Venezuela to Simpsons: Get Out, Gringos!

Simpsons out, Baywatch inChavez Venezuela has yanked "The Simpsons" off the air, claiming it may be inappropriate for children. Aye carumba!

Replacing the Simpson family - "Baywatch Hawaii" - a wholesome show where half naked bodyguards strut their enhanced ta-tas on the beach.

The decision was made to get rid of "The Simpsons" after several viewers complained to Venezuela's National Telecommunications Commission. Elba Guillen, a spokeswoman for Televen TV in Caracas, said showing the animated cartoon series at 11 a.m. could violate national
regulations prohibiting "messages that go against the whole education of boys, girls and adolescents." We're guessing Venezuela doesn't get irony.

46. I have no doubt Homer and family will be fine. Homer just has a way of making lemonade out of lemons. BUT...WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN TO LENNY AND CARL? Those poor guys...I do so worry about them.

47. I'm Venezuelan. I live in Venezuela. As I was getting ready to write my daily column about the business world, I first checked my Google Alert Emails. Google scans the media with everything related to Venezuela. To my surprise, there were quite a few links to the Simpsons story. TMZ is one of the very few that picked the story in the US. But in the UK, several newspapers PLUS the BBC and Reuters picked it too. Let's not argue about the Simpsons: some people like it, some people don't, that's fine. But common, replacing the Simpsons with Baywatch Hawaii? What are kids suppossed to learn from it? Maybe they will surprise their teacher by their "sudden" interest in cleavage.

48. That is great news. I wish people would care as much about kids here in the States, like they do in Venezuela.

49. I think they should develop a reality show for Venezuelan tlevision featuring Hugo Chavez and his girl, Naomi Campbell. There is so much in that format to work with that would be not only educational but entertaining, too.

50. Chavez did not remove the show, the television station removed the show. And I don't blame them. Advice once given to me by a child psychologist was this: The Simpsons is not a suitable show for children. I question, however, its replacement with Baywatch.

Oh well, the fact is that most tv productions imported from America are unintelligent, vacuous, and devoid of any signs of intelligence and creativity. I think it's best to keep kids away from all American tv shows, not just the simpsons.
