LeBron Not a Cheap Ass After All?

Could LeBron James' whole $10 tip on an $800 meal incident be just a big misunderstanding?

The owner of the XO Prime Steaks, where the whole stingy scene went down, has issued the following statement:

For the record, XO would like to clear up a misunderstanding resulting from a story that appeared in the Cleveland Scene on May 7th...Upon completion of his meal, Mr. James paid his bill with a credit card. Our waiter mistakenly read the receipt, inferring that Mr. James had left him only a $10 tip. To clear up the misunderstanding, Mr. James arranged for an appropriate tip to be delivered to the restaurant for the waiter.

31. Well, being a server for many years, I can come to an understanding with this type of situation.

LeBron James, obviously, didn't know how to tip properly or just made a very rash mistake in judgment. He's part of a majority of people who will go to great dining restaurants who don't understand how the industry works. It's not unheard of for a server to ask a guest why the tip was so poor, especially, when he/she believes good service was given.

In this case, even if the service was bad, it was LeBron James' mistake to tip poorly because it ultimately results in bad PR with media and the corporations. XO exploited this fact for media coverage and to retain some lost capital.

32. Bottom line.... They don't tip... I've been waiting for 10 years.. It's not racist.. Just fact.. I have to deal with the s*** every night.. And they'll make every excuse in the book.. Bottom line.... Cheap and uneducated.

33.
jut love the above comment that he
" was bred " to be a basketball player;

BRED ? please.

in this particular case, he never even had a father around, ( SURPRISE ! )

it almost 1 out of 20,000 chance that a child will grow
up to ever make the professional ranks in ANY sport.

just like acting, music or any level of the entertainment
industry, 10% of the professionals make 90% of the money.

most who pursue a dream rarely EVER
" make it " nor do they even make a living.....

34. I'm starting to lose respect for LeBron. I think it's all going to his head. I work at a restaurant in the Akron Oh area and servers that have waited on him have only received on average a 9% tip! I find it hard to believe that every server that waits on him misreads the receipt!!

35. I go to college and I am a server. I don't think that anyone is saying he should have left an above normal tip but $10.00 on $800.00? Come on. 15% would have been $120.00. Also since you are so educated you should know how poor the economy is. People don't really have the option to look for another job If you don't feel that servers should be tipped don't go out to eat where their are servers. It's not a hustle. It's called etiquette. Its called having some class. It is pretty pathetic to pull up in a $400,000 car and than leave a little over 1% for a tip. By the way I get a lot of financial aid for school and I still have to work. When I finish my degree and I am working in my field I will still tip well and be polite to servers because my mother taught me how to be classy and have some manners. Obviously a lesson Lebron's mother never taught him.

36. If LeBron arranged for a cash tip, he did the server a favor. Anyone that has worked in the industry know exactly what I mean!

38. Story sounds a little shady, surely the server read the slip correctly, he would have been expecting an above average tip on a bill that large so he would have read it carefully.
