It's a Fat World After All

Small World?Disney is sayin' they're renovating the "It's a Small World" ride at Disneyland to introduce new characters, but what they're really trying to do is trim the fat ... people.

The boats on the ride are the same old ones when the ride first debuted at the World's Fair in 1964. Here's the prob -- 44 years and 20 billion Mickey D burgers later, America has become all blubber, and it's effing up the ride.

Two hundred pounders and up were populating the boats, which increasingly began bottoming out and stopping the ride dead in its tracks. And anyone knows you can become certifiable listening to "that song" for more than three minutes.

It became too embarrassing to escort passengers to dry land, explaining that the girth was just too much to bear.

Disney previously has denied the renovations have anything to do with weight issues.

You are delusional and blind to your own ugliness. Your fat ass is disgusting and you are laughed at all the time. Can't you hear the snickers? (no, because you are too busy eating them.)

36. Dallas, if you're going to poke fun at someone, you'd better have the hide to get it back. You don't say bean's and apple's and couch's for goodness sake. I'll bet you don't know how to use their, there and they're either dimwit.

39. Please do not blame the Walt Disney Corp. for doing this. (Disclaimer: I own some Disney stock.) They are a company whose goal is to make profit. They want to serve their customers, so that they return and spend more money. It may be true that they have more overweight, larger customers (adults and children) than they they typically had when the rides were designed many years ago. It's not in their interest to pass any kind of moral judgement, or to send a message that people should just lose weight. So, they will redesign their rides to meet the changing needs of their customers. (Just like airlines, restaurants, and other businesses will.)

Something bugs me, though. Having waited in those lines at Disney World, I sure would hate it if rides (or theaters for shows) were redesigned with larger seats, but fewer of them. If fewer people can go through a ride, or see a show, then that means a longer wait to get on. But, I have faith in Disney's ability to engineer their revamps so that there is no problem. Like I said, they want all customers to just be happy, That's how they got where they are today!

40. Linda, you are truly a sick individual. Read my comment on the first page. I didn't make fun of anyone but, obviously I have pushed a button with you! Do you have an obese child? Is that what this is all about?

For the love of God, I put an apostrophe in the wrong place! Get over it !

41. I'd rather be a little overweight then being so skinny that everyone can see my ribs. One persons definition of sexy is different than other peoples.I think people with fake orange tans and baboon looking collagen lips are disgusting, but some may find it sexy.

45. Dallas, your comment was fine. I think to insinuate that potatoes are the problem, then to spell it incorrectly is outrageous, that's all. Potatoes are not bad for you. They have a place in a normal diet. You also said "kid's" instead of kids. If you want to nitpick it should be people who instead of people that. However, in a generalization, it's generally accepted. I feel very sorry for obese children of obese parents. It's hard to fault them and the habits they learn early in life are hard to break.

I am not obese, nor are my kids. However, I studied nurtrition and biology in college and have always exposed them to healthy lifestyle choices. We stay fit and active as well. At a certain point in your life, you make the choice to eat right, exercise and take it a day at a time.
