D.C. to L.A. -- Brother, Can You Spare a Babe?

Pam AndersonWhat in the name of Foggy Bottom is going on in Washington, D.C. this week? First it was Shakira, then Amber Tamblyn ... and now Pam Anderson is down on Capitol Hill on behalf of PETA. Don't they have any hot chicks in the nation's capital?

Pam was down at the Department of Health and Human Services to hand-deliver a PETA science report on outdated animal tests performed by the U.S. government.

Memo to D.C. -- if Shauna Sand makes it to the Hill, you can just keep her.

61. 1) That is a cute thought and old one about using criminals for testing. I am not a fan of criminals ,but the law, and people, and the AFL-CIO and organizations like that, including relgious ones, would NOT ALLOW THAT.
2) lame, I like that-PETA-PEOPLE FOR EATING TASTY ANIMALS.
3) I believe animals should be treated humanly even when used in research ,NECESSARY and important medical research.
PETA is a militant and ignorant organization. Instead of calling out people for using animals for food, clothing and medical research, get to people for having domestic pets spayed , neutered, and cared for properly. That is SINFUL!! Wrong. Cruel and unesscessary . Educate the public about care for domestic pets.
4) Ummmm, does Pam not realize that all of her plastic surgery was done on animals first. Does she realize that her boobs which have gone from various sizes over years ,were done on animals. Add Heather Mills, another fame junkie, tothe mix. The operation she had and all medicine and everything else for her leg was tested on animals. If Pam's sons or Hethers' daughter(whichis her gold $$$ mine) ,gets a cold let alone and God forbid anything more serious, it al lteted on animlas. WAIT ,GOD forbid any of you PETA people and Pam, have had any loveds one really sick ,serious illness like heart surgery, etc., ,but meds, and operations are still tested on people after animal testing. Sometimes the answer is still not concrete. Ever hear of placebo? Meds that are placebos?

66. A skanky bimbo like Pam Anderson only tells me that PETA is not a trustworthy, reputable organization. I have found them to be worthless extremists that twist "reports" to their own ends (generally donation-inducing publicity). Pam's endorsement certainly doesn't certainly doesn't lend credibility to them - this IS a woman who can't even make marriage decisions for herself and obviously does not take into consideration the impact the skanky things she does with her life has on the lives of her kids.

67. 43. So, children are starving in dying all over the world, our soilders are still at war AND this Bi*ch is worried about a bunny? Hmmm...

There really are some appalling comments on this topic. Like the one above… Do people assume that if someone cares about the welfare of animals that they don’t care about anything else? I think you’ll find that people who have compassion for animals tend to have compassion for most other things. Yes, I donate to animal charities but I also donate to cancer charities, children's charities and Oxfam etc. I also sent donations to help those affected by the Asian Tsumani and Hurricane Katrina. Just because I care about animal cruelty doesn’t mean I don’t care about such things as poverty; genocide; child abuse; climate change to name a few. We can all do our bit to help people and animals in need. There is no need to pick one or the other.

Those attacking PETA are missing the point. I don’t agree with everything they do but it is undeniable that they have achieved a great deal in terms of animal welfare. If you don’t know what animal tests they are campaigning against then I suggest you do some research. I for one think it is ETHICALLY and MORALLY wrong to mutilate an animal just so we can have a mascara that can make your eyelashes appear 40% longer. If anyone thinks there is nothing wrong with the photo that Pamela Anderson is holding then I would question what you do care about. We’re all probably wearing clothes or buying toys etc that have been made in sweatshops. Why are people going to the movies and eating junk food when there are children starving in the world? Why are people planning holidays abroad when people are dying in Iraq. Why are artists making albums and movies when there are SO many horrific things happening every second of every day? Can anyone answer? If we had to think about ALL the horrible things that happen every day we’d go mad. Pick something you care about and do something. If you don’t want to then have the decency not to attack people that do.

70. Article I found on the web:

PETA's Dirty Secret

Hypocrisy is the mother of all credibility problems, and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has it in spades. While loudly complaining about the "unethical" treatment of animals by restaurant owners, grocers, farmers, scientists, anglers, and countless other Americans, the group has its own dirty little secret.

PETA kills animals. By the thousands.

From July 1998 through December 2006, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed over 17,400 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals." That's more than five defenseless creatures every day. PETA has a walk-in freezer to store the dead bodies, and contracts with a Virginia Beach company to cremate them.

Not counting the pets PETA spayed and neutered, the group put to death over 97 percent of the animals it took in during 2006. And its angel-of-death pattern shows no sign of changing.

Year Received† Adopted Killed Transferred % Killed % Adopted
2006 3,061 12 2,981 46 97.4 0.39
2005 2,165 146 1,946 69 89.9 6.74
2004 2,655 361 2,278 1 85.8 13.60
2003 2,224 312 1,911 1 85.9 14.03
2002 2,680 382 2,298 2 85.7 14.25
2001 2,685 703 1,944 14 72.4 26.18
2000 2,681 624 2,029 28 75.7 23.27
1999 1,805 386 1,328 91 73.6 21.39
* 1998 943 133 685 125 72.6 14.10
Total 20,899 3,059 17,400 377 83.3 14.64

* figures represent the second half of 1998 only
† other than spay/neuter animals

On its 2002 federal income-tax return, PETA claimed a $9,370 write-off for a giant walk-in freezer, the kind most people use as a meat locker or for ice-cream storage. But animal-rights activists don't eat meat or dairy foods. And during a 2007 criminal trial, a PETA manager (testifying under oath) confirmed the obvious -- that the group uses the appliance to store the bodies of its victims.

In 2000, when the Associated Press first noted PETA's Kervorkian-esque tendencies, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk complained that actually taking care of animals costs more than killing them. "We could become a no-kill shelter immediately," she admitted.

PETA kills animals. Because it has other financial priorities.

PETA rakes in nearly $30 million each year in income, much of it raised from pet owners who think their donations actually help animals. Instead, the group spends huge sums on programs equating people who eat chicken with Nazis, scaring young children away from drinking milk, recruiting children into the radical animal-rights lifestyle, and intimidating businessmen and their families in their own neighborhoods. PETA has also spent tens of thousands of dollars defending arsonists and other violent extremists.

PETA claims it engages in outrageous media-seeking stunts "for the animals." But which animals? Carping about the value of future two-piece dinners while administering lethal injections to puppies and kittens isn't ethical. It's hypocritical -- with a death toll that PETA would protest if it weren't their own doing.

PETA kills animals. And its leaders dare lecture the rest of us?

71. Is all that makeup she has to wear tested on animals? Why is she? Just stay out of the wedding chapels, delivery rooms, and off TV.

72. When the day comes that it is no longer legal for a mother to walk into a clinic and kill her baby, then i will worry about saving the animals. But I guess that is too political for celebs to involve themselves with.

Posted at 10:29AM on Apr 28th 2008 by What really matters

73. Good for Pam. While I may not agree with everything PETA does animal testing is horrible and should be banned, especially for use in cosmetics. I have done plenty of research on this topic in high school and again in college and it is horrible and it is indeed outdated. Not to mention there are better and more effective tests that are available that don't involve animals. And worst of all, even if it hurts the animals, they can still put the products on the market. Thank you...I use cruelty free products. I'm not a vegetarian or anything, but this is one thing I am big on.

74. PAM-Wearing your big fake ANIMAL TESTED ON boobs is JUST LIKE wearing a FUR coat!!! Thousands of animals were tortured and died for your boobs to exsist and that you have made all your money and fame over! You are such a hypocrite! Your boobs are NOT any different that a pair of leather boots, MAKEUP, hair dye, belts, fur hats and coats! An activist should dump red paint all over your boobs like you guys do the fur coats. TAKE THEM OFF AND KEEP THEM OFF!!
PETA is NOT about humane treatment of animals and thousands of animals have died as a direct result of thier criminal activities. They are about removing animals from our zoos and do not believe in any interactions such as pet ownership or horse shows. How many animal shelters has PETA built in your nieghborhood? Send your money to true animal WELFARE shelters, not ANIMAL RIGHTS organizations. There is a big difference.
