Kevin GageKevin Gage, the actor who played Waingro in the movie "Heat," was arrested for drug possession in Annapolis, Md. yesterday.

Annapolis PD tell TMZ they found Gage in the act of smoking a hand-rolled marijuana joint after they were called to the scene of a loud party. He was cited and released on his own recognizance.

Gage previously served 2.5 years in a federal pen for growing marijuana. He was in town to film an independent movie that wrapped production on Tuesday.

31. Ya know, when kids can buy meth at their elementary school, arresting someone for smoking a joint is pretty ridiculous. Priorities, anyone??

32. I know Kevin personally -- he is a great guy. A decent family man, a good friend, an excellent character actor, well liked and respected in the industry. The comment that he "served 2.5 years in a federal pen for growing marijuana" doesn't mention that he and his partners were growing MEDICINAL marijuana, in full compliance with California state law, and with full knowledge and consent of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the SF city police. They were located a few blocks from the police station and had their alarms wired to the police just in case REAL criminals tried to steal the pot. Kevin Gage's sister died of cancer, and marijuana had been very good for her pain and nausea in the last months, so Kevin was convinced this was a good thing. John Ashcroft decided to send in the Feds to crack down on California growers -- never mind states' rights when it's something that Bush & Co didn't want the states to allow.

I was very sad to hear about the arrest. Smoking a joint at a party was a dumb move for sure (yes Kevin you know better!) but hardly a serious offense compared to all the real crimes committed these days. If you want to know more about Kevin as an actor, check out his website http://www.kevingage.com/ and especially the link to the "Comments" page at http://www.kevingage.com/articles/comments.php where directors and others talk about how they respect Kevin and why they like working with him.
