Katie Couric Gets Moonves'd

CBS honcho Les Moonves did his best to squelch rumors that Katie Couric was jettisoning the anchor chair, but there's a story behind the story.

Moonves, Couric and Sean McManus (CBS News Prez) addressed the troops in the newsroom, saying Katie was there for the long term.

Nice, Les, but we know Katie's reps have already been talking to CNN and others, because she's frustrated with her current gig.

As we first said, she'll definitely be there through Election Day. We're hearing earliest exit now is after the inauguration.

35. Okay, I don't really watch network news, but when I do, it's Charlie Gibson. I would NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER watch Katie Couric. NO INTEREST whatsoever! She really should go! YUK!

36. I don't know what CBS was thinking when they hired perky little Katie to do a hard-boiled newscast. She's completely out of her element. She'd be better at some light fluff like Entertainment Tonight, or maybe some tabloid trash like the TMZ TV show.

37. You are all to tough on Katie. How "interesting" is the news anyway???? How interesting can you make it?? OF course it is boring cause the news is boring and there is no other way to present the news. It is all bad, sad, and boring. Maybe the news is made worse with her.

39. Katie has never been likeable to me. I used to be a huge Today show fan. She used to always say "anyway" which sounded dismissive and inmature and after a few years she had the rest of the cast saying it as well. I doubt they even realized what they were doing, but it used to drive me crazy. When I heard Gidget 2.0 was going to a serious news program I was reminded that upper management doesn't always know what they are doing. I just can't see her being successful in any role on TV. Her and Les obviously thought Today was all about Katie and didn't realize that it's the whole team that drives that show.

40. Katie needs to shut her spoiled mouth, enjoy the millions she makes annually, and be glad she even has a job! I've never liked her and am glad she's gone from the Today show. Meredith is Great! and more pleasing to the eyes and ears. As far as CBS goes? They get what they asked for by letting Dan Rather go and then crapping on him. He was Excellent and I miss him. Since I can't have my man Dan, I'll take Brian Williams. Brian is kind, trustworthy, and funny. Katie? Never. No more. She needs to find a job behind the scenes--just like Kathy Lee Gifford.

41. The only reason Katie got that job was to be in place for this election. The Clinton's needed a insider they could use to help with all of their spining where Hillary could jump on the News at a drop of the hat and spin, spin, spin. The trouble is that Katie is no worthy newscaster and Hillary is not Presidenial material. The Hill may have fooled those voters in New York to get elected, but nobody else is buying her and Bill's crap.

42. I love Katie Couric!!! She is a tremendous journalist and ideal for the evening news. She's better than stiff Charlie Gibson. Moreover, she is attempting to reach out to us--the young demo--by broadcasting her evening newscast on the internet. Stop being so mean to her-- give her a chance!

HE WAS MARRIED WITH CHILDREN. JULIE CHEN IS HALF HIS AGE AND WORKED FOR HIM. HE PROMOTED HER
TO EARLY SHOW NEWS ANCHOR AND GAVE HER THE BIG BROTHER GIG. UNBELIEVABLE THAT A CEO CAN GET
AWAY WITH THIS. AFTER HE AND CHEN MARRY - HE LURED JULIE CHENS BIGGEST COMPETITOR (KATIE COURIC)
TO CBS. HIS WIFE IS STILL IN 3RD PLACE ON THE EARLY SHOW. YET, JULIE CHEN STAYS BECAUSE
SHE IS LES MOONVES WIFE. KATIE COURIC, ON THE OTHER HAND, WILL BE GETTING THE AXE.
