Cornell to Cook: "Billie Jean" Is Not Yours, Son!

Chris Cornell wants everyone to know that he really liked David Cook's rendition of "Billie Jean" on "Idol" last week -- because he did it first!

In an interview on Billboard.com, Cornell admits Cook "sang it great," but adds, "it was literally a note-for-note take on what I came up with." Step off, wannabe!

While Ryan Seacrest did give Cornell credit for the innovative cover on the show, Cook's imitation has Chris singing all the way to the bank -- Cornell's "Billie Jean" has jumped to #12 on iTunes. Sing copycats, sing!

136. I've seen Chris Cornell preform this song live, and although I am a big Chris Cornell fan...David Cook sang it better. Much better. He's just jealous.

137. Regardless if it was Cornell's version, Cook rocked it out!!!! That note he hit, then took higher shows his true talent. That cannot be denied!

138. Cornell is just jealous that he got his assed kicked by David on the song. The funny part of that is is that it was even his own version.

139. I cant believe this is coming up again. Ryan Seacrest clearly gave Chris Cornell credit for the arrangement Tuesday and Wednesday night. The judges said he was original because they have never had a contestant on Idol like him and he makes bold choices. Chris was okay with it at first and now all of the sudden it is a big deal. Cornell fans are amazed that people don't know who he is. He was the front man for bands that fit into a specific genre of music. If you didn't listen to that type of music then you wouldn't know who he is. Not to mention there are many bands that people listen to that they don't know the lead singer's name. His bands were not exactly household names and I don't think any of his albums hit the top 40 list. That is reality. Now that has all changed because David Cook sang his cover of someone else's song. He should be thanking David for getting it out there because now everyone does know his name. No one else on that show credits their arrangement and you really don't hear anything about it. Gee I wonder why that is.

I have listened to the studio version and the live version by Chris and David Cook did not sing this song note for note. His voice is so much better than Chris Cornell's there is really no comparison. Chris could never have sang this as perfectly as David not even when he was 25. Chris should have left it at being cool with it because now he just sounds like another spoiled rock star who is full of himself.

And for the record David sang his own arrangement of Little Sparrow and again he sounded perfect. Randy and Simon made a big deal out of saying it was his arrangement and Randy pointed out why he was original and different from the other contestants. He has an amazing vocal range and he can sing just about any song and make it sound good. I don't think we can say that about Chris Cornell. He should appreciate the boost this gave his career and move on. This could really end up biting him in the a$$.

140. Actually.....they only announced that it was Chris Cornells version on the elimination show....after he sang it on Tuesday the judges were giving him all these props for being so "origional" and he was eating it up until someone pointed it out that it WASN'T so origional and that's why they gave credit to Chris Cornell on Wednesday night. Not saying I don't like him, he has a great voice, but I thought that was kinda stupid of him to take the credit for it like he did till someone called him on it.

143. I don't really know Chris Cornell but I think he is just jealous that David Cook sung it way better than he did, just like Doxology was when David took on "Eleanor Ridby' Now matter what he sings he just sound better. So sorry but David got an unique voice that drives his fans crazy.Chris you should be proud that someone took your idea and made it their own. What more do you want?
