Modine's Use of the N-Word Just Ain't Wright

Matthew Modine hurled the N-word for all to hear on "The O'Reilly Factor" last night. He was making a point about Reverend Jeremiah Wright and then mentioned his daddy, who used to refer to blacks as uppity N****rs. The N-word was bleeped, but what Matt is saying is plain as day.

106. I am disappointed in Mr. Modine's use of that derogatory term. I do not care if it is used by African Americans or anyone else, I find it demoralizing and unneeded.

109. I'm not calling you a racist. Personally, i don't care what you believe, as long as i don't have to deal with you in my immediate life. I was just making light of fact, that your logic is skewed. Bias. Whatever. You can't save everyone.

110. believing that a person is not "allowed" to say or do certain things because of their skin color is one of the many definitions, or ways to view racism. yet the people who scream racist at the drop of a hat are the ones who are enforcing this "rule". and it's funny how those same people come to this site, voice their opinions and dislikes in regards to racial slurs directed at their own race, and in the very same sentence, they spew forth racial slurs of their own. no one will respect you or even TRY to understand how you feel as long as the hypocrisy continues. it's your choice.

113. Yes 'me'------- I'm the one who's crazy. Because I initiated racial oppression on MYSELF......... Your the type of dumba** that truly confuses me. I don't even know if you make any sense to yourself. I'm NOT screaming at anyone about who's racist and who's not. That was never the point of my posts. I originally made a comment on this post, because i felt that the words that Mr. Modine's father used, was inherently racist. Not to mention that 73% of TMZ views agreed that it wasn't such a big deal. I personally believe the comment was insulting to ALL people of color because no one in this day and age should be fine with being referred to as an "Uppity Ni**er. Thats what's insulting, defining someone as an Uppity_Negro. People are ok with this term, because they believe that there are people who fit this description. TMZ commentors are NOT my issue. My issue is with the crazy racists in positions of power, who perpetuate "traditional" conservative ideas like these.

114. Modine represents the failure of our nations public school system. I would bet he was educated in the public system. Someone prove me wrong.

115. From the sound of the tone in his voice, I didn't hear any malice in what he said.
Must be a slow news day.

116. cdd----this is getting old. if you didn't feel like there was some truth to my argument, a truth that you're outwardly trying to prove wrong, you wouldn't continue to debate with me, about not being a racist. seems like somethings eating you up inside. AWESOME, your black friend, who you've known since you were 5 (like that means anything) is proof enough that you are completely free of racialized thinking. i commend you for being so much more than yourself, and overcoming the views of our privileged society. is that what you wanted to hear? don't prove it to me. prove it to yourself. Once again, my post was directed towards racist commentors/general public, if you aren't racist, then you shouldn't have thought twice about my post.

118. "118. believing that a person is not "allowed" to say or do certain things because of their skin color is one of the many definitions, or ways to view racism. yet the people who scream racist at the drop of a hat are the ones who are enforcing this "rule"."

The last statement makes no sense. When reviewing ANY form of past or present racial oppression.

vex.

119. i thought you were talking about self sustained racism. But if you meant, people who share the same ideas (separatist values), who deny their actual racist intent; while all along enforcing their rules of societal normalcy. I think i get what you're saying. My mistake. But now I'm just confused on where you stand. Once again, i guess i really don't care. Goodnight.

120. EXCUSE YOU Matthew Modine?? Listen to what you are SAYING, you basically called him an "uppity n----r" YOURSELF. There was no point in bringing up your father's own racist remarks in the context of the conversation, and then you proceeded, NOT to distinguish yourself from that, but use that to express how you felt the Rev. was acting as well. And it's shocking that more people are not appalled at what you said, and if that's not how it was intended, the utter lack of tact. You owe the public an apology.
INcredible, and another reason actors should be seen and NOT heard (outside of films, that is).
