"Lost" Diary -- Something Nice Back Home

LostHey, Daniel from TMZ here -- welcome to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

I've bemoaned the lack of "TiVo Moments" this season on "Lost" -- and now I'm wondering if the lack of cliffhangers has sort of killed the anticipation for "Lost" each week. I've looked quickly back at the last few weeks worth of endings and only the "I'm Ben's daughter!" ending really left you hanging. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I don't have the same "LOST IS ON!!!" feeling lately.

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. Ari and Lauren are in Costa Rica, so I am flying solo tonight. Let's roll ...

10:00 -- Jack isn't looking so hot. I didn't see this coming at all. Oh wait, yes I did! Hey ABC -- stop airing "Lost" promos! We know it's on. All you're doing is ruining it for us. Does anyone really think that someone watching the NBA Finals is going to stumble on a promo for "Lost" and say, "Hey that show looks good. Maybe I should give it a try"? Really?

10:01 -- Oh no, Jack fainted. Maybe he'll die. Oh wait, we already know he lives! I'll stop now, promise.

10:02 -- Jack flashforward time and it looks like we're getting "somewhat well-adjusted Jack" instead of "raging lunatic Jack." Perhaps this week will fill-in that blank a little bit for us.

10:03 -- Jack's got a lady friend -- and a kid. With Juiet, perhaps?

10:04 -- in an upset, it's Kate. I wonder where in the timeline we are here -- after Kate's trial, but before Jack goes crazy?

10:07 -- From the looks of things, Jack and Kate are playing house now, and have for some time. It's definitely post-trial. BTW -- Kate in a dress shirt? Thumbs up.

10:10 -- Whoa -- looks like Rousseau didn't survive. A little anti-climactic, a tad shocking and a bit disappointing. Great scene with Miles though. More of him, please.

10:12 -- Even if I didn't know Jack makes it off the island, I would never want to watch a show that kills off a main character because of appendicitis. Lame.

10:16 -- Juliet is barking orders around and Kate is standing around looking worried and all I can think is this: How did I ever think Juliet was hotter than Kate? It's not even close. Evangeline, my apologies.

10:18 -- Rose thinks the island made Jack sick on purpose -- to keep him on the island, perhaps.

10:19 -- Jack wants Kate to be in the surgery. Apparently he thinks at some point someone is going to be needed to be held at gunpoint.

10:20 -- Jack's back to seeing his dad. Sweet.

10:21 -- And Hurley is back to being crazy. Nice.

10:23 -- "You're not supposed to raise him, Jack." -- Hurley

10:24 -- "Charlie said someone is going be visiting you too. Soon." -- Hurley. Remember last week when I said anytime "Lost" does a scene that's longer than like 2 minutes it's always amazing? No exception here.

10:28 -- Farraday and company are at the medical station and Jin and Sun are back to speaking Korean. I missed subtitles. Only problem? I think Charlotte speaks Korean. Just a hunch.

10:29 -- Lawnmower Man emerged from the bushes with a sat phone and a warning -- HIDE. Sawyer and company smartly listen.

10:30 -- Seems the smoke monster spared all the bad guys from last week. What the hell did it do then?

10:31 -- "Looks like I'm gonna be your nurse." -- Kate. "Wouldn't the first time." -- Jack. Nice throwback to the premiere episode, when Kate sewed up Jack's wound.

10:32 -- Jack is camped outside Hurley's mental hospital. Looking for Charlie, maybe?

10:34 -- "Will you marry me?" -- Jack

10:35 -- "Yes." -- Kate

10:39 -- Have I mentioned lately how much I love Jin? He just totally bitch-slapped Charlotte -- in Korean -- and it was awesome. I want Jin to be my friend.

10:40 -- Jack appendectomy time. I think he'll make it.

10:41 --

10:42 -- Jack is really, really back to seeing his dad again. Next stop, Crazytown.

10:44 -- And here comes the drug addiction. Choo, choo! All aboard!

10:45 -- "Jack's never home before 8. I can stay about an hour." Kate to ... Noreen? I don't think so.

10:46 -- Two pills with a beer? Man, Jack is getting right to it, ain't he?

10:47 -- Ok, now Claire sees Christian holding Aaron. Is anyone NOT crazy this week?

10:50 -- Juliet gracefully stepped aside, basically giving Jack and Kate permission to screw. Classy move, considering she's a whore.

10:51 -- "I know you're awake." -- Juliet to Jack

10:52 -- Jack is obliterated and jealous. Things are about to get good.

10:53 -- What man in his right mind would "let it go" when he asks where his fiancee is? Not even Jack would let that non-answer slide.

10:54 -- WHOA!!! SAWYER IS ALIVE ON THE ISLAND!!!

10:55 -- And it's Claire's Aaron. That's now settled.

10:56 -- I think Jack can flush that Father of the Year award down the toilet now.

10:57 -- Claire seems to have followed Christian into the night and disappeared.

10:58 -- If that's the last we ever see of Claire again, that would be BEYOND awesome.

10:59 -- "CLAIRE!!!!!" -- Sawyer. Not as good as "WAAAAAALT!!!!"

Yet another high-level episode of "Lost" -- though I don't think I can sit through another week without Desmond. Feels like the producers know he's the man, so they spread out the Desmond love so as not to waste it. I thoroughly enjoyed this episde -- B for sure -- but I have the same odd feeling after this one that I have had after nearly every episode this season.

I used to judge each episode with the question, "What have we learned?" But lately, we haven't been learning much -- but the episodes have still been top-notch. I am not going to go note-for-note, but we haven't learned anything Earth-shattering this season. The biggest revelations have occurred off the island, and some would argue that all they have done is give away what will happen on the island.

Again -- don't take this as me bashing this season. I have loved it. But at the same time I am left to wonder -- has this season really accomplished anything in the grand scheme of things? Everyone has moved around a bit, the freighter people have landed -- but really, what else is there? I could probably explain what has happened this season in like a minute.

I have often argued there is a difference between a good episode of "Lost" and a GOOD EPISODE OF "LOST" -- last year's Nikki and Paulo episode being a great example." I feel like we've been getting good episodes, but not GOOD episodes. Hope that makes sense.

So my question to you this week is this -- as good as "Lost" has been this year, do you still feel robbed by it? I kinda do. 'Til next week ...

31. I know this sounds crazy, but I think Arron might be Ben coming back as a baby..it just looks like a Baby Ben to me. I know that wacko...but take a good look at that kid.

32. I think Jack knows that Arron is his nephew, because at the end he tells Kate "Your son?? You're not even related..." Or was he just trying to be a jerk? I just hope that Hurley isn't right... it would really suck if their all dead just haven't realize it!!! All in all I really love the show.

33. Guys i am a huge fan of LOST and I really don't like how every week ppl keep saying it wasn't good enough or that it didn't live up to "your" expectations. Each ep. has its own meaning and own objective. What do you want from the producers to answer every single question in one ep?? I watch each week and take the show for what its worth. I am happy each week because you do learn something every show and questions are being answered all the time. You just need to pay a bit more attention and do a lot of reading about previous shows, because lets face it so much has happened/ is happening its hard to keep up with everything. Also you can't compare one ep to the next becuase that is taking away from the show in general. I would love for all my questions to be answered in one show but its not going to happen.

With that said I love reading this post each week but even more I love everyone theory's, explainations, and guesses. Keep up with good work and I look forward to reading more about LOST in the upcoming days.

34. But Jack had appendicitis, how could she have made him sick? I could see how he may have wanted Kate there to watch Juliette because he doesnt trust her ..and yeah I guess she could have stayed in the room once he was knocked out

35. No, I don't feel robbed by this season. I have been enjoying it. This is proving to be a good time for those people who missed earlier seasons to catch up.

I just want to know where those 2 minutes are going? We now have 58 minute episodes.

36. Why is every one so concerned over who raises Aaron? Last time it was the fortune teller trying to get Claire to raise her own child, now apparantly Jack can't handle the task of raising Aaron. I hope there is a really really good reason for that. It seems like Ben has switched teams now.. ? Maybe he is really a good guy, I definiately felt sorry for him after they shot his daughter point blank, BASTARDS!

37. I don't know what show you are watching either Daniel. I feel we have learned A LOT this season and do not feel jipped at all. Time travel, more about smokey, Sawyer and perhaps Jin are alive on the island, only six leave the island, who they are, what happens to them after, etc...I think we are going to learn a lot of mythology related stuff next week and I can't wiat! Like Locke's 'chosen' status, maybe about jacob??, what the frieighters are really after, etc. Someone on another message board had an interesting theory...what if Claire is already dead, as in, died in the explosiion? maybe that is why miles was so intersted in her all the time and why he wanted to hold the baby.

38. So let me get the whole time travel thing right, correct me if I'm wrong. the plane crashes in 2003, and after only months on the island, years pass in the real world, which is why it is dec 2004 and 2005 when the boat arrives and everything there happens. So times passes slower on the island, right? and now I can't remember what month the hotel chick told Ben it was when he asked when it was? Anyone?

Also, I heard the show's plot is already written up to the end, in 2010, anyone else heard that? Not the exact storyline, but what happens. I already feel dread for the end of lost.

I don't think the dude they showed in the preview is actually Jacob. My fiancee disagrees, but still can't wait until next week! Anything with Ben in it is solid. And you know what pisses me off? The smoke monster didn't kill a single one of the dudes. I thought it wrecked them all. Ridiculous especially after Echo.

39. I totally forgot about Jin and how awesome that was !!!!! he totally manned up, finally !!!

Posted at 12:57PM on May 2nd 2008 by NYone

40. I think that Jack knows that Aaron is his Nephew. At the end when he said you're not even related to him, it kinda seemed like he knew he was Aaron's uncle....

Posted at 12:58PM on May 2nd 2008 by Lizzzzzzz

41. I did learn that Claire KNOWS who her REAL father is....but I don't think she knows WHO his son is...yet. (Also, saw a still on another site and it looked like Claire and Christian were in Jacob's cabin....)

This ep was phenom!

42. This is not a show that you can watch casually and say I wasnt satisfied with the episode last night ..if you are a true fan and in it for the long haul then every second of it is awesome, always!! I have never seen a show as carefully crafted as this and in time you will all get your answers, just enjoy the ride people

Posted at 12:58PM on May 2nd 2008 by NYone

43. Remember when Jack told Kate that "he's not even related to you"? Talking about her and Aaron. That HAS to be forshadowing that he will find out he is Aaron's uncle. A long time ago, we saw Jack and Kate at the airport in a flashforward and Jackwas saying they all should be back on the island. I wonder if that is before or after he and Kate get engaged. Love this show!!!

44. I liked the way Jack said that it was Sayer's choice to stay on the island, maybe others chose to stay as well.
The scene with Jin and Charlotte was AWESOME! Guess Sayid is rubbing off on him a bit.
I have a question: Who do you think chose to stay on the island and who is killed?

Posted at 5:53PM on May 2nd 2008 by zynfandel

45. This episode was scarey. I kept getting the feeling that a dead someone would pop up at any time. I think I actually attempted to cover my eyes when Jack was alone in his office changing that fire detector.

You are totally correct in your assessment of Jin. He is a super bad ass. His threat to Charlotte reminded me of his pre-island gangster days. I forgot that Jim was once hard core. He beats everyone.

I can't frickin stand Charlotte. Can someone just find out what she's up to and kill her already?

One more thing about Jin, I don't think he dies. I think he stays alive on the island based on what he said to Charlotte last night - to make sure Son is off the island. That leads me to believe Jin doesn't attempt to get off the island. And while Lost was on it's short hiatus and showing reruns with the pop blurb-facts, Jin's headstone said he died on the date that the original Oceanic flight went down. I think Son might have had to fake his death for some reason. Jin can't die. I love him.
