You Decide -- Did We Go Too Far?

6:30 PM UPDATE: OK, POINT WELL TAKEN!

The TMZ newsroom is split -- half of us (like a lot of you commenters!) think the last line in the Elliott Yamin article was way out of line, the other half, well, not so much.

What do YOU think? Was it in bad taste, or just a joke? Polls close at 6:30 PM ET. Majority rules. If 51% say take it down, we will.

451. What is so rude exactly????? I would have never known who this was if they hadn't put that fact in the article... Tell me please why is this rude?

452. The joke was harsh, but it was aimed at Taylor HIcks, not Mrs. Yamin, per se. Perhaps not in the best of taste, but not worthy of this uproar, and definitely not worth censuring.

453. Just another classless TMZ 'article'. WHO writes this crap on TMZ, ugly 14 year old boys who think it's cool to be hateful?

454. Absolutely appaulling! I am an avid TMZ reader and I often laugh when y'all poke fun, but that was WAY too far. Take it down and have some respect.

455. Don't bother to take it down. It's done. You people are gross.

456. For those people that missed the line and are asking about it here it is....

"Yamin finished in 3rd place in 2006 on "Idol," behind Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks -- who, like Mrs. Yamin, will never be heard from again."

457. Although in extremely poor taste-I understood the comment to be a crack at Taylor Hicks, not Elliott. Elliott's independent album was released a year ago and his singles are STILL on the charts and heavily played on the radio.

Much love to Elliott and the rest of his family, our hearts are with you. Rest in Peace Mama Yamin.

458. why is this story still on the site?

459. This is stooping even lower than joking about somebody's death - this is basically a pre-teen bully's behaviour! "Oh, I didn't do anything wrong, but I'll say sorry anyway if you say so, Mum *sneers*" You wrote NO SINGLE LINE admitting that what you've done is wrong. Not a single apology. How utterly, unbelievably low.

TMZ, it would be much more respectful to just use your common sense and erase that joke line without asking - and issue an apology.

461. The reason TMZ took so long to take the offensive comments out, is they wanted this kind of "controversy" for publicity. I'm guessing they even knew the comment would be regarded as crass and hurtful and over-the-line, but the wrote it anyway....to make controversy and thereby created publicity for TMZ.

And IMO, that's even worse.

What a skanky-ass group of people "tmz" is. I used to think celebs were wrong to beat up on TMZ, now I think they should be able to do whatever they want to TMZ staff. Including breaking cameras.

"Just sayin'!"

463. the person who wrote the line should be fire... he/she is an idiot...

464. Screw you tmz. What a loser organization. I hope you go under and crash and die.

465. This whole affair just reflects the disconnect that a later, but not all that distant, generation has with another. "The greatest generation" and most specifically those who fought and died in that global conflict deserve our utmost respect. If the purpose of the article by TMZ was to poke fun at an individual or group and their activities, that is just fine. However, to dis the ultimate sacrifice made by soldiers on all of our behalf, soldiers who literally died so that we can currently live in relative freedom is disgusting and shows incredible ignorance and selfishness. TMZ already has a sort of low-brow, not overly cerebral image and following. Do something good for yourself by apologizing and raising the bar in world that has stop looking upward to see where it isn't anymore.
