to Iraq, they have worked and sacrificed to keep us free. If you don’t think so, try to run TMZ in China, make some snotty little remark about the Chinese government, and see what happens.

944. glad they are still looking for fallen military people

Posted at 4:22PM on Apr 5th 2008 by fox

945. Do you think you're worth searching for in 60 years? I suppose you have a better idea on what to do with the plot of land currently being used for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
