Billy Bob's Son Alleged Sex Crime Victim

Willie ThortonLaw enforcement sources tell TMZ Billy Bob Thornton's son is at the center of a criminal investigation -- the alleged victim of "unlawful sex."

Here's what we know. Willie Thornton, age 14, was dating a 22-year-old woman. Her ex-boyfriend apparently became jealous. Sources say the ex called the LAPD, informing them his former GF was having sex with a minor.

Law enforcement sources tell us there is an "active investigation" into the crime of "unlawful sex" -- translated, an adult having sex with someone under 18. We're told Willie is cooperating with the sex crimes unit. And, we're told, cops have also interviewed Billy Bob.

BTW, the picture was taken four years ago.

48. Ted Casablanca at E!Online had this weeks ago in a blind vice mention. He also had the good sense to keep the names quiet. Way to go TMZ.

49. Everyones' complaining is going to turn TMZ into a superfiscial, sanitized, disney-esque site. TMZ will lose its edge. Everything was so great, no more Britney on the minute reporting, and you guys are going to ruin it.

50. Oh yeah, the woman is an up and coming actress.

51. It does not matter if it is a male or female victim. If it was a 14 yr old girl, people would be saying put the guy in jail. Shame on you TMZ for posting something like this. A 14 yr old child CANNOT consent to sex with anyone! His name and picture should never have been shown. This type of reporting disgusts me. Again, SHAME ON YOU!

53. Annie - you are an idiot. The law states 14 year olds can't concent to sex with an adult. Has something to do with the fact that they are not mature enough to make such grown up decisions. Yes, a 14 year old boy can be a victim. You watch to much TV. TMZ should be assamed for printing the name of an under age child involved in such a situation. You are wrong.

54. Laurita publishing the name and picture of minor involved in a sex crime is NOT edgy, it's immoral and criminal! You seriously need to talk to a professional, and I hope to God you have no children!

55. This pic is when the boy is 10. He's probably 14 going on 30 now, just like his Dad. If it even happened as described.
Surprised the names are published here.

56. Guys you went way over the line with this. He's a damn minor, you're suppose to protect him not disclose his name and image. If it were my kid I'd be taking you to court. This site has turned to nothing but a trash site.

57. Wow. It's a shame that a Time/AOL-owned web site isn't more responsible. Victims who are minors are kept confidential for a reason, especially during an investigation. Although Billy Bob is a public figure, his child is not. He's not Miley Cryus or some other well known star (not that if he were a star it would excuse TMZ running the photo. Minors are still minors.) I would have thought that a no-holds-barred web site like yours would have enough sensitivity and knowledge of journalistic practices to do the right thing here. It's not too late. Take it down. Maybe celebrities don't have expectations of privacy, but surely their innocent children - who just happen to have them as parents - do in cases of anything to do with a potential crime involving a minor. There are two classes of people the media in practice don't identify our of responsibility. Victims of sex crimes such as rape, and juveniles involved in crimes. In this case, both categories are coming into play, making TMZ doubly responsible for a breach of ethics. It's called standards guys. Get some.

58. Question. Why is it that charges could be filed as "sex with a minor" opposed to "child molestation"? Not sure if there is an age statue to define the two, but curious if anyone knew.

59. Just when I think the turd that is TMZ cannot stain the porcelain bowl that is "new media" any further, you go to new excremental depths.

Congratulations on your scoop. Now, please swirl down the pipe.
