Cameron Diaz's Father Dies From Pneumonia

UPDATE: Cameron issued the following statement: "My mom, sister and I are deeply appreciative of the overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this difficult time for us and all of our family. My dad was loved by so many people and his humor and spirit will always live on in our hearts."

TMZ has learned that Cameron Diaz's father died suddenly early this morning.

We're told the 58-year-old Emilio Diaz, a popular resident of Seal Beach, Calif., recently developed the flu which then turned into pneumonia. We hear his death was "shocking" as Emilio was in "terrific health." Diaz is currently filming her upcoming flick "My Sister's Keeper." A source on the set tells us production on the film was shut down today.

Emilio was a second generation Cuban-American who worked as a foreman for an oil company. He had a bit part in his daughter's film "There's Something About Mary" as "Jailbird."

A rep for Cameron did not return our request for comment.

Folks, when you run a FEVER OF 101+ and start to feel REALLY SICK and congested, go NOW to get medical care. There is a kind of pneumonia that will kill you within a few days if not treated. Don't worry that you are being too (embarrassingly) cautious.......you can always feel embarrassed later when you are ALIVE. Remember the creator of "Kermit the Frog", he died of this also. Many folks do, but those who LIVE always say they thought they just had the bronchial flu and didn't want to be a wuss.

Like I said before, JIM HENSON, the Creator of the "MUPPETS", and Kermit the Frog and all, died just few years ago, from the SAME THING...He was a HEALTHY man in his 50's , suddenly got the flu that quickly turned into pneumonia and he died within a few days....IT WAS A VERY SAD LOSS AND QUITE SHOCKING BACK THEN AND STILL HAPPENS NOW...Stop being disgusting about Cameron Diaz's Father...He died suddenly from Pneumonia. Let their family grieve in peace. Sheesh

204. Cameron, I just read about your dad, I was reading the days news after a long day and kids are asleep. I normally don't keep track of celebrities but your name has always perked my attention... You seem like such a likable person and I've enjoyed you in the movies I've seen. Won't lie and say I've seen all of them nor can I remember the titles but point is, you lost a parent and my heart breaks for you. I lost my mom last year and while my friends had lost a parent prior to me, I had no earthly idea how bad it hurt, but now I do.. So please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss... and I must be honest, it's kind of neat to know that your friends call Cam, I've not ever known anybody that had the same name as me... for years I was annoyed at my mom giving me a name like Camela but now that I'm older it seems neat to have a unique name and one that a celebrity goes by makes it even more cool, especially bc its you... you're always smiling, thats awesome. Keep smiling and be strong, your dad will always look over you!!!!

205. She will never be the same. I lost both of my parents within two months from each other. Neither of them were sick. She was exercising and a blood clot went to her brain and killed her. My father was so sad, he refused to eat and died in his sleep. That was 1999 and there is not a day that I don't think of them. I feel like calling them when something good happen to me or when something goes wrong with my life.

Cameron, keep your father culture, cubans are very happy, hardworking and funny people. Those are traits I can see in you. Find solace in God, he is the only one who can aliviate your pain.
