"Lost" Diary -- Meet Kevin Johnson

LostHey, it's Daniel from TMZ here, back with the last "Lost" Diary before our Writer's Strike hiatus.

I took off Thursday and Friday from work so I can stay home for four days straight and watch nothing but college basketball. Now that "Lost" is on, I kind of don't know what to do. Who would be the four number one seeds in the "Lost" tournament? I go with Ben, Locke, Jack and Sayid -- I think they best represent what "Lost" is about. I'd have to put Widmore in my Final 4, though somehow he's becoming more and more of a player as things go on.

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. I am watching tonight's episode of "Lost" alone as Lauren is MIA and Ari wanted to wait and watch with her. Lauren's commitment to "Lost" is embarrassing these days and frankly I think it's time I take the show on the road once "Lost" comes back from hiatus. Anyone got room on their couch for me? I'll bring the chips! Let's roll ...

9:00 -- Previously on "Lost" is as a season 2 greatest hits package -- since that's the last time we saw Michael.

9:01 -- Locke is hosting a tupperware party of sorts as he brings everyone up-to-speed on what's been going on. Another scene where people tell other people things we already know.

9:02 -- "We kinda, like, knew that forever ago." -- Hurley to Miles when Miles says the freighter is there for Ben.

9:03 -- "My spy on the freighter is Michael." -- Ben. To quote Hurley, "We kinda, like, knew that forever ago."

9:04 -- "I'm here to die." -- Michael to Sayid when Sayid asks him why he is on the boat. Michael, could you be a little more specific?

9:09 -- Ben is giving Alex (who, along with Karl and Rousseau, looks weird in actual clothes) a map to the Temple. Perhaps, finally, we'll see what the rest of the Others have been up to.

9:10 -- Did anyone notice that, like, EVERYONE is listed as being a guest star tonight -- including LIBBY??? I don't even know what to make of this info right now.

9:11 -- We're flashing back now -- hopefully to explain how Michael ended up on the boat. Or maybe we're flashing forward, I don't know.

9:12 -- Did Michael just pin a suicide note to his jacket?

9:13 -- Yes, yes he did.

9:17 -- Didn't work though, as Michael wakes up in a hospital, looking a little worse for wear -- and dreaming of Libby.

9:18 -- The note pinned to Michael's chest was written to Walt. Something obviously happened to him, the question is what.

9:19 -- Apparently, Walt is just fine, living with Michael's mom. Not showing Walt is a clever way to cover up the fact that he he's, like, a foot taller than he should be.

9:21 -- "I want a gun. I want a gun with bullets." -- Michael. He wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to die. If at first you don't succeed by driving into a shipping container at high speed ...

9:22 -- Another ghost of island past -- it's Tom. Is he actually real? Can't be ... right?

9:27 -- Seems real enough. Oh right, this is months ago, so he's not dead yet. Totally forgot about that.

9:28 -- Tom tells Michael that the island won't let him kill himself. Did the island cause the car crash that kept Jack from jumping off the bridge at the end of last season? Hmmm ...

9:29 -- Others get to stay in penthouse hotel suites?

9:30 -- After Michael tries and fails to shoot himself in the head, a conveniently-timed newscast reveals the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815 has been found. What fantastic timing!

9:31 -- According to Tom, it wasn't Ben that staged the plane crash -- it was Widmore. Either way, the point of the fake plane crash is the same -- to keep people from finding the island.

9:32 -- Tom even has an entire file -- complete with cemetery photos where Widmore got the the 324 bodies. Details, details, details.

9:33 -- Tom is trying to guilt Michael into being Ben's "guy on the boat" -- and he's doing quite a good job of it. We're just past the halfway point of this episode and I have to say, while it's interesting to see how Michael got onto the freighter, it would have been more interesting to see how he got from the island back to NY.

9:38 -- Not only is Kevin Johnson on the boat, but so are Minkowski and Naomi. What are the odds Kevin and Naomi ended up getting together? Thought I picked up on some vibes there from Naomi.

9:40 -- Is Miles ever NOT creepy?

9:41 -- Man, Tom would make a great football coach -- his motivational speeches are awesome.

9:43 -- Lawnmower Man is giving Michael his theory that Oceanic Flight 815 is really out there somewhere. Michael is probably more inclined to believe him than most.

9:44 -- What's in the box? Fax machine? Laptop? Camera?

9:45 -- The conveniently-timed random gunfire gives Michael all the motivation he needs to open the box, where he finds ...

9:46 -- ... a bomb ...

9:47 -- ... and Libby's ghost ...

9:48 -- ... and a note that reads "NOT YET." Watching Michael try and kill himself all these times is like watching "Groundhog Day" with Bill Murray.

9:53 -- Michael has a call from the mainland -- and it's Walt.

9:54 -- But it's actually Ben, trying to explain how he's different from Widmore and how he didn't kill Libby and Ana Luca -- Michael did. Michael already feels bad enough -- does he have to rub it in?

9:55 -- Ben is giving Michael the game plan for taking down the freighter. Sounds easy enough (and apparently it was).

9:56 -- And now we're back to now ("Spaceballs" reference) and Sayid is outraged that Michael is working for Ben. That's like the future pot calling the kettle black, no?

9:57 -- Sayid is selling out Michael to the captain, and I'm imaging the captain will shoot him in the head and grant Michael his wish. This is the act that will begin Sayid's downward spiral that leads him to go work for Ben.

9:58 -- Rousseau, Alex and Karl are making their way to the Temple. Almost forgot about them.

9:59 -- R.I.P. Karl.

10:00 -- R.I.P. Rousseau.

10:01 -- "I'm Ben's daughter!!!" -- Alex

It's important not to think of this episode as a season finale or anything like that -- it was just intended to be the 8th episode out of 16. So I don't want to hold it to the same standard that I would a finale of some kind.

That said, this episode fell a little short for me. As I mentioned before, I feel like we were kind of robbed of half of the "What Happened to Michael?" story. It was interesting to see how far into depression he sunk over killing Ana Lucia and Libby. And they did give him a pretty good reason for working for Ben, when really I never thought they'd have a real good one. But I can't shake the feeling that we missed a good opportunity (but I understand that they pretty much can't show Walt ever again).

All in all, I'd say we got a solid, but not spectacular episode of "Lost." I give it a C+. While there are plenty of things I liked about the episode, if I had said to you going in, "Tonight we find out what happened to Michael since he left the island and how he ended up on the freighter" -- wouldn't you have expected an unbelievable episode? I know I did.

As for the ending, there are two possibilities: 1) Lawnmower Man took the helicopter back to the island with some people and now they have Alex (just like Ben didn't want) or 2) Ben knew that Richard and company would never let Rousseau and Karl in the Temple, and they killed them (in which case Ben sent them out there to be killed -- assuming they're really dead).

Well it looks like we're off for about a month. I absolutely, positively promise I will do a question answer column on Monday over at thelostdiary.com -- I am way too far behind. Click here to send me a question.

Til then ...

76. @ lizakay...Never mind, I'm a forgetful idiot...the penalty for not getting to watch all 3 previous seasons within the last few months. My brother corrected me as well...she was indeed preggers when she got to the island. My bad.

77. @ ughhhhh...sorry, meant to include you in my thanks for the correction. Still would like to know why she'd go on the expedition while pregnant...and if she got knocked up while out and about, who's the daddy?

@ VS...Daniel puts his thoughts out for everyone to see, and I think he's probably ok with people disagreeing or even attacking him...that comes with the territory. I happen to thoroughly enjoy his recap but I think his expectations are unreasonable...even if we have correctly guessed what is coming (i.e. Michael on the boat) the writers and producers have to make a show that is for the widest group of people and get everyone to the same point as best they can. Not every minute can be exciting and new...some have to be workmanlike and plodding at times to some of us.

As for the comment about your "JMO's", I agree it's annoying but you are right, people can choose to not read what is written. No need to attack me...I agree with your point.

78. Tony, I will not attack you. I will watch the IMO! I was attack a couple weeks ago just for stating a thought. Sometimes,
it makes you not want to comment. But, I always do. Thanks for putting it nicely! I was just trying to protect myself from
people attacking me. Have a Good Friday! I so enjoy Lost!

79. To HotSexyMama,

That was not Walt's grandma's house that Myles visited. It was another lady. First of all, the house that Myles visited was not in NYC (not sure exactly where it was, but it was CA I believe). Second, when Myles pulled up to the house, the radio was talking about the newly-found wreckage of flight 815. That would have put the time-frame of Myles' FB to the same time-frame that we saw last night for Michael (remember, Michael's TV showed 815 footage as he was about to shoot himself). We know that Walt is not dead (at least he wasn't in Michael's FB last night). Therefore, the ghost that Myles communicated with is not, repeat IS NOT, Walt. Any questions?

80. On my comment, I ment #62 not #63. And #74 actually is thinking along the same line I am about it not being Walt. As far as time frame goes I don't think it could be him........

81. Tony P. No problem... I have no clue why she would go either. She went with her lover Robert and others on the expedition, she ended up killing him because he was "sick" like the others on the expedition. It says she was 7 months pregnant when she got on the island. I get all my info from lostpedia.com. It has all you need to know and then some to keep you up to date on Lost. Check it out, it has answered a ton of my "what the heck?" questions...

82. @ VS...no prob, I know what has gone on...just wanted to be sure. And you are welcome...we're all in the same boat, no need for everyone to get as jumpy as they do...everyone just wants to talk Lost.

Laura answered what I was going to...the houses were absolutely not the same. The one Miles went to was in Inglewood CA (13:30 into "Confirmed Dead").

83. Just a reminder to everyone...it's far better to address the poster rather than the comment # because the numbers can change as people authorize their posts...not everyone does it right away, which results in the confusion that sometimes creeps in.

TMZ should add a reply feature that quotes the post since not everyone wants to take the time to paste in what was said that they are commenting about.

84. @ ughhhhh...I love Lostpedia, I have to limit myself or else I'd get nothing done. I will now have to go and blow off today...you are my excuse in case anyone yells at me. :)

85. @ TONY P---Haha, sounds great- You can be my excuse when my husband comes home and I have to explain to him that I didnt get housework done during naptime because I was too busy posting on Lost sites...AGAIN. Haha... I spend way to much time trying to figure out Lost!! But, also glad that I could help answer your questions!
---Thanks DANIEL for a great blog. Although I sometimes dont agree with you...YOU ALWAYS get our minds working!
Does he really even read this? Or am I like the AOL posters who write personal messages to the celebrities in stories about them, as if the celeb. really reads them...

86. Many people are commenting that it should have been a shock that Tom was gay --- remember way back when the others captured kate, sawyer, jack and kate was told to take a shower by Tom who, I think was handing her towels, etc. -- Kate asked Tom "Aren't you going to turn around?" or something along those lines...and Tom said, "KATE, YOU'RE NOT MY TYPE." Now, I don't know about you, but I am assuming that Kate is just about any heterosexual male's "type" -- so, his comment could only mean one thing....HE IS GAY. So....when we saw last night that tom was gay -- wasn't a big surprise...unless of course, you weren't paying attention 20 episodes before....which is how this show goes, isn't it?

87. @ ughhhhh...deal.

88. If the island wouldn't let you die then would we at some point see Charlie Coming back to show?

Posted at 2:46PM on Mar 21st 2008 by LostfanNeeely

89. a stereotype wouldn't exist if there wasn't a grain of truth to it. not the PC answer everyone wants to hear, but it's the truth. And LostinBoston I see you comment on here every week so this is not your first time. let's kiss like Tom and his boyfriend and make up

90. The island lets you die, from what we've seen so far. I'm thinking that it doesnt let people die that still have "work to do" on it. Which is probably why Jack yelled "we have to go back" to Kate. He was suicidal and if we reference what happened to him on the bridge, with what has happened to MIchael, I'm sure they still have work to do. Again, Locke was shot, healed quickly, and it is very obvious he plays a huge role in the island's agenda...whatever it may be. Also, Ben has had the crap kicked out of him so many times, and has had a gun to his a head a few times, I'm sure that he could've died many times by now, but it isnt not within the plan of the island. Also, I believe Charlie played his part, and did what he had to do for the island, so...I think that he was able to die. If they bring Charlie back that's just annoying. I like Charlie, but it is too crazy of a place to be led to believe all these people die when they really dont. OH- also, Sawyer got shot and was on the brink of death but of course, survvied. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. My biggest thing though, is that Rousseau plays a huge part in this show, I wonder if she's really dead....they showed her gettting shot, they didnt show her dead!.............Also, did anyone pick up a recent post of mine that in Micheals flashback Libby had straight dark hair and not curly blonde hair?? curious if anyone had any thoughts on that!
