The paparazzi got into it with the LAPD last night after police cuffed a photog for stepping off the sidewalk -- a death penalty offense in 34 states.
Photogs started screaming at the cops, yelling things like "What about DUIs?" and "We're arresting people for jaywalking now?" The pap was not booked.
BTdub -- the whole thing went down across the street from Eva Longoria's new restaurant, Beso.

25. I watched the video again and I can't help but laugh at the pap shouting, "You're arresting jay-walkers now?!" That would be YES. Jay-walking (or leaving the sidewalk and entering the street, including the gutter, when NOT in a marked pedestrian crosswalk or for the purpose of entering / exiting your vehicle) IS BREAKING THE LAW!! These guys admit to breaking the law and STILL think they deserve privileges that other "citizens" don't get.
Also, NOT following a direct command / order from a police officer is against the law as well.
A camera is NOT a permit to harass police or citizens, NOT a permit to break the law, NOT a permit to demand "rights".

27. Maybe if he wasn't stepping off the sidewalk and directly in front of a car that is about to move forward, nothing would have happened.
Since they show they have a bad habit of stepping in front of cars that want to egress from their parking spot, it seems like a good decision by the police, except that they should have ticketed him.

28. The chief of police said they didn't need any new laws to control the paparazzi. That there were already laws that could be used to prevent the problems that were occurring.
I guess this is what he means. You can't prevent people from driving away if you are not standing in front of them on the street, assuming they are parked on the street.

29. I have no sympathy for the pap-smears. I know they're doing their job, and I understand there is a need for them when it comes to entertainment news. But there is a right and a wrong way to go about it, and lately they've crossed the line. Even TMZ.
However - They've created the Britneys of hollywood, feeding into their addiction of being self-important and bringing them to their downfalls then reveling in it. They stalk, harrass, belittle, and at times cause harm to get the shot they need. They do anything to cause a star to have a nervous breakdown so they can catch pictures of it. They falsely imprision celebrities (Surrounding their cars like brain crazed Zombies out of a horror movie) so they can't leave... Even more disgusting they're starting to go after underage children of stars. Stars asked to be in the public eye, their kids didn't. Being born into a celebrity family shouldn't make them fair game. Its one thing when a photo op is ageed to, its another to sneak pics of kids going to school, on a play date, eating lunch... That's almost pedophile like, grow men stalking and taking pictures of Children without permission to post on the internet and god knows where else. That's just a line you don't cross.
Like I said, Paps need to make a living, and they are needed to balance the circle of life in Hollywood, from Celebs to Paps to us lowly magazine readers-
however, they've become a menace to not only the celebrities, but also to innocent passer bys who get hurt in the frey. They seriously need to be put back in their place for their own safety (So they stop getting run over) , the safety of the stars they pursue, and of innocent people who just want to get where they're going. I, for one, don't want to get run down due to a celeb like Britney. I could care less that she's driving into yet another starbucks. Let me by so I can get on with my freakin life already! I don't think Paps need to be banned, just harnessed in.
The main point would be - they're breaking all sorts of laws, and getting away with it for too long. Its time they start having to pay the price for being a menace.
