PETA to Morrissey: To Sirloin, With Love

PETA is full of bull -- or at least they like hangin' with people who are full of it.

The animule rights organization called us out for calling Morrissey out yesterday. You see, vegetarian Morrissey, who wrote the song/album, "Meat is Murder," chowed down at STK -- a hip steakhouse in West Hollywood. PETA says it's ok for hard-core veggies to eat at a steakhouse because -- and we quote -- "Steakhouses have some of the best vegetarian food around." Oh yeah, gotta love that Kobe cauliflower! Maybe Morrissey gets a pass 'cause he's a believer.

PETA big cheese Ingrid Newkirk tells TMZ she's got no beef with steakhouses -- she's been to the STK in New York herself.

We're wondering if it's ok for Pam Anderson to shop for spandex at Fred the Furrier...

UPDATE: Michael McGraw from PETA just called us to say he was upset by our story, adding, "PETA is fine with vegetarians dining at steakhouses. It's just like shopping at stores like Whole Foods that also sell meat, because it's good to show proprietors they can make money by selling veggie options." Um, OK. What about getting mashed potatoes at KFC?

31. If you are against torture, you don't go watch a torture movie just to eat the popcorn.
You veggies love the smell of cooking meat? How could a self proclaimed animal lover watch his/her friends eat dead animals in front of them? You are either for animals or not and Peta doesn't want humans messing with animals in any way.

32. This post is a perfect example of why I hate people. It takes a big person to sit behind a computer and call people names, doesn't it? At least PETA does some good for animals. It's more than any of you can say.

33. Clue4U - If you think this is newsworthy you need help. With all of the injustices going on that are not being covered by the media, you want them to have a segment on Morrissey eating a non-meat meal at a steakhouse on the nightly news? Someone obviously is in dire need of a life.

34. 23. It was news that he ate at a steakhouse? I am a vegetarian and a PETA member, and have eaten at many steakhouses, when I have family get togethers. What is the big deal about that? Unfortunately, there arent too many restaurants that serve just vegetarian meals. Would it have been news if he ate at an Italian restaurant? You know, they serve meat there as well.

Come on TMZ.

well then when they are in the steakhouse, they should own up to their reputation and have the balls to throw blood on the chefs! or maybe they would be afriad that the food preps would spit on their spinach if they did such a thing. they seem to have no problem crtisizing other people who aren't a part of their "cool club". but if they are involved themselves or you are like pam or morrisey, "its ok". double standard.

its the fact that peta continuously slanders people and equates their practices with meat to their character. it the same as judging someone's entire character by their creed, sexual preference, etc. and that is an EXREMIST way to go about proving one's point.

not only do they seek to break the character of the people who believe different from them, but they seek to ruin their reputation (sharon stone, olsen twins, etc) with sophomoric caricatures and ridiculous protests. if they were really considered a charity or philanthropic group, they would get their point across with LOVE.

heres a quote for you, peta. something to keep in mind from the good old bible (im sure you guys just LOVE the bible):
HATE THE SIN, NOT THE SINNER.

peace.

35. I really wish PETA would change their mandate. PETA would gain a lot more respect if they simply went after corporate (read: large scale) abuses of animals instead of throwing paint on the random fur coat wearing person.

CLEARLY, throwing paint on someone walking down the street has not stopped the sale of fur coats, nor has it stopped the torture of those animals who once wore those furs.

Protesting the use of LAB rats is not helping either, PETA! Instead, ask Ms. Newkirk to protest the FDA's decision to not allow human drug testing. The drug companies could find thousands of volunteers who are dying for a cure, yet the FDA prohibits such testing.

Don't you see, PETA, you're misguided. Protest the FDA. That, in turn, will stop the abuse of lab animals and get drugs to people who need them much faster.

I will say that I watched PETA's video on the subject of Glue Traps tied to a ceiling rafter at a warehouse store with birds stuck to them. Well, that got me to discard all my glue traps. I got a cat instead. She seems to like chasing mice. Say Peta, which is worse? A mouse dying a slow death in a glue trap or a mouse dying a slow death by cat?

Just stick to corporate abuse.

37. #32 PETA has received plenty of media for their activities so why not this? Did I say we should not have any news except PETA news? Is there some reason that instead of giving us the latest on Brittney Spears, we cannot point out they hypocrisy of an organization that manages to net donations from lot of hardworking people? Those people might deserve to know this information.

I have a little trouble even taking your comments seriously #32, having read them on TMZ. If you're not getting enough real news, then might I suggest you surf on over to Reuters?

38. Clue4U - I was questioning what you said, not PETAs position on cow farming. I am not stupid nor obtuse, but if you feel the need to start name-calling to get your invalid point across, then go ahead. I'm glad it makes you feel better, being the big internet bully and such. Go back and turn on Fox News and enjoy the rest of your day.

39. PETA could and should be an organization dedicated to ending animal cruelty...instead its just a bunch of extremists who make the entire issue into a joke. They do far more to harm the issue of animal rights than to help it.

Posted at 2:09PM on Apr 16th 2008 by did I say that out loud?

40. People - who cares what PETA does? How does it affect you? If you want to think they are hypocrites - GO AHEAD... Those of us who know what they stand for and all of the progress that they have achieved for animal rights know differently... This is not a perfect world. For those of us who choose to not eat living things that were killed against their will, there aren't a lot of options out there for us. We eat where we can - and who cares what they serve there? We go to bed at night with a clear conscious that we did eat something that died a horrible death... I know that you selfish people are afraid of the strength of PETA and think that one day you are going to wake up and won't be able to put on your precious fur or eat your artery clogging meat - but that isn't all that PETA is about. They are trying to stop the SUFFERING of animals. And as a "compassionate" human being - you shouldn't want animals to suffer either. T

And there is no choice here - it's not that you chose people OR animals. With the technology and advances that we have today - we don't need to torture animals for our selfish needs. There is a whole world out there fighting to help children - didn't you watch Idol Gives Back??? For those of us in the minority that choose to go against society and not eat meat and stand up for the defenseless - we don't need your criticism on top of it all. If you don't like PETA or animals - fine! Go on with your life! Stop getting so defensive and angry - it just makes you look like you feel guilty.

And TMZ - I am done with your bias reports against PETA... I was a subscriber - but not anymore... You guys suck...

41. TMZ needs to get a life. This IS NOT a story worth merit! PETA is a wonderful orgainzation, you bone-heads!

How do you know what anyone here does for animals?

I take in strays dogs and cats, and find them homes. I adopted several of my pets from animal shelters and have a dog I found abandoned as a puppy in a shopping center parking lot. I donate my time and money to a local golden retriever rescue center, make the occasional puppy mill raid, which often requires driving out of state at a moment's notice. I have been caring for unwanted animals and strays, much to my mothers chagrin, every since I was a child.

I'm willing to bet there are many other posters here who do the same

However, I will continue to enjoy steak, grilled chicken and seafood.

And you, I can only guess, will continue to make broad generalizations to posters you know absolutely nothing about and have never met. How many animals have you helped and in what way?

43. Once again, People with a Cause, being ridiculed by people with no Cause. THAT is the ultimate hypocricy.

Posted at 2:19PM on Apr 16th 2008 by Yes you did

44. I don't care if vegans/vegetarians eat at steakhouses...but what about the PETA people (Pam Anderson, for example) who drive luxury cars with leather interiors? Hyprocrital, much?

Posted at 2:19PM on Apr 16th 2008 by Axel

45. AJA, you are doing the same thing, arguing with the posters who are arguing and then you are telling them to get a life. You MUST belong to PETA then.
