Tejano Star Emilio Navaira Critical After Crash

Grammy-winning Tejano singer Emilio Navaira was critically injured after his band's bus crashed in Houston.

Navaira and his band Rio had performed at a Houston nightclub on Saturday night. Cops say around 5:00 AM Sunday the band's bus slammed into traffic barrels on Interstate 610 northbound in Bellaire, a posh area west of downtown Houston.

Navaira is currently in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital. His brother Raul was also injured in the wreck, along with several other members of the band.

The 45-year-old Navaira and Rio have released more than a dozen albums. "Acuerdate" won the 2003 Grammy for best Tejano album.

Emilio was born in the United States, making him an AMERICAN. He doesn't sing songs about beer drinking and beating women. He's a GRAMMY winning artist, he's college educated, he's a philantropist and a devoted father. What have you accomplished, RIH? Don't speak about things you know nothing about. I'm hispanic and I definitely don't think I know how to sing. He didn't win a Grammy for thinking he "knows" how to sing. Duh!!! I agree, these dumb asses need to get educated before sharing their "knowledge" with the rest of us. I didn't know hispanics are keeping them out of the classrooms as well. As for Emilio, my prayers are with him just for the fact that he is a human being, just as my prayers would go out to anyone (black, white, yellow, or whatever other race there may be) I saw involved in an accident. A time like this is not the time to be generalizing and criticizing or pointing fingers as to who is messing up this country. There's a little bit of everything in every race and nationality.
