"Idol's" David Hernandez Wants to Be "Rent" Boy

TMZ has learned that "AI" wannabeen David Hernandez has come to the Big Apple to audition for the cast of Broadway's "Rent." Hey -- beats strippin' for a livin'!

We caught up with Hernandez on his way into town, and when we pressed him about his tryout, all he would say was that he was auditioning for a show called "Lease." ("Lease" ... "Rent" ... Is he really making a "Team America: World Police" ref? You decide.)

Arizona Dave also seemed a little bewildered by the big city, prodding random strangers for help finding a car and asking a Hasidic Jew whether he was a "Pilgrim."

We contacted "Rent" for comment, but we haven't heard back yet. The Broadway production ends its 12-year run on June 1.

33. It's a good start, he would do well on Broadway, however, "Rent," is expected to take its last curtain call, I believe, June 1st, 2008. Of course, there are always encore productions, and the show may not close if there is a big demand from audiences to see it. Anything is possible. Wish David Hernandez much good luck in finding his direction and "Break A Leg," for future success in both the acting and music industries.

34. Hes a good singer hes attractive and he genuine, he will make it in the media world somewhere with a lot of talent. If hes gay so be it so am I Don't condem someone for showing their stuff. If you got it flont it. There is a bit of gay in every man sometime/somewhere in a mans life. Dont lie about it just be honest with yourself. I am the best of a good man and so was Jesus////

36. He should star in his own Off Broadway show based on expanding the market for the "all new" Chippendale dancers. Their new look; having an average looking & height, thin build, nude dancing, gay/bisexual lead singer who can twirl his tool to the beat while the men do their movements in the background like the Pips did for Gladys Knight!

40. I agree with Dr. Lisa on page two that he would make a good Angel.
I also agree with Lisa on the fact that you boneheads who think RENT is closing need to know that it is only on break, and he must be trying out for next year when it re-opens.
We know, because we got tickets ahead of time.

43. Sweetie, congratulations for auditioning. I do hope you make it. And for my own lovely fantasy I hope audition for the part of Angel Dumott Schunard. But I do have to say, you would make a much better Mimi Marquez then previous "Idol" Tamyra Gray.
