"Tonight Show" host Jay Leno has apologized for asking a visibly uncomfortable Ryan Phillippe for his "gayest look" during an interview last week. Homey don't play that!

In a statement to People, Leno said "In talking about Ryan's first role, I realize that what I said came out wrong, I certainly didn't mean any malice. I agree it was a dumb thing to say, and I apologize."

Jay made the remark in a lame attempt to make light of Ryan's first acting gig as a gay teen on "One Life to Live."

Unfortunately, Leno has yet to apologize for 16 years of unfunny opening monologues.

92. I think Jay Leno is much funnier than David Letterman. David Letterman is just mean-spirited and soooo not funny and seems to be angry all the time. If being funny means you have to be nasty to people, then he is nothing more than a big bully.

Now if you do not think that is funny you have to either be Bill or Hillary Clinton.

I'm neither Bill or Hilary Clinton and I don't think it's funny. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Unfortunately or fortunately, everyone will not look at the jokes or comments the same.

94. 33. To you people who are bashing Jay Leno: If you don't like him, why do you watch? If that really dull, silly, unfunny O'Brien really does come on the Tonight Show, I hope Leno goes to ABC. I can't imagine life without Leno. No matter what the day is like with all the craziness, I know that Jay will put me in a good mood and make me laugh.

97. okay everyone, its time for me to out Jay Leno. 20 years ago he gave me head after one of his gigs, and he swallowed and did it like he'd been doing it his whole life. Jay is a big Queen.

At least he did not hesitate to be a man and apologize - we ALL say things from time to time that we wish we could take back - and just because he is in the lime light that makes him a huge target. I appreciate his PROMPT APOLOGY, ADMITTING INSENSITIVITY WAS NOT INTENDED - IN MY BOOK - IT IS OVER AND DONE -
JAY IS A GOOD, GOOD MAN.... He meant NO HARM....

101. Why are we supposed to be so accepting of gays and their lifestyle? Oh. Because it's their choice, and they can't handle any sort of persecution.

102. I beg to disagree with you TMZ. Jay Leno has the best opening monologues of any of the current late night talk show hosts.

Get over the gay comment. TMZ has made and will continue to make the most insensitive comments. So don't throw stones when you live in a glass house.

103. Jay Leno needn't apologize. However, it was time someone stood up and called him out on it. It was a gay-bashing jamboree. Totally disgusting, and inappropriate. He was making fun of gays. Leno was never funny, and I can't wait for his old fat tired ass to be dragged out of the studio.
