The paparazzi got into it with the LAPD last night after police cuffed a photog for stepping off the sidewalk -- a death penalty offense in 34 states.
Photogs started screaming at the cops, yelling things like "What about DUIs?" and "We're arresting people for jaywalking now?" The pap was not booked.
BTdub -- the whole thing went down across the street from Eva Longoria's new restaurant, Beso.

31. so uhh..what exactly did the paps do to get arrested? Can anyone answer this simple question? I didn't see them do anything wrong so from my point of view, the cops are WAY out of line.

32. to LULU. The pap had stepped into the street blocking a car. It's at the very beginning of one of the videos. Of course TMZ edited most of that part out. They only show it from when the cop approached the pap. You can see the cop pointing to the sidewalk behind the pap showing where he stepped off the curb and into handcuffs.
It may seem petty, but if you look at the overall picture the paps were being obnoxious.

34. I just had to respond to the comment from the photogs that said "We're arresting people for jaywalking now?" I'm not sure about L.A., but I can tell you that the answer is "YES" in Orange County. I was sentenced to 45 days in jail back in 1997 for jaywalking & I was even in a crosswalk!!! I lived in Fullerton at the time & was at the intersection of Harbor & Orangethorpe. I had walked several miles already & the light was green for the direction I was goin, but the little man had started to flash red. I broke into a run so I wouldn't have to wait. A cop happened to be making a right turn & nearly hit me. He pulled over & told me that I was jaywalking & that you can't enter a crosswalk once the symbol starts flashing. They searched my purse, but I did tell them that they would find 1/8 oz. of weed inside. They asked me if I wanted them to "keep it & flush it" or cite me for that too. Obviously I told them to keep it, but I never did hear a toilet flush & was never charged with possession - just jaywalking INSIDE A CROSSWALK!!!

35. The PAPS are hurting business in the areas the celebs frequent. The business owners and the celebs are joining together to make these RUDE law breaking paps clean up their act.

36. The cops just have a job to do. The police have no choice to enforce this riduculous stuff, because of the mob scene the paps created when Britney Spears left the hospital. Ask any cop and they will tell you they would much rather be arresting drug dealers or DUI's instead of dealing with paps jaywalking, standing in the street, etc. More often that not it's the citizens that complain about the paps blocking sidewalks, driveways, etc. Trust me, the cops are'nt waiting around looking to harass paps. They have far more important things to do and would much rather be doing them.
BTW, as a side note, this guy was talking all kinds of smack, and receiving reassurance from his fellow paps, while the cameras were rolling. I betcha he was crying like a little girl with a skinned knee when he was actually transported to the station!!
