Disney Bites the Photog that Feeds It

Ever since Mileygate broke yesterday, Disney's been pissing on Annie Leibovitz and her shoot with Miley for Vanity Fair -- at the same time that Annie's been on the Mouse payroll for a couple years now doing their fancy "Dream Portrait" series.

Leibovitz has enlisted everyone from a (very young) Abigail Breslin to Julie Andrews, David Beckham and Beyonce to pose for her in the big-budget shots, designed after Disney stories. But when it came to their biggest and most bankable star, MiCy, all of a sudden they got collective corporate amnesia?

Disney said Annie "manipulated" the situation with Miley.

46. My thinking on this from a business (Disney) point of view is that the parties involved have just become a liability.

47. Anne Leibovitz is one of America's greatest living photographers. Milly should be pleased that Ms Leibovitz took the time to take her phots for Vanity Fair. I have seen the photos of the shoots and it is obvious that Milly's personal and artistic interests were well served and guarded. I gain to say that ms Milly shows more skin in a bikini at the pool than in the shot that reminds one of a formal dress that is semi-backless. To have Ms Milly saying that she is upset with these images, suggest she is not ready to appear in the real world. The idea that the Disney execs are upset at the publicity they know their "upset" has caused, is laughable.

48. I saw the pictures why does Mylie have to show her stomach when laying across her dad? She could have pulled the shirt down. Anyone here Hilary Duff comment on the pics. She was totally dis'en Mylie for them saying she should have thought about it. If Mylie wants to pose like a big girl then she needs to start taking responsibility for her actions. I just saw her Myspace photos and those are just nasty and sluty. Doesn't she know about child predators? Or that its dirty old men who look at them.

49. I was in London when all the problems Annie caused with the Queen of England hit the fan....Annie is very strange and overrated, Her "art" in photography has bothered me for well over 20 years...

50. That dude totally looks like Howard Stern. What's so bad about his pictures? I read somewhere that he was the last person to photograph John Lennon before he was shot.

51. The photos on her myspace page are worse than the Vanity Fair ones. THOSE are the ones Disney should be in a tizzy about. The VF photos were intended to be artistic, and she's not showing anything that in our culture would be deemed inappropriate. I mean, a bikini shows more than that.

52. I don't see the big deal with these pictures. I think that they are artistic and they are in no way pornographic like everyone seems to think. Myley's parents or people should have spoken up at the time. They have no right to cause an uproar after the fact.

53. Shesh.. what is the big deal.
Only in puritanical, sexually repressed America would this even rise to the level of a news story. The photos are not racy. They are not pornographic. They are, relatively speaking, very tame and tasteful. And, dude, AL is an icon of photography, not some sick pervert.
The only reason this story has gotten any ink is because of our nation's bougerois hang-ups about sex. Get over it.

54. In the state of California where these pics were taken her parents could be taken to court if they are deemed to be sexual in nature. Miley is still underage! What was Billy Ray thiking??????

55. "This woman" and "She" is Annie Liebovitz, arguably one of the greatest photographers of our time. She doesn't "get off" on these "lil girls". She doesn't take these photos in her private studio or without the knowledge and supervision of parents, handlers, agents and the magazine. She gets paid - by Vanity Fair and by Disney to takke the photos THEY and the subject WANT to have taken. Does anyone recall the furor over nude photos of a 10 yr old Brooke Shields being exhibited in a gallery in 1998? How about her playing a prostitute in Pretty Baby when she was 12? The countless "suggestive" photos taken of her at a very young age? What makes the Cyrus situation any different other than the fact that she is 15, works for Disney and it's 30 YEARS LATER? This is all a marketing ploy - a game - there is no such thing as bad publicity to these people.

56. the Clampetts were fine with the pics until the hand that feeds them - DISNEY took offense.

The power went to their heads thinking they could do the shoot without Disney's guidance and approval.

Disney frowned and suddenly, the Clampett's acted dumb, like the pics were photoshopped to something else from what they approved.

Im just sayin.......

57. This is the biggest bunch of BS....................Annie Leibovitz is one of the most respected photgraphers around and Disney knows that. They also were aware ogf what kind of rag Vanity Fair is. Personally I think it is all a PR stunt..............Disney thought it was a great idea at the time but, when the word got out about the shoot and Vanity Fair started posting some of the photo's on their site all hell broke out. If no one had responded the way they did towards the photo's, we would not be discussing this!

58. Annie Leibovitz needs to tell Disney to kiss her ass!

59. at the end of the day, I don't think the pics were racy. a little "advanced" for a 15 year old, but I think she is a girl w/strong morals and beliefs that she can handle it, and that's what makes the difference. no one can say she is a bad role model for one photo spread and then turn their back on her, because I’m sure some of you, as parents, have done things in your life and/or childhood that would not be particularly "role model" material for your children - it's about growing and learning. PARENTS are children’s first role models, and others second. if your child is the same age as this girl, then you should be able to explain the shoot, and difference between this and posting their pic on YouTube. if your child is too young to understand, than they don't have to be reading Vanity Fair anyway - so who's really to blame? a 15 year old girl in an adult industry posing tastefully and well done for an adult magazine, or the people that are too immature to handle it?

60. Chris Hanson, you're an idiot and your shows are ridiculous. I suggest you take a few journalism courses. In the meantime, *anyone* who is the subject of an Annie Liebovitz photo should consider themselves as privileged. Disney "The Rat" is wrong. Both of these (the photos circulating) are exceptionally beautiful photographs. People seem to looking for monsters at every turn. There's nothing evil here, only ideas of censorship.
