PETA to Morrissey: To Sirloin, With Love

PETA is full of bull -- or at least they like hangin' with people who are full of it.

The animule rights organization called us out for calling Morrissey out yesterday. You see, vegetarian Morrissey, who wrote the song/album, "Meat is Murder," chowed down at STK -- a hip steakhouse in West Hollywood. PETA says it's ok for hard-core veggies to eat at a steakhouse because -- and we quote -- "Steakhouses have some of the best vegetarian food around." Oh yeah, gotta love that Kobe cauliflower! Maybe Morrissey gets a pass 'cause he's a believer.

PETA big cheese Ingrid Newkirk tells TMZ she's got no beef with steakhouses -- she's been to the STK in New York herself.

We're wondering if it's ok for Pam Anderson to shop for spandex at Fred the Furrier...

UPDATE: Michael McGraw from PETA just called us to say he was upset by our story, adding, "PETA is fine with vegetarians dining at steakhouses. It's just like shopping at stores like Whole Foods that also sell meat, because it's good to show proprietors they can make money by selling veggie options." Um, OK. What about getting mashed potatoes at KFC?

76. clue4u and aja... you both need to play nice.

you would never say these things to each other if you were in person. what makes it any different if you type instead of speak it?

if you want to prove a point to someone, respect them. that is your best bet. kill them with kindness. oh AND LOGIC.

77. PETA is NOT a worthwhile organizations. They allow millions of dogs and cats to die every year while chasing after some father taking his kid fishing. They are all about the publicity and money and could give a rats ass about actually accomplishing anything worthwhile.

78. Fathead - you're right. Looking back on some (not all) of the things I typed (only the ones directed at Clue) were right along the same lines as the awful things they were saying. I'm not stooping to that level. I did apologize, although it was sarcastic. :) I still stick by being a proud veggie and being proud of everyone who steps up and DOES SOMETHING! Go Veggies!!!

79. #75 You are most wise :)

80. Minnie Mouse said "Say Peta, which is worse? A mouse dying a slow death in a glue trap or a mouse dying a slow death by cat?"

Dunno about PETA - but having lived with many cats, I'd say most mice prefer the cat!!! Really, an experienced cat is a much more "humane" killer of rodents than humans. Glue traps, snap traps, poison all can keep the little critters stressed out for hours or longer (the snap traps don't always kill instantly), what a horrible way to die. An experienced cat will do the deed in a few seconds after a very short chase, cleanly and efficiently. I remember coming home once and letting the cats inside with me - heard a rustling in the kitchen, one cat bolted toward it and a few seconds later came trotting back with the corpse in her mouth.

The "playing with their prey" thing is only for early training purposes, either being taught by mom or self-teaching if they're orphans. Once they know how to do it, they're lightning fast and no slow death is involved. And even better for a rodent-lover like me, the cat is likely to deter the rodents just by being in the house. I've lived in apartments where all my immediate neighbors had mice running amok but we had none (much to the cat's dismay). We occasionally get an exploratory mouse or rat, but if they survive then they don't come back... Very Darwinian, I guess - survival of the smartest.

81. Who cares?? Better than eating people.
Animals were meant to be eaten.
Am chewing on a raw steak right now.

82. "Choice" (or is that USDA Choice?), sorry I didn't respond sooner, but unlike you, I was actually outside of my house for awhile. I'm certain that everyone is quite impressed with your 'cause'. Now how would you like your steak, Britney-brain?

83. So if you're Christian, you should only enter fully Christian establishments.... You get where I'm going with this.? You can't apply that kind of mentality to anything in life.

If you go to a restaurant that speciliazes in pasta, should I not order a salad or eat the fish? That mentality doesn't make sense.

I will say this for Peta people, they are real passionate about their beliefs and very determined. If only we could gather that much energy and passion and apply it to all areas of our lives, I think we'd be better off.

Regarding other people's comments. Let's say that I support a charity that helps kids get after school tutoring. Would you tell me to stop wasting my time becasue there are children living homeless in the U.S. So, what if I then supported a charity that helps homeless kids in the U.S., would you then tell me to stop wasting my time because kids are dying in Africa... At what point do you make one cause more important then the other? As long as people are doing good and caring, it doesn't matter what charity/organization the help is going to.

84. Sorry TMZ, you are absolutely wrong here. No one is a hypocrite for eating in a place where there is meat too. I'm a vegetarian, my husband is not, and yes, we do go to steakhouses where i find vegetarian food for myself, even if it is not my ideal place.

85. All vegetarians are hypocrites. What gives them the right to discriminate against vegetables in favor of animals?

But they don't care about that. All they care about is feeling morally superior to everyone else.

PETA are typical. The second-in-command over there is a diabetic who takes insulin (an animal product). She says that other diabetics should NOT take insulin, because you have to kill animals to get it, but for HER it's OK to take it because SHE needs to go on fighting on behalf of animals.

Which, I guess, means killing them all and putting them in a big freezer because PETA "isn't a shelter".

That's the convoluted logic you get from terrorist groups. They don't care that they don't make any sense, because they're all about power and control, not abstract reasoning.

86. P.S.

There ARE sensible people and sensible groups who advocate treating animals kindly, while not trying to dictate whether people should eat meat or not. THE most annoying thing about vegans is the way they seem to think they are the ONLY people who care about animals or don't want to see them mistreated.

Save your money for genuine, non-terrorist animal welfare organizations.

87. I have a challenge for those meat eaters out there. How about going to an all Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant with a friend who's Vegetarian or Vegan for all those times we [Vegetarians] have gone to Steakhouses to please you [meat eaters]. I bet none of you would do it. Prove me wrong. Be open-minded.

Oh and I guess I'm a hypocrite because I'm friends with meat eaters. Well let's put it this way, there's not only an advantage to having a need for vegetarian options at all restaurants, but it's also important for us [Vegetarians] to mix and mingle so non-vegetarians can see up close, that our lifestyle is not so unusual and might be interested in trying it out.

Saying vegetarians are hypocrites because they eat at places that serve meat is like saying that a Jew is a hypocrite for buying a Christmas gift for a friend who is Christian and vice versa (a Christian buying a Hanukah gift for a friend who is Jewish).

TMZ, you didn’t put much thought into this did you? And the rumor about Morrissey going into the steakhouse was wrong.

88. Tolerance and coexistence????? Please??

I'm a vegetarian and I buy meat for my husband.

It isn't hypocritical to refrain from trying to force the rest of the planet into your thinking - it is living in the real world.

89. Jee, I'm sorry the veggies haven't taken over and built enough veggie restaurants for you. Sometimes you have to sacrifce convenience in order to stand by your convictions.
If you want to be self-righteous, fine, but don't complain because the world doesn't cater to your whims.

90. Great, TMZ. Now all the gun toting, Commie hating anti-Peta hillbillies will come out of the woodwork.

Why not pick on someone who deserves it?
