Heath Ledger: Broker Than a Joker?

Could it be that one of the hottest actors in Hollywood barely had a pot to piss in when he died? If reports out of Australian papers are to be believed, Heath Ledger was only worth $145,000 at the time of his death.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the total value of Heath's estate is "$145,000, with furniture and fixtures worth $20,000, a Toyota Prius worth $25,000 and $100,000 in miscellaneous bank accounts." It also names Heath's father, mother and sisters as the only beneficiaries, but acknowledges his two-year-old daughter Matilda Rose as an interested party.

What this doesn't jibe with is family sources are telling TMZ that Matilda will be "well taken care of." So, where's the money?

Stay tuned ...

16. Whatever his worth, ALL of it should go into trust for Matilda.

18. While I'm sure Heath's estate is larger than this, having $100,000 in bank accounts is a little more than a pot to piss in...

Let's have some perspective.

19. Oh, Jeez, this story is so phony from a tabloid who's probably a cousin to TMZ. Stop with the crap; let him rest in peace. Michelle can take care of her daughter. I raised my son on less than $8000 a year and now he programs robots for medical research. STFU regarding this issue; let it rest with Heath.

22. The relatives of the family's rich dowager gathered for the reading of her will
after her long awaited death.

“Being of sound mind,” read the lawyer, “I spent every last cent before I died.”

Just kidding. It's somewhere, and someone knows where it is. Check the business manager or lawyer first.

23. TSK TSK TMZ! How is it possible readers know more about the facts than your editors (translation: time to get some new editors). This story came out a week or two ago and it was explained that his will was written years ago before he became a huge star, met MIchelle and had the baby, etc etc. He never updated his will (big mistake) and that is why it is the way it is. He's got a lot more cash and ownings out there and no doubt Matilda will be taken care of.

Considering how much money your site makes on people like me coming and reading it, Instead of trying to think of bad smart ass comments all the time that aren't even funny, I suggest you try a smidgen harder to be more factually accurate instead.

25. that's so silly, of course he has millions.. might be stashed in a Swiss bank account or something. But I agree this story is phoney.

26. If it is really anyone's business other than the family's business, then I would think that his father meant what he said about the child. Also, I would think that Michelle would take care of her own daughter?

28. In last weeks PEOPLE magazine (with Patrick Swayze on the cover) it has an article on this and it says that its likely that he has millions stashed in trust funds or banks in Australia... who knows.

29. These were the assets listed in his 2003 will and do not reflect his assets at the time of his death. A person includes all assets, foreign and otherwise, when they draw up a will. They don't draw up a will for each country in which they have assets, so it doesn't have anything to do with "any assets outside of New York were not included in this total," as mentioned in other comments. This was a will drawn up in Australia in 2003 and included the sum total of his assets around the world at that time.

TMZ, you got this one wrong. Or should I say, this is one of many that you've gotten wrong.
