"Bachelor" On Hunt For Human Remains

Former "Bachelor" bachelor Andy Baldwin just got back from the island of Palau in the South Pacific -- not on vacation, on a mission with the Navy. Now let's talk about why we the taxpayers are footing the bill on such BS.

Baldwin was among 20 military types who were on a search mission in the middle of the ocean. What, you ask, were they looking for? A B-24J bomber that went down during the war. Not Iraq. Not Vietnam. No, not Korea. We're talking WWII, as in more than 60 years ago.

Turns out, the military spends $52 million each year to find the remains of missing soldiers -- it's part of the POW/MIA program. That's all well and good depending on the circumstances. But a crash that is ancient history, at a time when the economy sucks and the Federal government is sucking the life out of everyone with taxes??

Baldwin, a Navy medic and diver, and crew found what could be human remains. We're told it's all being tested in the lab and it could take months, even years, to determine identities. At least he got a really good tan.

106. Harvey, stick to celebrities, not politics!

Ask families of MIA solders, not web surfing vidiots.

107. It's apparent that the silver-spoon-fed preppies at TMZ have no respect for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in order for them to post such harsh and vile remarks and hide behind the guise of "journalism".

TMZ is fun to read and I enjoy the articles at times, but this is not one of those times where I enjoy it.

108. How you can you say that finding these men is a waste of time or ridiculous. They fought to protect everyone just like the men and woman are doing now.Imagine what their loved ones have been going through not knowing what happened. They deserve the same respect as the soldiers who are fighting now.

109. God bless our service people. "The Bachelor" isn't gay is he? What he did is respectable and should be commended. Hell of a guy!

111. It is so refreshing to read so many patriotic comments in response to this irresponsible posting. $52mil is chump change when compared to overall military spending. This money is well spent on generations of heroes who have made it possible to live in this country and, as so many others have stated, deserve to be given a final resting place. My father's side of the family became Americans fighting for this country. One of my grandfathers fought in WWII. My father was a Naval officer for 23 years. Now I am looking at possibly spending the rest of my life with a military man. I couldn't possibly be more lucky than to have not lost a single one of the men in my life to war. But if I ever did, I'd want him to receive proper burial. That's not too much to ask for and the military honors that notion.

To the young, under-educated individuals who are force-fed liberal media opinions, just wait. Someday, when you enter the real world, you'll learn to form your own opinions. Sure, you may have some of the same opinions (that is your right), but hopefully you'll be able to at least present you opinions in a much more mature, respectful manner. I won't hold my breath, but I'll remain hopeful.

To this TMZ writer - you should be ashamed of yourself. Please, stick to what you do best. I look to this site for some mindless entertainment after the long days of stressful reality. I could go without the pile of disrespect I ran into this evening. Very disappointing.

112. @ "EFF the military"

There is honor in dying for the freedom and safety of loved ones. Any somewhat mature adult knows this, it's common sense. And any man or woman who gives his or her life for the protection of their country deserves to be laid to rest in this land that they loved so much.

And for you lib-bashers? Please try to keep in mind that not all liberals are die hard libs. I'm a liberal and if I had my say in it, I would gladly spend far more than a few measely millions to recover our fallen heroes.

On topic? If this Bachelor gentleman did help to find remains that could help even one family find closure, then he's my new favorite celebrity. Most of Hollywood could learn from him. Well...most of America's ignorant youth could learn from him too!

BTW? I'm 24 years old and I have this common sense. Why can't people like "EFF the military" get it?

113. Obviously whoever wrote this has never had a family member that was MIA. My grandfather's plane went down over the ocean in WWII and his remains were never found. My grandmother buried an empty coffin and spent the next 50 years of her life wondering what happened to her husband's body. These "human remains" are someone's loved family member. Those "human remains" fought for your freedom, have a little more respect for the soldier's who gave their lives for your future.

114. A ridiculous waste? Just because WWII was sixty years ago does not diminish the fact that these service people put their lives on the line so that a silly web site such as this one could be up and running in a FREE country. In these days when I am less than enchanted with our government, I am very impressed that they are committed to finding those fallen soldiers who sacrificed EVERYTHING so that we could be free. Whoever wrote this news item needs to grow up.

115. If this was your family member you wouldn't be so quick to judge. I have actually met the people who find and identify these remains from past wars and the families are very grateful for their work. Also keep in mind that as they search, dive and try and find the missing people, they are improving their training for future "live" missions.

116. Isn't it time the Americans stop sending their kids to get killed in the name of money and power in the first place? Yes, we all know you want to be free and that you believe your freedom comes from taking away other people's freedom, but in the end, the only one the US are freeing by fighting their never ending wars are those who make billions from it. Instead, use that money to provide food, health care and education to the millions who can't afford it in your own country! Time to grow up a bit, cause from what I hear, the United States of America are bound to become the new third world... So sad...

118. TMZ, wow, how ignorant. Recovering the remains of warriors who died so you can chase people through the streets in freedome is too big a price for you. Man, I can see how the young and ignorant staff could post this view, but this got by Harvey? Dirtbag.

119. I am a member of the armed services and I realize that TMZ is just trying to stir the pot and get some reactions but this article is rediculous. You didn't even realize what you started, did you? Did you even care how many people you insulted and how many families you just pissed off. I have a great uncle that was in WW II that never returned. Not a day goes by that my great aunt doesn't pray for him and shed a tear in his remembrance. I read a comment that said its old news and to move on. Its called closure people. These men and women fought for your right to bitch and defended this country. I have been doing so for 13 years now and I can not imagine my mom not knowing what happened to my remains or even having a body to bury. TMZ is an internet rag that cares about attention and doesn't care who is hurt. They are probably seeing all of these comments and smiling because they are getting reactions. Put down your IPOD and your TV guide and hop a ship to Iraq. Don't forget your Flac jacket and M-4 because unlike here in the safe USA, they want you dead. And if, heaven forbid, you get shot or taken hostage, remember this article and hope no one actually listened to you.
