Why is everything being made into a BLACK and WHITE issue? This country is always going to have people that are narrow-minded in their way thinking and the beliefs that they have. I am open-minded enough to know that not ALL whites and/or blacks are prejudice or a racist. You can not judge one person solely on the actions of another. Foxxy Brown had numerous times to get her act together. This young lady has what many yearn for in this country....a little MONEY. But the reality is SHE assaulted someone and she had to pay the price. Maybe the actuality of serving time and being behind bars is a wakeup for her.....but time will tell.
Now about LL, NR, and PH......I do feel that these young ladies did get off a little easier than mainstream society would have.....but HELLO.................this has been going on in the US forever. And it falls more into the lines of HOW much money you have and your STATUS. If these ladies didn't have a dime and were little nobodies....they would have served time and nobody would have cared. So can we all just get along?

Let's see... Nicole Richie can drive in the opposite direction of traffic --high and with possession--and serve 82 minutes. Paris Hilton can DEFY the law on numerous occassions and serves 26 days. Roman Pollanski can rape a 13 year old girl and not be prosecuted. An L.A. police detective can LIE on the stand and not receive any jail time for perjury. Yup, Blacks still get screwed in this country and if anyone thinks that racism and prejudice is not an issue anymore in the U.S.-- you are either completely sheltered and naive or just plain ignorant.

There is a lot of back and forth about whether or not Nicole RItchie is black, and a lot of "Brandy's black and didn't go to jail" and "OJ is black and didn't get convicted". This just goes to show that the whole point is being missed.

As others have said in their posts, its wrong to attribute the actions of a select few to an entire race. One of the problems with race in America is that the actions of minority individuals are accepted as the normal actions of all people of that minority. When Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie and whomever else were booked for DUI, no one said "Wow, see how all of the white people drive drunk?". I don't think that a real conversation about racism and treatment of different racial groups can be held until we all stop thinking this way. Individuals represent themselves; not their races. To that end, the fact that one or two black celebrities were not punished as they should have been does not prove that black celebrities in general are not punished more harshly.

As for the issue at hand, statistics will tell you that in general, black people get harsher punishment than white people, but I don't think a parallel can be drawn to celebrity because the nature of the crimes are different and the numbers of black and white celebrities being punished at all are very low. As a rule though, I think we can all agree that those with social status and money will get better treatment than the rest of us.
