"Idol" Reject Claims, The Show's Unfair!

Carmen RasumsenNot all "Idols" are treated the equally -- apparently some aren't even given a fighting chance, at least according to former contestant Carmen Rasmusen.

Rasmusen was on "Idol" back in 2 aught 3, going head to head (pun intended) with Clay Aiken. She told the Deseret News, most finalists were given "minimal voice coaching," but Clay's coach was on him like white on rice. To add insult to vocal injury, they had the same coach. Carmen says she threw a Hail Mary and hired her own coach, with pathetic results.

She went home in sixth place, to lead a life of obscurity and bitterness.

62. I am just surprised that she would pick on Clay, I agree with what someone said earlier, he was there to work hard and probably asked for the help. But the one she should complain about was Ruben because he was the chosen one, from day one and it didn't matter how hard Clay worked or anyone else, Ruben was going to win, don't get me wrong I liked Ruben on the show but he never grew always sounded the same to me. Actually I think as far as winners go, once you are in the top ten you can make your own career if you have the talent and the drive. it an opportunity of a lifetime and they are in the drivers seat, guess Carmen just crashed and burned!

64. IS DAVID COOK AN IDOL RINGER?
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

I have a test today plus other things that will keep me busy...I have to leave out earlier than usual so I am going to reprint an article I found this morning that has annoyed me. And before any psycho-cookie monster accuses me of "hating on Cook" again keep in mind that I didn't write this piece. The source URL for it is here. My comments are in the bold text and the reprint is in dark blue.

How much of a ringer is American Idol contestant David Cook? His self-released album, David Cook, is on the charts and the current season isn't even over. Cook's 2006 CD, "Analog Heart," has been the number 1 downloaded album all weekend on Amazon's MP3 service. It even beat Mariah Carey's E=Mc2.

Back when Cook auditioned in Omaha for American Idol he was identified as a bartender who happened to be a friend of Chris Daughtry, a now wildly successful post-Idol graduate.

It sure didn't seem like Cook had a big career already — albeit regionally. He'd already appeared on a couple albums with a local group, and there was some vague mention of a solo album that he'd made himself.

But if Analog Heart is now being offered officially to proper downloading services — and not on just mysterious indie platforms — then Cook has to be behind it. That's a first: an album out from an Idol contestant before the contest has concluded. What if he doesn't win?

More importantly, what happened to American Idol simply being a competition for totally unknown or undiscovered artists? What fueled the fantasy for the audience was the concept that anyone — the waitress down the street who had a nice voice—could suddenly become a superstar. It was one thing when Carly Smithson (nee Hennessey) was revealed to have already released an album five years ago. But for Cook to have one out now, I think, disqualifies him as a true competitor.

And P.S.: Isn't this some strange way to get around the American Idol contract for management and a recording contract? In the past, Idol contestants had to agree to be managed by 19 Entertainment and give BMG first right of refusal for their albums. But a digitally available album made before the show and released before the winner is known? Hmmm…Seems like that bartender from Omaha was smarter even than wily Simon Cowell.

Well this explains why Randy Jackson keeps saying that he is the only one ready to make a CD. BECAUSE HE HAS MADE ONE ALREADY. I don't care if its digital and in mp3 format. If I buy the whole album I can burn the mp3's to a disc and viola...I have a David Cook CD.

So how is this fair to the other contestents, especially the younger guys like David Archuleta and Jason castro. They are competing against, for all intents and purposes a professional recording artist. One can be a professional recording artist without having a gold or platinum album.

Now I know why they want Cook to win. If he wins 19 Entertainment and BMG are certain to make good money off of this guy...while signing Archuleta may be a risk...look at the Fanjaya's last year that have since faded. Given this information it sort of invalidates teh whole competition for me. This year is not a fair match up of unknown talent...we have someone who has an album out now going against a 17 year old that appeared on star search, recorded a few songs for fun...mainly the two he did with Merrick...and this is supposed to be a fair competition?

David Cook should be disqualified but he won't be...and the worst part is not too many people know about his album or the fact that he is more of a professional than just a bartender that can sing. A lot of people are under the impression that he is an undiscovered talent and these jaunts into the studio, to record the i-Tunes studio versions, is his first jaunt in the studio. I wonder how mant would vote for him if they knew he had an album out already and the reason he has the edge over the other contestents is because he isn't an amatuer...he is, indeed, a ringer whether intentional or not and to me the fact that he is even on the show has sullied my opinion of the competition as a whole.

I encourage everyone to reprint, at least, the article I reprinted..more people need to see this. Not that it will matter to Idol...the album has already been a topic on their forums and this guy is still in the competition and acting like he is this newcomer amatuer who just magically has the talent for producing good arrangements.

Now do you all understand why I don't like David Cook?

68. Ahhhhh - just yet one more Idol reject that drops Clay Aiken's name so it will hit Google alerts and tons of people will see it
Rigged? Sure Carmen, that's why Clay won.......(not!) Maybe he ASKED for help and was really working hard to do the best he could. Maybe he said "can we run through this one more time" instead of walking out after one run thru and then whining about it 5 years later!!!!

Don't keep trying to make excuses because you werent good enough....
