Barry Bonds: One Hit Wonder

While outside STK last night, indicted teamless MLB player Barry Bonds was so worried he'd wind up on YouTube that he wouldn't answer any questions -- only mustering up "Hi, TMZ" over and over.

It's not like we brought up any of that steroid scandal stuff or anything.

31. Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

35.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

36. Don't understand what happened to this guy. He had a lot going for him but for some reason wasn't happy until he messed it all up.

37. Does he realize now how good he had it and how much fun he was having? I wonder what he thinks of the decisions he made that messed it all up? Is he convinced he made no mistakes? It looks here like he doesn't regret a thing. I hope he READS the comments and sees what they say.

41. The "Desiderata" and "Amazing Grace" are nice poems but what the H do they have to do with an item about Barry Bonds? Do you get your rocks off by posting long irrelevant comments on blogs?

43. To #27 Forever Black, you are really wrong. Racism has nothing to do with this. It all comes down to the fact that this was about Barry Bonds, who happens to be black. He is a cheater, right along with Jason Gianboni, Mark Mc Guire, A-Rod and plenty of other players, black, white and hispanic. Bonds is no where in the same class as the great Jackie Robinson, who without his great courage thre would have been a longer period of time that great non white atheletes would have had to work for. And how about those great players who came after Robinson....Willie Mayes and Willie Mc Covey? The great Roger Maris, who also played honestly and with class? Forever Black, this is about players who have cheated....and Barry Bonds is one of them whether you want to face it or not. I used to love the game of baseball and there was nothing better to me than watching a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants in the early 1960's. Both teams had major talented players and although I was a Dodger fan, it was always a thrill to see both teams go at it with their honest players. Bonds like many other players who chose to use steroids is never going to be in the same class as Mayes, McCovey, Maris, Mantle, Robinson, Koufax, Marichal and hundreds of others, black, white, hispanic and asian. If you chose to be racist, your choice but don't you dare point the finger at those of us who refuse to honor Bonds simply because you see it as a racial thing. It's not. He cheated....plain and simple to get a homerun record he could not get on his own hard work.

44. HE HAS AND WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE MORE MONEY THAN ALL YOU BROKE,BITTER,ANGRY SONS-OF-BITCHES!!

45. cb, you're right. Bonds isn't the only one who's going down. I expect Roger Clemens (a white guy) to go down big time any day now. Not only did he juice but he lied about it to Congress. If Bush hadn't pulled strings for him he'd be in prison already and I don't think even the President can protect him for much longer. But that doesn't change the fact that Bonds cheated and doesn't deserve that record. Willie Mays supports him in public but I bet he cries in shame in private over the dishonor his godchild was brought to the game.

jay-t: You're right he has more money. He still sold his honor and, in the end, money is a poor bedfellow. They don't call it cold, hard cash for nothing. I may not have his money but I sleep a hell of a lot better at night and I'm not afraid to meet my Maker.
