16. It's healthier to gain a moderate amount of weight when pregnant, than the usual 70lbs or so American women often gain. Just because the rest of us (myself included) used pregnancy as an excuse to at last eat with abandon, does not mean it's the healthiest thing to do. Shedding 70lbs later is much worse for you, while watching your weight within limits set by your doc while pregnant is the better choice.
