Dr. Phil -- Screwed from the Bottom

TMZ has learned Dr. Phil's legal document wielding, cash-carrying, tough guy was not a supervising producer on the show. He was not an assistant producer. He was not a producer. He was not even close to being a producer. He was a production assistant. Think intern with a paycheck.
Here's the way it all went down: The good Doc's executive staff sent a seasoned producer down to Florida, along with a P.A. to chase the story of 8 teens who allegedly beat a classmate on tape. We're told the folks back home were horrified when they saw Mr. Large-and-In-Charge putting the smackdown on local reporters after springing 17-year-old Mercades Nichols from the pokey. We're told execs on the show were pissed that the experienced producer allowed the P.A. to be in a position to embarrass the show in front of the cameras.

The bigger question -- who hatched the plan to pay the bail for the woman accused of kidnapping and videotaping the brutal beating? The show issued a statement saying certain staff members "went beyond their guidelines," but the buzz on the Paramount lot is that it would be impossible for the producer to pay the $3,300 for the bail and put up $33,000 in collateral without the full knowledge and approval of higher-ups on the show.

The plan could have been pulled off, but after the P.A. mouthed off publicly, Phil's battleship was sunk somewhere off the Florida coast.

We contacted Phil's people an hour ago, who responded by saying they "have no additional comment."

16. Wish there was a show, if you honestly think that the type of sociopath who would commit this sort of attack would listen to a middle-aged bald guy in a three-piece suit and turn their lives around, I have a couple of bridges I want to sell you and some prime bottom-land right between Minneapolis and St. Paul.

17. I will never watch Dr. Phil again, He used to have a great show, he's now turned Hollywood and all morals are out the window as long they get the "top" story, those little brats didn't deserve bail.
Dr. Phil I sure hope you've put all your money in investments that will be able to support you and your family in the fashion you've grown to love, cause I bet you get canceled real soon.................I hope!

YOU NEED TO "GET REAL" DR.PHIL, "HOW THAT WORKING FOR YOU????"

18. Dr. Phil, YOU are a DOUCHEBAG.

19. Right. Like a production assistant has the clout to write $33,000 checks.

Phil is so trying to cover his a$$ by throwing some underpaid flunky under the bus.

Like we didn't think he was a big enough jerk already.

20. Dr. Phil may need to crack down on some of his staff. His show is really becoming very sleezy. Used to like him. not so much anymore.

21. What was this production assistant doing, trying to make his footage on Dr. Phil look like a sleaze/voyeuristic episode of Jerry Springer or Maury Povich? This is deplorable with what he did! He was really exploiting those teens and now they're completely embarrassed on national TV!!!! Why didn't the experienced producer do the clip? You've got a production assistant who's already humiliated himself already with doing that tape! And why would he pay the bail for the teens that landed in jail? They should do the time and punishment for what they did.

22. I have always said PHIL is exactly like his promoter, OPRAH W. All these type show hosts are only a BAG of LIES and WIND, and the American public help make them what they are. Just think of all the MILLIONS or TRILLIONS the viewers give these people.

23. What a mess. Dr Phil is usually very good about straightenting situations ou on his show, So it is a shame this thing went to pieces, However, paying that moron's bail to get her on th show was really, really, bad. At least Dr Phil acknowledges it, He doesn't seem to be denying anything that is detrimental.

24. I will never watch his show again. I did read in Parade magazine today he makes 90million a year. I think that is better than an assistant manager though. I have no idea what he was thinking with the latest stunt.

25. Dr. Phil show is turning into "Jerry Springer" type show. I will stop watching if it does.

26. Pat, Sorry but Jerry Springer has more integrity than that. He never pretends that he's doing the show to try to help people. He knows that what he is doing is straight out exploitation and he's never denied it.

30. Somebody needs to put the good "Dr" on straight street-you would think he would have learned a very valuable lesson from the Britney incident. Those little animals should have been allowed to wallow in jail, and they could have done a show with the families,or via satellite. I have lost what little remaining respect I had for Dr Phil and his motives-it;s just become more trash TV and I predict he will end up losing alot of his viewers over this one.
