Did Jailers Contribute to Sean Levert's Death?

Sean LevertTMZ has learned that singer Sean Levert was physically restrained by jail guards right before he died.

Staff at the Cuyahoga County Jail tell us Levert was "out of control" and "hallucinating," forcing them to place him in a restraining chair, because he was a danger to himself. The jail's warden Kevin McDonough says Levert was cooperative and "went willingly" when jail staff bound his wrists and shackled his feet.

The Cuyahoga County Coroner tells us Levert's body showed no signs of physical trauma, nor do they suspect foul play. They are currently awaiting toxicology results -- those will take four to six weeks to come back.

Sean reportedly suffered from high blood pressure. In a statement issued yesterday, the Levert family says "There is no song that can capture the loss that we have in our hearts." The family is reportedly asking the FBI to investigate what happened.

47. I wish every white and black person from the US would stop and think about the message we send to our family and other countries outside our borders about race. For whatever reason Mr. Levert was in jail, there are white and black people in jail. We typically in most cases call them criminals. Let's focus on the facts about this situation. Next let's think about the Levert family and the other family that Mr. Levert may have affected before he went to jail. The fact of the matter is this is a misfortunate situation all the way around. So as responsible adults commenting on this matter let's refrain from nonsense about race. I am a black man - US Navy Veteran and I pledge to defend everyone in this country and countries that need our protection. So I would expect Mr. Levert was getting reasonable treatment. Now, when things like this happen, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are not the only legal assistance that the Black or African American Citizen has to their disposal. Wake-up people, we are lossing the global race in every other area because we can't get past a color issue that cropped up centries ago in the US. Nevetheless, I have faith that some day young Americans from all walks of life will get it. We the people in order to form a MORE perfect Union will Unite.

Many Prayers to the Levert Family

To God be the glory

48. There are actually two things that I do not understand. When the story first came out, it was said that Sean was being held for non-payment of child support. Why was he being held psychiatric part of the jail? What would cause him to hallucinate?

49. Live like a dog, die like one - I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for a man who in his "hayday" fathered children and didn't take a part in their WELL BEING because he was surely LIVING WELL.

51. Such a shame that this happened. First Gerald, now this. For those of you who have to play the race card-since race is obviously a big issue in the United States, let it be said that black, white, red, blue, or green, drug addict or unsupportive father, rich or poor, this man is dead, and all who knew him will grieve his loss. Hopefully, the policemen and women went by the book in this circumstance. I just wonder why if they knew he was hallucinating and having medical issues, why wasn't he taken to recieve medical attention? I will be waiting to hear more about this in the future. Meanwhile, instead of focusing on skin color, perhaps we should pray for his family and that they recieve the strength to go through this type of sorrow yet again. Peace, Sean Levert, You Will Be Sorely Missed.

52. ok , these guards are trained on how to deal with out of controll people. It hard to take blood pressure while trying to restrian them. I am sure the blood pressure was the problem here. Their needs to be steps taken to put on record restrian with High blood pressure method. Dont know what that would be but these guys have no training in this field. Sad tradgedy.

53. Unfortunately, it is common for a restrained prisoner to experience difficulty in breathing and, in extreme cases, death. This isn't to say that the guards were wrong to restrain him, just that it's something that isn't all that uncommon.

It's always a heartbreak when someone dies so early...

56. A statement from Gerald LeVert's family after he died of not "just a regular old drug overdose:"

"Gerald had several health issues including recovering from a severed Achilles tendon and lingering shoulder pain, among other things, that required him to take prescribed pain medications. We had no idea that this would be the cause of his death. Unfortunately, we can't turn back the hands of time, for if we could, he may still be with us today. We accept what has been reported and thank all of Gerald's family, friends and fans for their continual outpouring of love for our loss."

Gerald LeVert also had pneumonia at the time of his death, which is why he was taking antihistamines. He had a combination of prescription drugs in his system that proved to be a deadly mix, JUST LIKE HEATH LEDGER.

You can also be arrested, in my state, for failure to transfer your car title in a timely manner when you buy a car. Should those folks be killed in jail too, so you can post "shoulda' stamped that envelope sooner, criminal! Now ya dead! Ye-ah!"
Crikey. Not paying your child support on time is not, in any state, an offense punishable by death. And boy howdy, I guess that child support will be REALLY late now. Thank you, Justice.
