Mental illness isn't comedy. It's a tragedy. We should be thankful when it doesn't strike someone in our families.

Medication and therapy have come so far in the past few decades and I am pleased to see that it seems to be working for her, in conjunction with the conservatorship.

Just because someone is mentally ill and has a "fixable, manageable" illness doesn't mean that they are broken for life unless they choose to be. Sometimes it is difficult to separate the illness and their actions from the personality inside that is lost and suffering. To wish continued mental illness is harsh.

Alzheimers is an example. If it were one of my parents or grandparents who were running around naked in the neighborhood and were lost, it would be a sad thing if no one helped them and only used them as bait to get some good video footage to sell. Poking them with a stick and laughing and waiting for their next "lapse" would be undeniably cruel.
