Cornell to Cook: "Billie Jean" Is Not Yours, Son!

Chris Cornell wants everyone to know that he really liked David Cook's rendition of "Billie Jean" on "Idol" last week -- because he did it first!

In an interview on Billboard.com, Cornell admits Cook "sang it great," but adds, "it was literally a note-for-note take on what I came up with." Step off, wannabe!

While Ryan Seacrest did give Cornell credit for the innovative cover on the show, Cook's imitation has Chris singing all the way to the bank -- Cornell's "Billie Jean" has jumped to #12 on iTunes. Sing copycats, sing!

I don't really know Chris Cornell but I think he is just jealous that David Cook sung it way better than he did, just like Doxology was when David took on "Eleanor Ridby' Now matter what he sings he just sound better. So sorry but David got an unique voice that drives his fans crazy.Chris you should be proud that someone took your idea and made it their own. What more do you want?

This is ridiculous. Ryan announced BEFORE David began singing that Cornell did the song. Ryan never made mention of Michael Jackson at all. And... David said after the show on various sites and in interviews that it was a Cornell version. Get over yourself pal! No one knew who you were until David sang this version of the song. Guess everyone needs their 15 minutes.....

David Cook Rocks!:  1413 days ago

Um, hello...the song was INTRODUCED by Ryan Seacrest as Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean. These folks need to get over themselves. All the Idol songs are someone's song. And in the two cases involving the versions David Cook sang, the songs don't "belong" to the performers who complained in the first place! David Cook is awesome. Folks need to deal with it.

Tink, are you a retard. Chris Cornell, 15 min of fame due to David Cook? Chris Cornell has sold millions of records with Sound Garden, Audio Slave, and him solo. Last year he did the title track for the new James Bond movie. So by you comparing the two it shows you are an idiot when it comes to music.

FYI,,,,Both Cook and Ryan Seacrest made note of that on last Wed's elimination show.

I think Chris Cornell is talking about it because the judges did not hear what Ryan Seacrest said in the beginning. The judges told David Cook on air that he was very original when he sang that version of Billie Jean. David wasn't being original. He was singing someone else's cover.

Just die Joe!!:  1413 days ago

All David Cook can do is copy other people. At least the other AI contestants put effort into their songs by trying to come up with a different rendition. This poser is a fake if I ever saw one! Ax his azz next!!!!!!

wtf????? why is tmz giving either of these jokers any press for simply COVERING A SONG THEY DID NOT WRITE! WTF is up with hollywoods lack of creativity???? eveything now is just covers of songs from 15 years ago, or crappy movie remakes of movies from 15 years ago. WAKE THE F UP! STOP GIVING THESE PEOPLE RESPECT FOR STEALING OTHER PEOPLE WORK AND TALENTS! AMERICAN IDOL IS CRAP, STOP WATCHING IT ! Paula is a has been, Simon is an ego maniac, and well the other guy, he just is happy to have a job.

The judges were the ones's who said that Cook was original even though Ryan had already said it was someone else's version. That said, I had never heard it before and I totally downloeaded it from itunes.

You cannot be serious. If you are...

...my god...you have to be one of the stupidest people on the planet. Get some taste, turn on a radio...do something to get a clue. You are obviously not a music fan.

And on another side rant, if Chris Cornell wants to keep any shred of hard rock and metal crediability, he would stay the eff away from ANYTHING american idol related, cause last time i checked, that is about as far from metal you can get, except for maybe the house band on the rachel ray show???
