Matchbox 20 Won't Play Because of Some Bulls***

Matchbox 20 is canceling a show at Cheyenne Frontier Days -- which bills itself as the world's biggest outdoor rodeo -- over their newfound concern for the animals involved. Did they not know what a rodeo was?

Lead singer Rob Thomas and his wife, Marisol, posted this statement on the band's website: "We ask that (fans) please understand that it would be impossible for us to put ourselves in the position of making money from what we believe to be the mistreatment of animals."

But get this: the band is still scheduled to perform at the North Dakota State Fair -- which also includes rodeo events. They'll figure it out eventually.

77. meat is not an important part of a diet as evidenced by many studies.
That may be your opinion but it is not a fact.
Besides, the cruelty that goes into providing that chicken on people's table also effect the human beings who have to slice it first. Many end up with clawed frozen hands because of carpal tunnel syndrome.
The price many pay to provide people with their precious chicken nuggets or chicken breat 98% fat free.
It's inhumane both to animals and human beings.,
Those who support meat eating are no better than those who support rodeos.
Put that in your uneven soapboxes and wobble on.

78. Why is there a picture of Rob Thomas being compared to Britney Spears? He looks nothing like that cow!

79. i've spent a little time at local county fairs and local rodeos.

the bulls are almost like trained dogs. they come out of the chute buck for a few seconds and then often head for the exit gate on their own. not always but often.

for you who have never seen a rodeo up close. the rodeo bulls i have seen had the strap around the midsection, a bulls nuts are between his back legs..

personally, the only 3 things i like about rodeos are

#1- bull riding, and i'm always cheering for the bull.
#2-ladies barrel racing,
#3-good lookin cowgirls!

80. matchbox twenty rocks! saw them at sold out Palms Hotel in Vegas. All the haters are just a bunch of Bush loving red state red necks. Should round em all up like Bulls and drop em into Iraq since it's doing so well...nice and safe.

81. They're not anti-rodeo. They don't like the way the animals are treated by their caregivers. People who don't want to see animals abused don't have to support PETA or be a vegatarian. I think its great that they cancelled for a good cause.

82. the other guys in the band need to gag rob and soon before he dries up their fanbase who are tired of his political and social crap that has started to overshadow the music.
Stick a sock in it rob and get back to what you know, music, because obviously other topics are out of your grasp and wearing on the public patience.

Posted at 8:27PM on Apr 13th 2008 by expect their fanbase to further dwindle

83. Wow it sounds like you guys are the ones who need to figure it out. You can have a Rodeo and not treat the animals poorly. And they dont have to play at Rodeos and Fairs (the last concert I went to in March was sold out) but why not? They saw some video of an animal being abused at this particular affair. They havent seen anything bad at the North Dakota fair. I think its great that theyre not being hypocritical and standing up for what they believe.

84. Matchbox who? Oh yeah, they had a couple of hits in the 90's then people got tired of hearing Rob Thomas whining.
Matchbox 20 should be happy when anybody calls their sorry asses to perform and they get paid.
The "Daddy Of 'Em' All" should be happy they cancelled. This way they won't have a 3/4 empty show area on the night they were scheduled to perform.

85. I'm suprised Rob Thomas didn't blame the cancellation on food poisoning.

86. Like others have said, MB20 had just finished a major US tour of which they sold out several large arenas, including MSG. They have no trouble finding places to play or people to see them.

Also, animal cruelty is not a "recent concern" of Rob Thomas, nor is it a publicity stunt. Rob and Mari have a foundation called Sidewalk Angels which helps abandoned and abused animals. Rob has also played in benefits and given record proceeds to Pets Alive (a no-kill sanctuary for animals).

I am glad that Matchbox Twenty decided to go with what they believe in and cancel the show!

88. Yeah, well I live in Cheyenne, WY and have for the past 15 years. Cheyenne Frontier Days is huge around here. I love the carnival, the concerts, the pancake breakfast downtown, the parades - it's all great. But I do NOT condone a rodeo. I have not, nor will I ever, pay money to go see that. It is inhumane to animals. If you want more proof of that, go to www.shameoncheyenne.com and watch the videos. If you aren't moved by what you see, you're an unfeeling idiot. Yes, I eat meat, but I don't torture the animals for my entertainment. I completely support MB 20's decision.

89. FYI Tmz and all should know Rob Thomas and his wife Marisol have been active animals rights activists in theire home state of NY for many years. They done many things to help various charities in the Hudson Valley. So this is not not "new" to them. I for one commend them and the MB20 band.

90. LOOK - It was their decision, and I stand by them. Have any of you haters ever even been to a rodeo, or been "backstage" or know what conditions these animals are subjected to? Until you know exactly what goes on - its you who is the douche-bag. I commend Rob and Marisol for their decision.
