I am so impressed with how kind most of the commentors have been regarding Chris Burke. Just shows how much more accepting society is of people with mental challenges. I think Chris Burke helped open many people's eyes as to the talents and gifts of individuals with mental challenges. My brother has Down's Syndrome, and I worked for Special Olympics for many years. The athletes I worked with were so amazing-honest, hard working, positive, and so accepting of others. It's wonderful to see that society is shifting towards being more accepting of these amazing people.

So, thanks, TMZers! I came onto t he comments section, dreading the mean "retard" comments I would find, and, with the exception of a few, they were overwhelmingly accepting and positive. You made my weekend! :)

Dave has done more with his life than 99.9 % of neurotypicals will ever do with theirs. Why is it that those who deem themselves "intelligent" often feel entitled to diminish the value of those who struggle with developmental differences? Are intelligence and compassion inversely related? Sometimes I think so after reading boards like these. :(

Number 32's comment about his head being big so he should be smarter....all I have to say is that is jacked up. He is probably smarter than the average joe actually. And as for the "retart" comment just remember what goes around comes around and you will get yours honey for saying that. As a family member of children with disabilities it's a damn shame people don't educate themselves more before calling others names. He's truly a star!

I agree that it's sad that someone would make fun of a person with DS. This man cannot control his disorder. He was born this way!!! There, but for the grace of God, go I.

Odd isn't it ?

If only they could isolate the gene that those with DOWNS SYNDROME have that 'retards' the aging process, so that one could stay young looking but without the part that 'retards' the rest of them..................

He is wonderful.

All of you haters out there, wise up. Grow up. If you have ever in your life known anyone with Down's Syndrome, you would not be saying awful things. They are the most loving, wonderful, sweet people you could ever know.

You should be ashamed.

He needs to get to a dentist STAT! His gums are in horrible shape and periodontal disease can kill him, especially since a major component of Downs, is heart problem. Bad teeth and gums contribute greatly to heart disease, and death, and he needs to get that cleared up right away.

I'm not hating on the guy, just horrified that his gums are that bad, when he likely has heart problems, and knowing that the combination can kill him. This is more of a shout out to anyone who has puffy gums like that, to get to a dentist and get it cleared up.

Otherwise, he looks great. He is a great example to all human beings on how to live and fulfilling and sucessful life. Many more able minded folks can get a lot further in life, if they worked beyond their perceived limitations, as Chris has done.
