Disney Ruining the World?

It's a Small WorldNo, not our world, the Small one. According to the LA Times, the family of the woman who helped create "It's a Small World" is begging Disney not to screw up the iconic ride with "idiotic" changes.

The ride has been closed since January to upgrade its boats - which some think was needed in order to accommodate the ever increasing weight of the general population. But now other changes are being tossed around.

Miceage.com is reporting that Disney Imagineers are considering adding Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Peter Pan, Nemo and other Disney characters to locations throughout the ride while replacing the Papua, New Guinea, rain forest scene with an American tribute.

In an open letter to Disney execs, the family writes, "The Disney characters of themselves are positive company icons, but they do NOT fit in with the original theme of the ride. They will do nothing except to marginalize the rightful stars of the ride 'The Children of the World.'"

Disney officials say some additions will be made to Small World but that no decision has been made on specific creative changes to the ride despite the speculation.

31. They should add one or two SouthPark characters to this ride, plus Paris Hilton and Michael Jackson (showing his penis to little kids).

34. I could care less what they do to it. All of the Disney parks are terribly expensive and overly crowded. A major rip off. The last time we went to Disneyland was in 1998 and we will never spend one dime on any Disney enterprise ever again. Walt Didney's dream was turned into a nightmare by Michael Eisner and other corporate thugs.

35. OH, MICKEY, SAY IT AIN'T SO! My son as a baby was scared of most rides except this one. When he was an infant - this was a must stop. It's a little kid's ride. Keep it as it is. Mickey and the gang are the very best. We love 'em totally. They already have lots of press, and don't need to be added into this show. Leave in the cultural exhibits of smaller countries - add to the cultural themes and icons -- ask for suggestions from the countries and cultural communities depicted. I think It's a Small World, as it is, helps create a global community in the hearts of all our littlest children - with positive, colorful and loveable images of other people, places and traditions. When we grow up, we all get to hatin' what we loved as tiny kids - rejecting it as we grow into cool people. I hate Barbie now- probably because I loved her when I was a mini me. The crowds never stop - so keep it as is.

Hey Disney character dudes - old as I am, we still love you!

39. Posting # 13, GrannyJ, before you post, please get your languages straight! There is no such thing as a "Mexican" language! It is called "Spanish", sister! It just shows your racism by saying that you thought that they were going to change the song to "Mexican"! Have a great rest of your life, abuelita(J)!

40. THEY USED TO HAVE SIGNS ON THE DISNEY RIDES SAYING "YOU HAVE TO BE THIS TALL, ETC" NOW THEY ARE INSTALLING NEW ONES THAT SAY "YOU CAN ONLY BE THIS WIDE" HOW SAD.

41. Kids don't really care about Disneyland anyway.

If you want to entertain them, you don't need to go to Disneyland, just show them a sockpuppet or give them a 1ยข balloon and you'll save big bucks! believe me!

42. So now all get to PAY more for modifications deemed necessary to accomodate fat-asses, I wish they would put a set of SCALES at the Airports, and all would pay their Airline fares by the amount of POUNDS they are...say $2 a pound, times every 1000 miles.

45. They do need to something about those boats. I was riding it with my daughter last month when two absolutely enormous women got in together. They nearly popped us into mid air, and I thought the boat was going to capsize. One of them even said, "We need to go on separate sides so we don't tip it." So for safety's sake they should do something.
As for the ride itself, it should not be changed!! It is a classic. There is plenty of mickey everywhere else in that park.
