Did Jailers Contribute to Sean Levert's Death?

Sean LevertTMZ has learned that singer Sean Levert was physically restrained by jail guards right before he died.

Staff at the Cuyahoga County Jail tell us Levert was "out of control" and "hallucinating," forcing them to place him in a restraining chair, because he was a danger to himself. The jail's warden Kevin McDonough says Levert was cooperative and "went willingly" when jail staff bound his wrists and shackled his feet.

The Cuyahoga County Coroner tells us Levert's body showed no signs of physical trauma, nor do they suspect foul play. They are currently awaiting toxicology results -- those will take four to six weeks to come back.

Sean reportedly suffered from high blood pressure. In a statement issued yesterday, the Levert family says "There is no song that can capture the loss that we have in our hearts." The family is reportedly asking the FBI to investigate what happened.

77. To THE SO_CALLED NURSE it is ignorant people like you who could not cut it in a REAL HOSPITAL and have no choice if they want to work in their field that they have to work in a jail since they are the lowest performers. And yes I was there for "observation" 72 hour hold and no, the so-called doctors and nurses were not very kind and welcoming and did not bother to call my doctor or pharmacy in Beverly Hills which is where I was living as was my md. Fortunately, I did not appear to be a danger to myself or others and was let go. But don't go defending the JAIL SYSTEM in AMERICA you should be embarassed to even work there. Any for a nurse to make a comment like go take Lithium, I see why you work in a jail, prejudice against the very people that you are in contact with everyday since the majority in jail/prison are mentally ill and jail/prison is the new psychiatric holding center. If you saw just how beautiful, thin and well-off I am you would die of jealousy, and no I don't take lithium which is the oldest drug known to man for bipolar, I more like the Ted Turner school of bipolar where it actually works for me and makes me extremely sucessful.

78. I'm a distant friend of the Leverts, as well as a fan. I'm cosigning with #62, Sean's cousin. This is so disrespectful and judgmental for people to be so negative during the families loss of their son. Not to mention, they are still coping with the loss of Gerald. Those whom knew Sean, knows that he wouldn't demonstrate "bizarre behavior". So, please put yourself in the families' position: They lost 2 sons less in 2 years. Gerald and Sean are gone, and not coming back. Eddie and Martha would have never thought that they would have to bury their children. No matter what Gerald and Sean did in their lives, good or bad, the bottom line, they are human beings, and WE ALL make mistakes. Jesus died for all of our sins, and God will make the final judgment call for all of us.

My thoughts, condolences, and prayers will continue for the Levert family. I pray that Eddie and Martha can grow stronger from this ordeal. Thanks, LeTecia.

Much luv!

79. He probably died from high blood pressure /and or diabetes. Hallucinating sounds like diabestes coma. ALL THE JAILS MUST BE INSTRUCTED TO NOT USE THE CHAIR UNLESS THEY STRICTLY GO IN AND MONITOR THE PERSON EVERY 15 MINUTES--JUST LIKE A SEVERLY DISABLED PERSON. THE CHAIR SHOULD BE USED VERY INFREQUENTLY. UNTIL THESE PEOPLE ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE CHAIR, THINGS LIKE THIS WILL HAPPEN.,

81. i am disgusted by the things that are being aaid about a man that is forever gone. i considered my self a special friend of sean's and gerald's. i knew from spending time with him how much he loved his children and his wife. he recently just had a baby that has to grow up with out his father. you people know nothing about sean. have never met him nor spent time with him to know just how special he was. this great man just like his brother is forever gone. he made the mistake of not making child support payments through the right channels, but what happened with the court i will never know. i can say i spoke with sean in december and he was looking forward to bringing levert back to us. that legacy is now gone. no one knows what happened in that jail. you do have officers that mistreat inmates) especially if they think that inmates think they are above them. i can say that because i am a correctional officer and have been one for over 14 years things happen in there, but knowing sean for over 5 years and being around him we will have to wait for the toxicology reports. so please people stop being cowards hiding behind a computer screen passing judgement. sean was a husband, father, son and a friend to so many. so please let this wonder brother r.i.p! as if it was one of your own.

AND AS FOR YOU 82, YOU ARE A JEALOUS, LOWLIFE. IF THE ONLY BLACK PEOPLE YOU KNOW ARE DRUG DEALERS AND WELFARE MOTHERS, THEN OBVIOUSLY THE BETTER CLASS OF BLACK PEOPLE WON'T HAVE ANYHING TO DO WITH YOUR SORRY A**.

84. I think its a shame, and my prayers go out to the Levert family, however police and co's tend to use excessive force down here all the time and get away with it, if in fact that is what happened i hope they suffer mentally for what they have done and put Sean's family through. Child Support should be re visted. You are not a crminal and should not be put in jail because you cant or didnt pay child support.

85. First of all I used to work for cuyahoga county as a correctional officer. I have seen how some inmates act sometimes its easy to understand why some inmates are treated in that manner. I do believe that not all inmates should be treated that way . I also seen things i dont agree with and had first hand knowledg and did not agree with it. I was disappointed with watching some gaurds lossing control and the cover ups. The one that sticks with me is when i seen a sergeant lose control on an inmate who had a mental problem at least it seamed to me before this inmate was picked out there was another inmate that the sergeant picked out but luckly the cpl. happend to know this person thays what saved his ass from a beatting. All I know is ill catch hell for this comment because if they find out who this is. My regaurds to the Lavert family a fan for a long time of lavert family.

86. This situation is very tragic. Sean had enough money to take care of his responsibilities before this situation reached to this level. As on blogger wrote: He should have taken care of his children, and not fuel his drug habit.

88. Only God and the people that witnessed the incident really know what happened to Sean Levert. My prayer is that the truth would come out and if justice is needed, let it prevail. My greatest prayer is that the LORD would wrap His arms around the Levert family, comfort their hearts and heal them during this hour of bereavement. May God bless the Levert family and keep them until they are reunited with Gerald and Sean. In Jesus name. Amen.

89. The real tragedy of Sean Levert’s death is that he should never have been in jail in the first place. Child support is a tool of the government to control and destroy families.

For a mother to get assistance, she has to divulge the personal information for herself and her children. Once in the system, her information is closely monitored. For the fathers, his every move is tracked like a criminal—much like being on probation. His pay and assets can all be attached. It’s no more than modern slavery

The government claims that parents are responsible for supporting their children. However, if one parent can’t work and pay—even due to a disability, he goes to jail while if the other parent won’t work, the government gives her welfare (AFDC), housing assistance (Section 8), food stamps, education and day care assistance.

Child support was never about taking care of children. When politicians decided to end welfare, they decided they'd make dads pay. The problem was that many of the dads that they were trying to collect from didn't make enough to pay.

Support amounts are set excessively high because states receive federal money based on how much support they collect. This is why it’s illegal for a judge to reduce arrears and why they don’t reduce amounts even in situations in which dad loses his job or can’t work.

Just like welfare, mothers cannot get support if dad is still in the family so child support destroys families. The system has brainwashed mothers into believing that their children don’t need fathers—just a check. Ultimately, as we see every day, it’s the children who suffer, but by the time the mothers realize it, the damage is already done

Don’t believe the Child Support Lie. It’s not about taking care of children—it’s about controlling us.
