Cornell to Cook: "Billie Jean" Is Not Yours, Son!

Chris Cornell wants everyone to know that he really liked David Cook's rendition of "Billie Jean" on "Idol" last week -- because he did it first!

In an interview on Billboard.com, Cornell admits Cook "sang it great," but adds, "it was literally a note-for-note take on what I came up with." Step off, wannabe!

While Ryan Seacrest did give Cornell credit for the innovative cover on the show, Cook's imitation has Chris singing all the way to the bank -- Cornell's "Billie Jean" has jumped to #12 on iTunes. Sing copycats, sing!

91. RE: "Cornell's "Billie Jean" has jumped to #12 on iTunes."

I am not sure when that was because I have been tracking Billie Jean on iTunes since last Thursday and I only saw Chris Cornel's Billie Jean top at #100, when David Cook's Bill Jean was at #1. After that day I have not even seen Chris Cornel's Billie Jean in the top 100 music rankings.

92. I heard Chickeze got a record deal and he is going to record a bunch of covers of Soundgarden and Audioslave tunes. It is going to be so cool. Chris C. will be so pleased.

93. DCook is probably the WORST most uncreative contestant. At least this time Cornell got the credit Before we found out that Cook's rendetions of songs are actually not his own, but have been previously recorded by others. What a hack!!! And Brooke is getting so dull and one note! This years Idol is not the best yet. I still agree with many that Kelyy Clarkson is the ONLY AI, and kudos to her for ' My December' !

On other AI thoughts, Seacrest needs to remember who helped to create him and Stop those feeble attempts to one up Simon. Look at Simon, he is so over it. And why is the TALENTLESS Paula Abdul still a judge?

94. Why are all your headlines and out and out lie? Do you think it's clever? It just points out how juvenile your staff is. If I were a 57 year old "aging failed actor", I'd be embarrassed at what my name is associated with.

95. For everyone saying that they didn't say it was Chris Cornell's version until the second night (results night) of AI: That's not true. Ryan Seacrest clearly said right after David's video and right before his performance "With Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean, Here's David Cook". Many people just didn't catch that b/c he was in a crowd of screaming girls. Maybe they should post subtitles or something. ?!?! Anyways, get over it. We all know this story and it's already been written. By Michael Jackson, by Chris Cornell, and David Cook just "re-wrote" it. SO WHAT! Nothing much is ever original anymore. Cook does have an original album floating around it's actually on Amazon in the top sellers/what's hot. He has to do covers on AI that's part of the deal. Have fun continuing to go round and round about this. I'm so over it and after this week everyone will have something else to say about Cook. Probably more good than bad, yet to be determined.

96. The ONLY person who should be pissed about any of this is Michael Jackson.

97. Gee, people are listening to his song because of DC now. Shouldn't he be thanking him?

98. It's what Randy said, something like yo dawg, most original blah blah blah....of course half the viewing audience thinks the big headed one composed the damn arrangment himself...I mean how many over 40 and under 20 are watching? Millions...and they haven't a clue about Soundgarden, Audioslave....so people are outraged because it makes Cook look like he's better than he is, he's not...he's just smarter than half the contestants.

Get it right America...Michael and Cook final 2.

99. American Idol is about SINGING COVERS! David Cook will likely be singing his own stuff all over soon enough, In the meanwhile chooosing to do and interesting cover version vs the boring retread that Idol is know for is playing the game at an advantage and demostrating musical taste and knowledge. I didn't know Chris Cornell was a contestant. I heard the attribution clearly. .....her's my big prediction, you won't be hearing Dolly Parton whine about the cover he does tonight.

101. And for those of you who are faulting David for not speaking up when the judges were saying he was original, I'd like to see YOU argue with them and say "No, that's not really true" when they're actually giving you a compliment! It's so rare that Simon Cowell ever compliments anyone. Besides, it was at the end of an awesome performance and he was on national television, so don't think it's as easy to come up with the perfect responses to things people say as when you're just sitting there in front of your computer. If it had been you up on that stage, you wouldn't have said the judges were wrong either and you know it, so back off and get over it. Leave David alone already.

102. Cornell is just trying to get some publicity...something he hasn't had in a while. He got credit for the arrangement from the beginning. David's version was sooooo much better anyways

103. JEEZE....SORRY ABOUT THAT AFTER I CONFIRMED THE COMMENT I REALIZED THAT SORRY!!!!

104. I dont see David Cook anywhere on the ITunes chart. I thought I read that they arent letting the American Idol tunes factor into the charts right now. So where did TMZ get the "#12 on the chart" thing??
