Ling Ling Dead Dead

Ling LingTokyo's most famous zoo critter, Ling Ling, has taken the panda express to that great bamboo plant in the sky.

Officials say Japan's only giant panda died of old age in his cage yesterday. At 22, Ling Ling was the equivalent of a 70-year-old human.

61. I dont believe this. If he was dead it would be all over the news here in d.c. At least i saw him once.

62. Who is the editor for this post? I thought TMZ was about Hollywood and the "thirty mile zone"? Isn't this about celebrity gossip and LA news? I think Ling Ling deserves a little dignity consider he spent his hold life imprisoned. If you want to tastefully post this, at least change the headline.

63. Why do people mourn over the dead of a panda, but eat beef and pork and chicken? Why do they fawn over cats and dogs, but wear snake skin and fur? Don't get me wrong! I'm not some bleeding heart PETA tree-hugger, So far as I'm concerned, if it tastes good or feels warm, then there's plenty of justification for killing it; I just get tired of the double standard. The same people who are moaning about this panda's death, probably didn't think twice about the opposum they ran over last week, and only got upset about the skunk they hit because it stank up their car. I personally don't care if a person chooses to love animals, or to eat them. I understand and support both sort of peoples' feelings... but be consistent. If you're crying over this bear, then you'd better be a vegetarian; otherwise, you're a hypocrite. Personally, I like the taste of steak and BBQ ribs too much to let some cute panda make me question my feelings.

64. Emily B! This Ling Ling is not the one from the National Zoo in DC. Our DC Ling Ling died in 1992. The DC one is the famous one really. Unless you live in Japan or are into Japanese stuff the Ling Ling who just died-you never knew existed until now.

65. That panda looks (looked) old. Not sure when that picture was taken, but he didn't look so hot.

Posted at 4:49PM on Apr 30th 2008 by Is this a joke? If so, no one is laughing.

69. It always amazes me how people make heartless, callous comments about how funny the headline is. You must be ugly and angry humans to think the death of any beautiful creature...animal or human, is something to joke about. TMZ...stick with the Lohan cracks and leave poor Ling Ling alone. Rest now nature's angel.

71. just because the head line is funny doesn't make it funny that an animal died nor does it make people who find it funny "ugly and angry humans" calm down anna spoke.

72. I have to agree that I'm disappointed in the callousness and insensitivity shown by TMZ. Whereas tasteless jokes at the expense of celebrities don't exactly show the warm fuzzy side of red carpet journalism, it comes with the territory of fame. Making light of the death of an animal (let alone an endangered one) is almost soulless. Shame on you.

73. Damn TMZ!...Just give us the freakin article and keep the lame titles and comments to yourselves! You'd swear there was a 10 year old writing these things sometimes!
