Olympian Alleged Victim of Date Rape Drug

Olympian allegedly slipped drugOrange County sheriffs are investigating an alleged drugging of Pasha Grishuk, the biggest ice dancer in the world. Cops now tell TMZ the drug is GHB, commonly called the "date rape" drug.

The two-time Olympic gold medal winner attended a business meeting at the swanky St. Regis in the OC on April 12. Grishuk ordered a glass of wine at the table, which she briefly left unattended. After taking a few more sips, Pasha noticed a half-dissolved pill at the bottom of her glass. By the time cops and paramedics arrived, Pasha was feeling numb and ill. They also found a second glass she had been drinking from in the lounge and it had residue from a pill as well.

Jim Amormino, a spokesperson for the OC Sheriffs Dept. says, "The incident is under investigation and we are waiting for toxicology reports to come back."

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Former Olympic ice dancer Pasha Grishuk was drugged with GHB, a common date rape drug, during a business meeting at a ritzy Orange County hotel, a sheriff's spokesman said Tuesday.

Grishuk, who won Olympic gold medals for Russia in ice dancing in 1994 and 1998, was attending a business meeting at the St. Regis Monarch Beach on April 12 when she began to feel ill and numb, sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.

While eating dinner, she spotted a partially dissolved pill in the bottom of her drink. Investigators later found another dissolved pill in the bottom of a drink she ordered in the hotel's lounge.

Amormino says toxicology tests that came back Tuesday were positive for GHB, but it wasn't immediately clear how the pills got in Grishuk's drinks or who put them there.

"How somebody was able to do that, I honestly don't know, but it appears that somebody, for whatever reason, attempted to drug her," he said.

GHB, or gamma hydroxy butyrate, can cause breathing problems, loss of consciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration labels GHB a "predatory drug" that can be mixed with alcohol to reduce resistance from a victim before a sexual assault. It is also popular with teenagers at raves and is sometimes used by bodybuilders for its anabolic effects, the DEA said.

The 36-year-old Grishuk is a Ukrainian native who now lives in Los Angeles.

49. it is unfortunate that all women have to be very carefull when they go out at night with their drinks. but how horrible that this even took place at the st regis. this should be another warning to all our female friends when they go out to keep track of their drinks since there are a ton of sick men out there looking to take advantage of them in this sick way.

50. Rape has nothing to do with sexual attraction and everything to do with power. It's the same as pedophilia that way. Forced sex is one way that one person can have power over another. And it's not only ugly men who use GHB. I remember a case maybe ten years ago where they discovered that a guy who had been named as most eligible bachelor in Massachusetts was convicted of using GHB. He was good-looking, young, wealthy and very few women would have said no but he still raped women because he could.

53. This just proves once and for all (and HOW MANY MORE TIMES are we going to have to point it out??!!) that women are safest when they stay at home! There no one can try to harm them. And they get to do fun things, like laundry and cooking! If a woman wants to go out in public, she will be treated just like a man! So if she doesn't want to be, she should STAY HOME!!

54. Rape is meant to intimidate. Especially strong women (by covertly inducing drugs) and young inexperienced females. Coercing them by creating a frenzy of penis myths, and informing them that penetration is soooo satisfying and essential for their maturity. That way they are 'more than eager' to let it happen. But as long as 'it's ok', and considered normal, women won't put an end to what is happening to them, daily, and not in small numbers. Ejaculation is for impregnation only. It is not a milky elixer of esoteric love that is best when swallowed.

60. Look-I never cared for her as a person due to her behaviour in the past-willingly, and wantonly interfering in the marriages of others But no one deserves to be poisoned. I am sure the Hotel's camera's will have captured something and the culprit will soon be caught.

And those of you who are saying Gritshuk is ugly-I think that again you are letting her personal behaviour in her private life affect your judgement as to her looks. She is a pretty woman-anyone with eyes and good vision can see that.
