Matchbox 20 Won't Play Because of Some Bulls***

Matchbox 20 is canceling a show at Cheyenne Frontier Days -- which bills itself as the world's biggest outdoor rodeo -- over their newfound concern for the animals involved. Did they not know what a rodeo was?

Lead singer Rob Thomas and his wife, Marisol, posted this statement on the band's website: "We ask that (fans) please understand that it would be impossible for us to put ourselves in the position of making money from what we believe to be the mistreatment of animals."

But get this: the band is still scheduled to perform at the North Dakota State Fair -- which also includes rodeo events. They'll figure it out eventually.

31. Hi Kelli, while you may think it's only people/groups on the "downswing" of their careers that would be playing at "rodeos and state fairs", but it is not the case in our area. We do not have venues that will allow for big names to come through, so we have to have them at large outdoor events during the summertime. Umm..we have had Nickelback, Three Doors Down, too...not exaactly "losers" either. I think it is wonderful that these groups would come to a smaller place (I think we can accomadated over 10,000), and allow us the same opportunity to enjoy them live. I am not a huge Matchbox 20 fan, but I am certainly LESS of a fan now. they are hypocrites, and if they spent any amount of time behind the chutes, seeing how the animals are treated and cared for, well...I could only wish *I* could be treated so well. Hang out with all my buddies all day long, eating, sleeping and pooping, have sex every now and then and work about 8 seconds a week..I would take that, thank you very much...

32. There's a web site called www.ShameOnCheyenne.com that shows how cruel rodeos are. Matchbox Twenty is standing up for something they believe in, which is more than can be said for those dissing them (including TMZ), or for those who support rodeos. Rodeo people are just a bunch of insecure John Wayne wannabes.

TMZ -- get a clue.

Go Matchbox Twenty!

33. Actually, MB20's excuse may not be true. Living in Cheyenne, I heard a rumor that it had nothing to do with the treatment of animals that led to the cancellation. MB20 was asking for more money to play such a small venue, but the CFD committee wasn't willing to pay any more. So you can take Rob Thomas's excuse how you want.

35. Jaime, I feel better for Matchbox 20. Thanks for clearing the whole "venue" thing up for me. Now you make me wish I was a bull. That is the funniest thing I have read in a LONG TIME!! I will be laughing the rest of the night. Thanks!!! I want to be a rodeo animal for a week! :)

37. And seriously...BULLS are mistreated? Im pretty sure they arent the ones getting bucked off and stomped on!

They wouldn't be bucking people off and stomping on them if they weren't being forced to carry riders against their will.

Duh.

That attitude of "they're just dumb animals and they're too stupid to suffer" only encourages the PETAloonies.

Everything that you eat must die first, whether it be plant or animal. There are ways of slaughtering that cause unnecessary pain, and ways of slaughtering that cause minimal pain to the animal. I'm in favor of humane treatment of animals, including during the slaughtering process.

I don't see any reason to torment animals for public amusement, though. I don't see why anybody needs to ride on a bull's back, or torment a bull in any other way. Slaughtering at least provides food necessary to live.

Not everybody who believes in treating animals well is a militant vegan PETAloonie. Some of us are perfectly normal people who think eating meat and being kind to animals don't have to be mutually exclusive concepts. Nor do we have to join a terrorist group in order to support our beliefs.

Unfortunately, those who don't care about treating animals humanely and brag about the fact, only encourage the vegan fanatics to be more fanatical. They're shooting themselves in the foot; they just don't realize it.

40. They are obviously standing up for something they feel passionate about. Its interesting how peoples views change once they make the choice to educate themselves about what really goes on in a rodeo vs. choosing to remain ignorant. I think its admirable what they're doing.

41. Rob Thomas is freakin' hot..... Love him.... Especially love "Ever the Same" ... He wrote it for his wife.. Que Lindo!!!

42. Have some of you forgotten how the early Americans arrived here and settled? We did not have "Wal-Marts" and places to go for our needs. They depended on farming and being able to "rodeo" their food. It amazes me how some of you can sit there with your expensive leather purses and wallets and condemn a sport that has been around for centuries. Next time you feel the need to be an animal activist go after puppy mills and leave this subject alone. As for Matchbox 20 they need to educate themselves and be greatful they still have an audience to play for. I am guessing they won't for much longer,
