91. For those wondering why the women are so skinny, here is why:
They live the "law of consecration." All money is given to the church and then the church gives back what it feels appropriate to each husband. He in turn gives money to his wives. If you aren't a favored wife, you get less money or no money at all. Picking food out of the garbage may become necessary for those unfavored wives since children must still eat. Welfare money is money and given to the husband as well as any other money earned. The man is the LORD of these women.

Carolyn Jessop was in the community and is great at giving information. She escaped some years ago with a daughter that returned and is living in the Hildale/Colorado Springs area.

The FLDS is VERY different from the modern LDS church. And the person that claimed she was treated badly, I am sorry for her experience but it's not just the mormons that do that but every other group. I have had some wonderful and some terrible experiences with many different religions and races but don't judge them but the individual. Nope, I am not mormon I left ages ago after having converted, but not because of the people but because I just don't believe the way they do. When our son was in the hospital it was the mormon friends that made dinner, washed sheets and cleaned up our home so that we could spend more time in the hospital, months worth and many times. I would and did vote for Romney because we need a president that knows business with our economy tanking. That is his greatest asset. Again folks, they are two religions as different as day and night.

I was just about to post about the social service leeches that they are... you covered it quite well. Additionally, when they marry in Temple, the service is strangely similar to a Masonic ceremony... 3 guesses as to who was a Mason before finding the tablets... yup - Joseph Smith. Howzabout that!!

Also, "services" to good Mormons can be halted when they don't tithe a proper amount... you could literally think your daughter is getting married in Temple next week, then BAM!! Their Bishop will call and say something to the effect of: "You're past due in your tithing... sorry, gotta pay-up, or girly-girl cannot marry In Temple..." happened to a friend of mine.

94. These women and children have been raised this way since birth, so they know no difference. It's like a Muslim child raised to hate America. It is all they know. Oh, and I hate the Mormon religion and its lies, and the Muslim religion and its crazy ideas. That also includes anyone who tries to suppress the truth... including all of the Liberal wacks who say all religion is bad and should be dismantled. Why can't everyone be like me. If I ruled the world everything would be fine. And there would be no more gossip websites... and French. Au Revoir, y'all!

95. TO the person commenting on temple marriage and tithing removing a daughter's right to marry in the temple: What a pile of you know what!! If the girl could not marry in the temple, it was because SHE did something she wasn't supposed to do, not her parents. Her parents would not be able to see her wedding in the temple, but that is not what you said. I suspect a big fat lie was intended by a non-mormon and never been mormon. I am ex-lds and I was temple attending.

As far as the relationship to the Masons, there are some similarities in action but if you look at the big picture it is completely different. So sorry, that is another lie. Sheesh I am normally the one considered ANTI-lds. But, I do hate a purposeful lie.

I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. The Mormon church demands 10% of your gross income.

In fact, each December there is a mandatory "tithing settlement" for each Mormon family with the bishop who gives you hell if you are not current on paying tithes.

97. In Alabama you can marry at 14 with parental consent. How is this any different, with the allegation being that 16 and 17 year old girls are marrying?

In manistream society when someone is accused of molesting a teen, the younger children are not taken from the non-molesting parent. Yes, this cult likely is guilty of marrying off underage girls. Keep in mind, however, that in 36 US states underage girls CAN marry with parental permission. This is a witch hunt, taking dozens and dozens of children from homes with no evidence that THOSE children have been abused. It's a witch hunt that y'all are cheering on because these women look brainwashed with their dour faces, dull dress and hair, and because their religion is not YOUR religion.

U.S. govt sharpshooters killed, from long range, a woman holding an infant while standing unarmed in her the doorway of her home at Ruby Ridge. Y'all probably thought that was neat, too, because "She was a freaky stepford mom!"

Regardless of how weird these people's religion or lives seem, focus on the point: Is there sufficient evidence that abuse of the children who were removed from the homes occurred? No. There's proof that their older teen siblings, with parental permission, are marrying (something legal in 36 states). If that's their biggest crime, then Lynn Spears should be jailed for allowing her 15 year old daughter to be impregnated. Where is the proof that the specific children taken from these women have been abused?

98. Mormonism is an extremely manipulative cult which seeks to look good to outsiders while exploiting the deluded members.

Image is everything to them. That is why you have people writing in and defending the Mormon church.

I have been to the temple and know that Joseph Smith plagiarized the Masonic ceremony - for which he was eventually killed in a prison shootout in Carthage, Illionois.

H In fact, he made the masonic plea of distress as he lept from the jail window in order to aafe himself.

99. The issue is not the LDS church but the FLDS church which is a COMPLETELY different organization.

Does the LDS Church ask (not demand as someone posted) for a tithing of 10% so that you can go into the temple? Yes, but I know many people that pay tithing and are not LDS. So, big deal tithing is in the bible which states that you are stealing from God if you do not pay tithing.

The FLDS broke off in the early 1900's because a group of old men liked being married to multiple wives. The LDS Church ended polygamy over 100 years ago. Get over it! Even in countries where polygamy is legal, LDS church members MAY NOT be in polygamous relationships, that is not the case for pretty much any other namebrand christian religion which do allow for polygamous unions without question. If you are going to spout, at least know some basic facts. The FLDS church on the other hand actively practices polygamy and consanguity which has resulted in some inbreeding issues including fumerase deficiency leaving an iq of 25.

100. Thank goodness there are people here who are willing to set things straight! I was getting kind of ticked off when reading the comments added by people who just seem to want to stir things up.

The bottom line, if you ask me, is that in all religions, there are crackpots and rude people, and, of course, Mormons are not different in that respect.

But it's ridiculous to assert that we think our underwear is "magical" in some way (I can't remember who posted that, but it's pretty ignorant and idiotic a comment!) or that we advocate polygamy (we don't!) . In short, I'm going to echo David's comment and put it in all caps for the people who are too lazy to add or read anything that isn't caps-locked :

MORMONS AND FLDS========= NOT THE SAME!

101. 94. "These women and children have been raised this way since birth, so they know no difference. It's like a Muslim child raised to hate America. It is all they know..."

Or like American children raised to think anyone with the right headwear or skin color is a terrorist, raised to hate people who aren't of their culture, color or religion, and raised to blindly pay taxes that support murderous dictatorships then spout the Stepford like mantra "They hate us for our freedom" when victims of our blood money protest. Ignorance and brainwashing isn't the sole domain of "others," but is instead equally rampant in American culture.

103. Like there is one man alive on this planet with enough stamina as well as finances to support more than one woman. Get Real. Women are built for continual action, we don't wear out. Men on the otherhand, have to work at there 10 minutes of action.....
LOLOLOLOLOL

Seriously, you gotta feel at least a little bad for these women and children on the compound. Its called religious brainwashing. They don't know any better. Would anyone with a clue get caught dead wearing those outfits, or doing there hair that way? Give these sad women there children back already, and send social workers in to help them. Where is their freedom?

104. This isn't about religious preference. Young girls are being forced to marry and are being raped. This is acceptable to some people?

Posted at 7:29PM on Apr 16th 2008 by Kelli

105. By the way, "tithing settlement" is such that you sit down with your bishop and go over your yearly tithing record, to talk about any financial difficulties you might be having, and to square things up when and how you might be financially able. We consider it to be less between you and your bishop and more between you and God.

So.... just in case anyone got the idea that our bishops are demonic overlords of Satan and that Mormons are money-grubbing social-service-hounds, I thought I'd put that straight.
