It's a Fat World After All

Small World?Disney is sayin' they're renovating the "It's a Small World" ride at Disneyland to introduce new characters, but what they're really trying to do is trim the fat ... people.

The boats on the ride are the same old ones when the ride first debuted at the World's Fair in 1964. Here's the prob -- 44 years and 20 billion Mickey D burgers later, America has become all blubber, and it's effing up the ride.

Two hundred pounders and up were populating the boats, which increasingly began bottoming out and stopping the ride dead in its tracks. And anyone knows you can become certifiable listening to "that song" for more than three minutes.

It became too embarrassing to escort passengers to dry land, explaining that the girth was just too much to bear.

Disney previously has denied the renovations have anything to do with weight issues.

61. Well I am obese myself I eat very well but could benefit greatly from exercise. I do agree that people deserve equal rights, however there are so many variables.
I do not think that rides should be made larger for people, I think there are safety issues when you start allowing people who are over 250lbs on rides. Say a rollercoaster was to break down halfway up a hill, how would someone so obese be able to get down the stairs or a ladder. Of course it could be a man that is 6'0" and 250 and be able to help himself and others, or you may have someone who is 5'2" and 250lbs and car barely walk up a flight of stairs.

This should be societies problem, if you are obese and cannot safely fit on a ride do not go on it. You will ruin it for other people and just embarrass yourself. If you cannot fit in one seat on the plane do not fly or buy 2 seats. These are consequences to being larger. It may not be a great feeling but if its not enough motivation to get some weight off then what is? Its not like everyone has to thin just get to a weight where you can walk without a motor cart that is really intended for the elderly or handicapped. Get to a weight where you can fit in booths, rides, etc.

If we made everything larger then the smaller people and children are not going to fit safely in rides anymore.

I know that there are health conditions that affect weight but to a degree. So you have a thryoid problem...does that mean you have to be over 300lbs and wheel around stuffing your face with corndogs NO. Start slow walk around a bit cut back on crap food, its nasty anyways.

I like the comment from the 105lb lady,,,,, perhaps I will join a gym. I always wonder if I am repulsing the people who are in shape with my presence

62. We stopped going to Disney World a few years ago. My son is head injured and in a wheel chair. On our last visit there were so many fat people in wheel chairs and scooters going through the handicapped entrances of the rides that we may as well have waited in the regular lines.

63. How many of you brainless asses that are insulting fat people are the same ones going to McDonalds and stuffing your own faces with Big Macs, fries, and Cokes like there is no tomorrow? Just keep on stuffing. We need to keep drug companies in business.

64. I really appreciate the encouraging message the 105lb woman (sorry i forgot your name) left directed towards me. It brought tears to my eyes. I also think Natalie gave a very insightful smart comment, she made great points. I feel terrible for the lady who posted about fat people in scooters holding up the handicapped lines for rides and here she is with a legitamely handicapped child who NEEDS to use those lines. That is terrible! I never thought of that, to think of a child with limitations who is there with his family to try to have a fun day and that fat people are causing him to have to wait and wait and disacouraged the family from coming back, well its just terrible.

This is why I dont try to push my fatself onto these rides etc. I hang back and take the pics of my skinny family on the rides like a good fat girl. :/

65. Hogzilla-- amazing that you can admit that. You will inevitably die at a young age and that is sad. I say that not to be cruel but because I lost my beloved sister in law a few years ago at 42 because she was overweight. I miss her tremendously and always wonder if she wanted to change her life. You need to find the motivation to do better for yourself, I'm sure you have family that loves you dearly and would love nothing more than to see you lose weight and be able to have a happier life. I sat back in complacency, never knowing how to approach my sister in law, I just wanted her to know how much I loved her and that I wanted her to be around to watch my kids grow up. Your obesity not only affects you but your family who may be sitting back in silence fearing the inevitable if things don't change.

66. I go to Disneyland alot. And the fat peeps go to Small World alot because they can sit in the boats and they are easy to get in and out. Same thing with Pirates. You don't see a lot of fatties on the rollercoasters.

67. OMG! i cant believe how many ignorant people there are out there!! being obese is a conditon that yes can be monitored with diet and exercise. but what about those people that work 12 to 18 hours a day or who have to work 2 or 3 jobs to to make ends meat in this messed up ecomony we live in. if u are fat or skinny u have to eat and sometimes u cant eat as healthy as u may want to or let alone have have time to get in exercise. Maybe the problem with america isnt fat people but the situations that make people fat to begin with. Maybe America should help them out like they do drug addicts and prostitues instead of bashing them. if Americans can pay for so many people to go to rehab then why cant they set up a program to help obese people go to the gym. or give them rebtes on grocerys because they are more expensive to buy then to get a couple of items off the discount menus at a fast food place, So please as a commuinity stop being so hateful im sure ur not a perfect as u may think u are!!!!
