Allred Goes Tit-for-Tat with the TSA

3/27/2008 6:29 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Yeah, it was as ridiculous as it sounds.

This was ridiculous, and inappropriate. Remember she already passed through the walk through detector. The agents should be reprimanded and there should be some restitution for stupidity by the TSA.

I can't believe the people here who think it's appropriate that she was asked to take them out. That's an incredibly stupid blanket policy, since many piercings can't be removed without special tools. A pair of pliers worked for her little nipple rings, but many people wear piercings that can only be removed with a captive bead spreader tool.

It wasn't the case here, but people can have piercings that don't heal completely for several months. If they have to take them off in that time, the pierced body parts can start bleeding. That's something I want next to me on an airplane...NOT! Also, in just the short duration of the flight, an unhealed pierce can start to close up to the point where the jewelry cannot be reinserted. That means that they either have to abandon their piercing...which they just paid for!...or pay to have it re-pierced.

And all of that might be justifiable if there was any legitimate security reason to make someone remove their pierce. There is NOT. Here's the way the scenario should have played out...worst case:

Woman sets off detector with her nipple rings. Woman gets wanded, rings set off the wand. Woman admits she has nipple rings. Screener is skeptical that she's still packing something, so sends her off for a pat-down search. Female screener takes the woman to a private room, feels up woman's boobs, can't tell for sure what's in there since the rings are so small. Female screener asks woman to take top off. Woman complies, female screener visually observes grade A American breasts, nipple rings, and no bazooka. Female screener wands rest of woman, gets no hits. Woman puts her clothes back on, gets on plane, end of story.

Of course, that would assume that the TSA screeners have the brains God gave a goose, and that they have either a clue or the minimum respect for human decency that you would expect from a kindergarten student. Apparently, the screeners in Lubbock were lacking.

My two cents

They don't make anyone remove their earrings or rings. Why should a nipple ring be removed? I agree...out of line. Good for her to sue and I hope Gloria Allred makes them pay. I don't always agree with some of Glorias lawsuits, but I agree with this one!!!

My Husband has a nipple ring and not once while we were on vacation did he have to remove it for any reason and we were at 2 of the most popular airports in the world.

Come on now! She could have refused to board the flight if she didn't want a further search. The right to fly is not in the Constituiton. If it was we would have to pass through Osama after a pat down search. Let the good people at TSA do there job and just because you get offended, tough! There are trains and busses shoud you wish.to ride that way.

The TSA is the government meaning the USA and I dont want my tax dollars going to this type of individual. You can not sue the US Gov''t as you can a private corporation.

What is her damages? If she had suffered some damages such as having to take a later flight with some add'l hotel problems then I can see a small voucher to cover her delay expense but embarrassement is not a recoverable damage or is it a ticket to wealth at the taxpayers expense.

THe TSA has done a wonderful job and their scorecard shows it. Seven years of passenger safety is worth the small inconvenience. I have a medical ICD and yes it causes delays but I get on the plane OK.

Check your law books but suits against the US government are limited in scope as they should be.

Also, why would anyone want body piercings other than earings?????

Another stupid story by TMZ's uneducated chimpanzees

Gloria Allred...ah, yes. This nasty bitch is as much of a media WHORE as Johnnie Cochran ever was; she's the legal equivalent of pearASS hilton. Doesn't care about the issue, as long as she gets her ugly face in the papers & on TV. Disgusting...

So if you have an artificial leg you would have to remove it, or a steel plate in your head?

Unhappy pilot

Typical TSA zero-class behavior. If they get away with this it's going to be "body cavity searches". You know which cavity. You know what will be used to search. And jail for any woman who refuses... or reports.

It's time to disband the TSA. No organization composed of minimum-wage high-school dropouts should have the kind of Gestapo-like powers these "people" have. Their security screenings are useless, they drain money needed for REAL security, they make a mockery of Constitutionally-protected rights, they add huge delays to the act of flying, and they abuse American citizens with a complete lack of accountability. They steal (over 5,000 incidents of theft from luggage which the TSA has already admitted and paid compensation for... and that's just the ones that they confessed to). For the cost of the TSA, you could put a PROPERLY trained Federal Air Marshall on EVERY flight, train and arm the flight deck crew, and increase the budget of the organizations that actually accomplish anti-terrorist work: the CIA, the NSA, the FBI and the US military.

Get rid of these groping good ol' boys before some passenger finally has the guts to say No and shove their pinheads into their XRay machines and cook them like a TV dinner.

Piercing don’t register on/in the metal detector unless you have actual metal!!!!!!!! 99.999999% of piercing jewelry is made out of surgical steel and doesn’t register on any metal detector. I have 4 piercing including tongue, le brae and my ears and never and I mean NEVER registered. I can guarantee you that those nipple rings didn’t either unless the woman had fake jewelry (which causes massive infections when inserted into live tissue) but I am pretty sure she had her jewelry wasn’t fake. Some older bras have metal under wire (cheap kind) and I bet that is what registered and not her nipples. People please be more informed before you accuse “the Nipples of Mass Destruction”

Not my problem

The moral of the story, don't get nipple rings. If the skin tends to grow over them and enough scar tissue builds up that it is painful to reinsert them, then it's probably wise to leave them out. If you choose to get them anyway then you have to deal with the consequences, which is what this lady had to do. It's common sense and I hope this attorney gets paid big time by her to lose this case and she is held responsible for the court costs so the taxpayers in Lubbock don't have to. Just another example of how Tort reform is highly needed. This is frivilous at best. We live in a different country than we did 10 years ago, you have to be willing to comply with airport security when it comes to anything that sets off those scanners. It's for our own safety and I applaud the agents for erring on the side of caution rather than just letter her through. If a terrorist decides to tape a blade to his/her nipple and tell the agents that it's a nipple ring and they let them through we have another hijacked plane running into another public building. Sorry lady, no sympathy from me.

So, were the TSA agents fired from their job for abusing their power? Probably not, but they should have been. It's an example of "the letter of the law vs. the spirit of the law". The letter of the law says anything metallic can't go through. The spirit of the law is that the TSA agents involved should have used their idiotic brains that told them this girls nipple ring wasn't a bomb or anything that could be used in a hostile takeover of an airplane. Everyone knows that those guys were just getting off on making that girl remove it. We all know it, and yet the agents are allowed to get away with it. They really should lose their jobs over this.

Actually I've been training dogs to sniff out vaginal rings at airports......for when I can't do it myself, that is.
