David Archuleta's Missionary Position

David Archuleta was asked by a fan this morning if he'd be going on a mission for his church, since he's LDS and all.

How making Paula Abdul misty-eyed counts as spreading the word of Mormon is beyond us.

76. It is a sad that our society has stooped to such low levels that we pick on a 17 year old kid that you know nothing about or his religion, if you really did then you wouldn't be showing your ignorance. And about Donny Osmond and his Puppy Love hit, well he is still laughing all the way to the bank, and what was it that you said you did for a living. Pick on someone that you know something about or better yet if you can't anything good then don't say anything at all, people with any intelligence are laughing at you..

77. To all the losers who spread hate and lies about David Archuleta:

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON YOU ALL. If you don’t like David Archuleta and/or his music, move on. Your offensive comments, bashing David’s religion, spreading rumors about his private sex life and insulting his intellect were truly uncalled for. Apparently, you know NOTHING about his religion, his private life or him as a person. Your remarks were very inappropriate, disrespectful, mendacious, hateful and ignorant. I hope that David never reads your comments. There is nothing constructive in them.

Contrary to all your nasty remarks, David, at the young age of 17, is a great vocalist, nice-looking, popular, intelligent (He is straight “A” student), humble, and respectful. The fact that the Governor of Utah, and both Mayors of Murray and Salt Lake City, participated in honoring David’s homecoming visit speaks for itself. David, being one of the top three finalists in American Idol, is a great accomplishment, one that most people could not achieve in their lifetime.

It sounds like those of you who made these comments about David are the real MORONS. Why do you all hate and have the need to offend someone who has done no wrong to you or anyone? Could it be that your own lives are so pathetic, that you have to put someone else down to feel better about yourselves? “PRETTY SAD” isn’t it?

78. I want to thank you people who are not LDS and are standing up for all the LDS people. I am LDS and i wasn't going to comment on any of these stupid off the wall comments about David and my church but I am going to. I honestly think some of you need to find out the truth before you comment on here,David in no way HAS to go on a mission yes alot of the LDS guys do choose to go on missions but if a person doesn't want to go on one thats ok also. Also our church does no practice polygamy thats why you hear of all these stupid people who have been kicked out of our church and have started their own church. I'm not trying to bash you guys i just think you need to get your facts straight. Our church is not a freaking cult get that outta your heads!!!Also David Archuleta might be shy and awkward on stage but have you ever thought he has freaking stage fright??I am so sick of people bashing David.A i mean in no way do i think he will be the American Idol,i think that honor goes to David Cook, but David.A is such a sweet, honest an genuine person and i am so proud he (and Brooke) are LDS and made it this far.

79. I can tell most of the people commenting know little to nothing about the mormon church, so before you go bashing someone else's religion please get your facts straight. David's answer was honest and from the point of view of someone on "the inside", well said. He is a kind and geniune person with an amazing voice, which for the competition he is in, is all that matters.

80. While David may actually be a great guy and all, and maybe he's not the brightest, but has good intentions, he is Mormon. This is established. Mormons are raised and taught to live a certain way, as people of every religion are. However Mormons claim to belong to a religion they blatantly defy, and perfectly fit the definition of a cult. I have the facts on Mormons, I have done the research, and am informed. Mormonism was founded by a man proven to be a liar, thief, con artist, and he was eventually killed for it. If you know the story of the origins of Mormonism, whether or not you are one, you must see the obvious lies rooted within it. There was even a war waged against early members of the following to try and exterminate the evil. Finally (though there is much more wrong with Mormonism), any group claiming to be founded in Christianity would never even consider elevating a man, let alone a very immoral man to the status of a god, especially as this is an obvious disregard for the first commandment in the Bible and such a group would know better than to add additional books to the Bible, even studying them as more holy, when the true book of God clearly states that those who alter or add to the Holy Word shall be condemned. But I speak simply my opinion. If you don't believe something I've said here, go ahead and research it, I welcome it. As for Archuleta, I do not think him evil or the such, merely repressed into a certain, narrow way of philosophical thought. Although I do not know him personally, it is likely that he has values ingrained into him that hold key differences from common values around the world, in all religions.

81.
I agree that David Archuleta is a great guy and has good intentions. However I believe David is SMARTER than most people give him credit for. His demeanor of unease, shyness and humility in the media, especially during interviews, may be misinterpreted by the public.

It’s very intimidating to be interviewed on public T.V. with 30 million people judging you. Let’s face it, no matter what David says; his statements will always be subject to public critique. As you have already witnessed in this website, some people have made pretty dumb remarks about David. I believe that with maturity and experience, David will overcome his shyness and improve his techniques in handling the media. After all, David is only 17 years old.

David is a great vocalist and performer, a straight-A student, a past winner of Star Search and very close (top 3 finalist) to winning the American Idol title (Congratulations David!). No “Joe Blow” dummy could achieve any of these, especially at such a young age.

I don’t measure someone’s success or intelligence by his/her demeanor or religion (in this case). I look at the person’s achievements. The end-result is what really counts.

82. I agree with you Lela, and I don't think that David is necessarily dumb. He does need to overcome his shyness and dicomfort in order to maintain and proceed in the entertainment industry.

83. Everybody is so hypocritical. People want to see good images of people and they want the world to change and stuff but here comes this innocent, sweet kid and everybody's against him. They all think he's fake. It doesn't make sense; if you want good in the world then stop going after the innocent people and go after the people who make this world bad. Everybody's against this kid because he's one in a million but then a bad person comes along and nobody says anything about it. America is a sad, sad place.

84. Who said anything about wanting to change the world? And who are you to assume that he is innocent? Do you know everything he's done in his life? I bet not, I bet you're just following the image he's created for himself, not bothering to critically analyze the situation.

85. Right on, TMZ, this kid is an absolute freak. I sincerely think he may be brainwashed and/or on drugs his parents sneak in his grape juice.
Why does every song he sing sound EXACTLY the same?

86. Firstly, if he hopes to become an Idol, he must mature, his age is irrelevant. One cannot survive in the public eye while maintaining integrity with the maturity he has shown. Second, his church does not preach the Gospel, as it skews the word to a meaning aside from that of the Bible. The "gospel" as defined by the Mormon church, is not the same gospel of Christianity.

87. Mission trip? Ditch the LDS cult. David sings well, but he is not a performer.

88. David Archuleta is only 17 and yet so many of you are expecting him to behave as though he is older. He is truly a humble, sweet and VERY talented young man. I am proud of all he has accomplished and know that he will make a wonderful American Idol. As for his serving a mission...he IS serving a mission for the church by setting such a wonderful example and by sharing the gospel with all he comes in contact with.
