Mannequin War!

Rootstein, a company that makes "artistic mannequins that are sculpted by artists," is taking an Illinois clothing company to court for misusing their mannies -- for the second time!Click here to see the documents!
Last year, Forever 21 purchased some of Rootstein's high-quality mannequins, then made unauthorized copies of them using lower grade material and used them in retail stores in Illinois.

On August 23, 2007, Rootstein and Forever 21 signed a Settlement Agreement to resolve the parties' dispute -- which stated Forever 21 could continue to use th disputed mannequin designs until Jan. 21, 2008, for a fee of $75,000. After that date, Forever 21 was required to destroy all mannequin copies and was not permitted to order any more from Rootstein.

Forever 21 has now allegedly continued to use the mannequins despite the settlement -- and Rootstein is fed up! Rootstein is now suing Forever 21 over a breach of contract and copyright infringement.

A call to Forever 21 seeking comment was not immediately returned.

16. It actually pisses me off that companies do this. Pottery Barn is a repeat offender of that kind of crime. They search small town Craft Fairs and Art Shows and buy a small order of pieces they love, reaserch the pieces and then recreate them -via 'made in china' and then sell them in their stores, with subtle changes, for big money. It's an arrogant slap in the face to real artists so when stories like this come out it's a nice public flog for indecent behavior...and another reason to boycott the companies who do it.

17. just wait until the mannequin union hears about this -- there will be strikes all over the nation! Absolutely no movies will be made in hollywood since technically with all the plastic surgery there, each actor/actress could be seen as a mannequin.

18. You guys are censoring manniquins? What pervert would get excited over plastic statues? Would you censor a nude Barbie Doll? Weird.

19. As a retail display photographer I see lot's of retail store windows and interiors and yes Forever 21 even stated that they made over a millions of profit last year and they can knock off what ever they like. As for one writers comments are mannequins clebs as yes they are you have Tyra Banks, Erin O'Connor, Twiggy, and the list goes on and there is a artist behind every mannequin out there except those who are so cheap to hire a model to become their own mannequin so they admit to stealing. You say it's ok so what who care but what if your children grow up and don't have a job to go to as more and more people in the US and Canada loses jobs to overseas companies that take our products and knock them off. How many of use download music for free... hey that's OK, how many of us download movies for free and that's ok too but if we don't put money back into our system who suffers. Put it this way and get out of your head top name designers as who can afford that stuff anyways but what if you made a product and put it on the market and then you grow and now you can hire people to make your product and you finally get off the ground then one day you stop selling your product as later you find out someone in China knock it off and selling it for %75 percent less then you. You get your lawyers and they can do a thing as it's in China and the company over there is making millions from your product and there isn't anything you can do about it. As for Forever 21 they now only knock off the mannequins as yes if you did your homework Rootstein Display mannequins are high up in the Entertainment industry as I go to their parties and how about the young designer that just came into the business has her clothing stolen by Forever 21 as the words by Forever 21 I can't say as they are basically they are just taking your hard earn dollar..
