Cops Called For Technical in Melo Assist?

Denver PD has launched an investigation into whether several officers acted inappropriately by giving recently-arrested Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony a ride to a hotel after his fianceé refused to come pick his ass up!

When you're popped for DUI in Denver, the law says cops take you to detox or release you to a "sober, responsible party." After the bust, cops took Melo to a local hospital for a blood test. The CW2 reports that's when they called his baby mama La La to come get him -- she said no way, Jose!

Instead of taking him to their other option -- detox -- a sergeant personally took Anthony in his police cruiser to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Denver, where he was staying.

A police spokesperson says the officer went "above and beyond through a personal relationship" and there wasn't "anything wrong" with what he did. But it doesn't end there ...

Another cop drove Melo's $130,000 sick silver Mercedes to a safe place -- a police parking lot -- so he could come back later and pick it up. What's supposed to happen is the car is towed to an impound yard, but apparently the cops didn't want Melo's ride to get vandalized.

A rep for Anthony could not be reached for comment.

UPDATE: TMZ spoke to a spokesperson for Denver PD who explained Carmelo's Mercedes was moved for safety, because it was on a highway and not a street. And as for La La not picking him up from the pokey? She claimed she had child care issues.

31. It just shows many police are decent people. My moronic husband was popped for DUI last summer, about an hour from home. It was pretty late, around 2 am, and the officer who called me told me I would have to wait until the paperwork was completed before I could go pick him up. By the time they were finished, it was 3:30 am, and the officer called and let me know that he didn't want to inconvenience me, so would drive him home himself. When he arrived, he also offered to drive me to the truck, so that I could drive it home and avoid it being towed. Super nice man he was! We certainly aren't famous, (but I am kinda cute;) so he was just going out of his way to be considerate. There are a lot of policemen who really are just doing a job, they deserve respect for dealing with a whole lot of dangerous idiots on a daily basis.

32. Why all black guys have to be called thugs and gangsters. Yall sicken me. Everytime there is something posted about black people they have to be called thugs. So, i guess if your black and you get pulled over for a DUI your a thug, but if your white and get pulled over than what does that makes them? I don't know, but yall need to stop with the sterotypes, its getting old.

34. If he was a well known city, state or federal employee he would have been treated the same way. In fact any well known person would have been treated this way. When you have money that is what makes this country go around. Dump La La
I sure hope got a pre-nup.

39. Look everyone in life makes mistakes. If he takes this he can learn from it and maybe he won't do it again. Its not about showing special treatment, its about helping someone out of a bind and making them better.

40. I guess most of you guys are bored and instead of writing an educated or civilized post you chose to write the crap that I have read so far. How did Carmelo become a thug? Is a DUI the new requirement for "thug-hood"? Wow ... If a police officer has never given you a break then, it's your fault for breaking the law and he/ she chose to punish you. However many of us have ben given breaks ranging from a broken tail light to excessive speeding all the way up to DWI/ DUI. People would have been just as upset if he were to have been given a free pass while pulled over for jay-walking. Why do we hate people who have money ? That is a question to all who read this.
