Couric Will Leave CBS On Her Terms

Sources connected to the whole CBS megillah with Katie Couric tell TMZ Katie will probably jettison the evening news anchor chair for good, but not before the election.

Here's the lowdown. CBS hasn't delivered on any of the promises that lured Couric to the network in the first place -- generally, they said they would adjust the newscast to her skills, but in fact it's almost the same Metamucil broadcast as before. We're told she's frustrated and there is "strong interest" on the part of CNN, in particular to replace Mr. King when he retires.

We're also told several talk show syndicators have already contacted Couric's reps because they think she has enough heat to break into daytime. It's not a done deal that she'll choose CNN over talk, but right now both options are on the table.

As for the stories that CBS is pushing her out -- not true, because of two words: Les Moonves. He's been her guru and will let it all play out the way that's best for her. And, we're told CBS will continue to use Couric in other roles.

So the stories that she's leaving in two weeks are bogus, but expect it to happen after the election.

If the ratings were good, there wouldn't be a problem. Clearly the ratings do not appear to be good and that is a problem. It doesn't matter what gender the person is. If the ratings aren't good enough, then it is time for him or her to go.

Bringing up Brokaw is ridiculous. Brokaw hasn't done the nightly news in a very long time.

Bringing up Gibson is a valid point, but I seriously doubt ABC has as much money invested in his salary as CBS has invested in Couric. Couric was clearly brought in to increase ratings and that does not seem to be happening.

Couric is a multi-millionaire, hardly a victim and every time I hear any other woman play the victim card, IMO, it sets women back decades and starts to sound like whining.

67. Katie was costing Today viewers before she left because of her liberal bias. She is not a sgood as she thinks she is. The best thing for all of us would be for her to take all those millions and share it with us. But keep a couple million to retire on. Michelle Obama said that the ones with the pie need to share with the ones who have none. So let's start with Katies millions. Then we can move on to Ohpra, Clinton, Kennedy, Bon Jovi, Gates, all senators & congress, Ted Turner, Streisand, Gore (who has made millions off this Global Warming scam), etc.... Let's spread the wealth Obama, give to us who have not earned what other rich people have. And some of them did not earn it. I would hope we all start thingking for our selves before the election and quit listening to people like Couric & others who do not live in the real world.

74. #58, the only flaw in your argument is that you are calling all of these television anchors – especially Katie Couric -- journalists. They couldn’t be anything further from being a journalist. They are television personalities and dolled-up readers of news already reported by print reporters. It is an unending insult to call either Couric or Matt Lauer, for that matter, or any of the numerous talking heads and “pundits” on the boob tube journalists. Katie Couric even plagiarized a piece out of the WSJ for her CBS blog and got publically reamed for it. No doubt the country still has a long way to go in combating its sexist and racists demons but the only talent Gibson, Brokaw and Couric have is there ability to read, sound and look good on camera. I’m not saying their complete idiots, they are not. But Couric has the least gravitas out of all of them. And why do think she had to fight so hard to finally be permitted to moderate one of the Democratic debates? I’m betting that the Hillary camp didn’t want Hill’s media doppelganger reminding the country how awful Senator Clinton is by having two of them at a nationally televised political event and on the same stage together no less. There needs to be a woman anchor in a big three network chair. Clearly, the country said thumbs down to Couric because of who she is, not because of her sex.

75. I grew to dislike Katie while she was on Today and watched it only rarely because of her and her personality. She often looks like she's trying to stifle a laugh when reporting on something serious.

She does indeed need a new makeup artist. What is up with the spiky eyelashes and clumped gobs of mascara?

And, her unattractive gummy smile in addition to her ego is what makes her totally unbearable to watch on any program. She has ruined CBS Evening News. Don't let her ruin Larry King Live. She needs to be put out to pasture as she jumped the shark years ago.
