Cornell to Cook: "Billie Jean" Is Not Yours, Son!

Chris Cornell wants everyone to know that he really liked David Cook's rendition of "Billie Jean" on "Idol" last week -- because he did it first!

In an interview on Billboard.com, Cornell admits Cook "sang it great," but adds, "it was literally a note-for-note take on what I came up with." Step off, wannabe!

While Ryan Seacrest did give Cornell credit for the innovative cover on the show, Cook's imitation has Chris singing all the way to the bank -- Cornell's "Billie Jean" has jumped to #12 on iTunes. Sing copycats, sing!

122. Star, you are an old biatch who probably diddles herself by watching this douche. Get the F off your computer and take a shower. You have been defending this douchebag all day.

David Douchecook is not original and there is nothing special about him. He stands there with a smirk on his face while the judges give their critique knowing what an ass he really he is for not giving props where it is due. He is as arrogant as they come.

124. I thought it sucked- Chris Cornell should not admit that it was hiversion

125. The original interview is on Entertainment Weekly's website. Chris Cornell actually says some good things about David Cook.

So TMZ, just because David's friends won't give you any dirt on him you have to come up with your own, right?? It's getting really old the way you twist stories around to be something they're not.

126. "brave" and "original"
Please, David Cook is the least original person on AI.
HE NEEDS TO GO!

127. quote "Chris Cornell should be grateful anybody is listening to his music. He is a great singer, but after the way he dumped on Audioslave after they took his junkie *ss in and kept his career going and supported him. I lost alot of respect for him because of that.
BTW - David Cook himself said it was Cornell's version in his interview BEFORE his performance, So ENOUGH already......."
- completely agree... I lost a lot of respect for Cornell after he broke off with Audioslave. His solo career is not going great, he doesnt even look like he is trying to make good music. I hope he comes back with some good stuff. As for David Cook, i dont watch American Idol but its cool he actually covered such a great song

131. Blake--I'm hardly a retard but what I am is a 40 year old that has never heard the name Chris Cornell before the big deal was made that David Cook sang his version of the song. Props to Cornell for a decent version and if he's had he career you state, great for him! I never claimed to be a record mogul or music genius. Jsst stating that Cornell was given credit for the song and now he wants he name out there. Bad press or any press is better than no press at all!

AI wanted to make sure everyone knew that David wasn't taking credit by giving him time in a mini interview before singing tonight as to where he gets his versions. And I take back what I said about bad press because David is getting this bad press and hopefully it doesn't hurt his chances in this competition!

Goodnight!

132. Chris didn't do the glorynote... it wasn't note-to-note.

BTW... I've been all over youtube these days and didn't realize so many bands/singers are covering old pop song. So Chris didn't discover this either.

I love Soundgarden, and appreciate Audioslave, but man oh man - Chris pull your claws back in. Kudo's to David Cook for highlighting your version and bringing back an old fan base and developing a new one.

133. Chris....your arrangement was wonderful but your PIPES are just not as good as David Cook's. He made your version famous on American Idol. Get over yourself and thank David Cook and American Idol for making you a houseshold name. When you sang this song....it was forgetable. Most people have never heard of you until last week so stop your whining and thank AI and David Cook for your week of fame.
