Miley Cyrus Grounded by Disney?

181. Um, back to the topic that TMZ is writing about here ...

Many of you folks are imagining things that aren't there. You seem to think that Disney is well on their way to giving Miley the boot simply because she isn't going on this red carpet walk, and some of you are going off the deep end in your reactions to this.

Actually, Miley's upcoming concert is still on, as is her movie release later this year. This missed red-carpet thing is simply a temporary measure to keep her out of the spotlight for a short time until this media feeding frenzy dies down.

Our country has the attention span of a 5-year-old with ADD, and soon, there will be some new distraction to work us up into a completely different mania. Then, Miley will resume her public appearences and her career will continue on track, and hardly any of today's rabid critics will notice, or even care.

So take a pill, people ...

You raise some good points, but keep in mind that nothing that any of us post here is going to change how lots of parents in this country are reacting to these photos.

No matter how unremarkable the backless photo is to you, millions of people look at that picture and recognize it as a pose that has been used for centuries by painters and photographers to depict post-lovemaking intimacy. The amount of skin that is being shown is not nearly as relevant to these people as the "bedroom" look that is being portrayed.

Many parents who are concerned about the messages that their children get in the media have allowed their kids to watch Hannah Montana and develop an interest in her character because by their standards (which I realize are not yours), she is 'squeaky clean" and the things about her that their children emulate have not been objectionable to these parents. Now, with the backless photo that is sexually suggestive to many of these mothers and fathers (and to a lesser extent, with the other one where Miley has her head on her dad's lap, which also is upsetting to a subset of them), they are turning away from Hannah Montana as a "safe" franchise for their children to support.

This can hurt Disney's profit line, and it's why that company issued a condemnation of the Vanity Fair photo shoot and is temporarily pulling Miley out of the spotlight.

Whether you agree with these parents' reactions or not, they are real, and Disney is concerned about them. It's too early to see how much business the Hannah Montana franchise will lose over this, but you can be sure that Disney is watching this very carefully, and that they will have no qualms about adjusting their corporate priorities if they see any kind of significant downward trend in their Hannah Montana profits.

Let me get this straight…. Billy Ray is pointing the finger at
Vanity Fair and the photographer, along with Disney. I understand why
Disney is lashing out at Vanity Fair. Miley is thier most bankable
star. Both her parents were on the set and saw the pics as the day
went on. If that is correct, they had more than enough time to speak
up. Miley is young and was thrown into an adult business where she
needs people, her parents, managers, etc. , looking out for her best
interest. This is the most famous Billy Ray has ever been. Step
aside. You had your day. Start taking care of your daughter. You only
get one childhood

I totally agree. Billy Ray knew beforehand what kind of photographer
Annie Liebowitz is. She has a multi-decade reputation for taking
photos of celebrities which sometimes involve nudity or semi-nudity.

And no doubt he is equally knowledgeable about Vanity Fair, which is
known for its controversial pictorials which include Mike Myers
dressed as a Hindu deity, their cover with Keira Knightley and
Scarlett Johansson posing nude, their photo of Brad Pitt in boxers,
and their famous cover showing Demi Moore nude and pregnant.

Billy Ray and his wife Tish agreed to having their 15-year-old
daughter pose for this particular photographer in this particular
magazine. By all indications, they happily and enthusiastically
participated in this photo shoot, and had no problems with any of the
photos that were taken.

He and Tish apparently left the set before the famous backless photo
of Miley was taken, but Miley's grandmother and one of her teachers
remained. Neither of them appear to have done anything to prevent
that photo from being taken. Although Billy Ray and Tish deny any
knowledge of that photo, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't
have wanted Grandma to tell them all the details of what went on with
their 15-year-old daughter after they left the set, and it's equally
unbelievable to think that Grandma would have failed to mention that
photo.

No one in Miley's family raised the slightest protest about those
pictures, and they seemed to be perfectly satisfied with the results.

... _until_ Disney complained. Knowing that Disney is bankrolling
his daughter's lucrative career, Billy Ray and Tish are well aware of
the financial impact that Miley (and therefore, they) would suffer if
Disney stopped supporting the Hannah Montana franchise. Therefore,
Billy Ray then backtracked and started condeming the photo shoot, and
pretended that he had no idea about the backless photo.

I therefore place the responsibility for this whole affair and the
damage done to Miley squarely on the shoulders of Billy Ray and Tish.

187. 184. Its about time that Disney did something right! As a concerned mother, I am glad that Disney is realizing what she did was wrong. Yes, her Vanity Fair photo can be a bad judgement call on her behalf, and her parents' behalf, but showing her green bra is despicable. She is 15 and most girls want to be just like her. If its okay for Miley to do it, then our girls can do it too. Our children are growing up too quickly and need to have better role models.

Good point. With all the hoopla about the Vanity Fair photo, many of us temporarily forgot about the green bra.

Miley apologized for that incident, but then the VF thing came out. So she now has two strikes against her. She'd better be squeaky-clean-perfect from here on in.

188. The following excerpt is from a Miley interview in The Mirror today:

"There are guys who I like to hang out with, but I like to be the girl who no one can get. I think that's always hotter anyway. It's more attractive to be the person everyone talks about."

For a girl whose franchise targets the "clean entertainment" market, I wonder what the Christians in the Family Values crowd would have to say about Miley talking about being "hotter" ... especially coming on the heels of her VF shoot and the bra exposure video.

Well, Miley didn't really get "grounded". They just took her out of the limelight for a few days until the media feeding frenzy could die down. She's already come back into the public eye with her weekend concert, and much of her upcoming entertainment schedule is still on track.

If I'm not mistaken, Vanessa Hudgens also was temporarily taken away from the press for a few days, but then she came back.

Now, as for the boyfriends ... now that's a different issue, altogether. I think that Vanessa H. is HOT!!! I never imagined that I'd ever be fantasizing about being a Disney exec.
